Two arms, two legs, a torso and head. Any finer details, go wild. The "humanoid" rule is just so we don't have races of hyper intelligent cows or walking mushrooms.

Okay, I ask because, well, these are more along the lines of "8 legs, manipulators (two pairs, one pair is for delicate work and is weak, the other is less dexterous but is stronger), body, and head"

You should probably classify what types of magic are allowed (Healing, elemental, etc) and whats the limit.

Alright, how about an element system?
Fire is countered by water, which in turn is stopped by earth, which is vulnerable to fire.

Or perhaps a more school-based system, where mages must train in a respective field first, and can't work other types of magic until they've had training.

Or, we could have a Warp-based system, like in Warhammer 40k. Mages need to put themselves through intense psychological training before they can perform even basic spells, as they must reach into a dark, vicious world, where monsters claw at ones mind in an attempt to send them crazy.

Or, a dust-based system. Magic in its purest form is a substance, which is harvested, refined and used for combat, but said substance is somewhat rare, so you don't have a lot of power with it.

Or we combine all four,

Nearly all mages would have to learn their skills at a school, some have magic in them that allow them to learn like healing magic while some can only wield magic items. Elemental magic would work in the water beats fire, earth beats air way but is rare so you can't have a massive elemental army and there is a dark vicious world filled with magic but very few people can enter it to train, many go insane but the 1% would lead armies and command nature itself (or whatever it would command)

I prefer using Opposing forces for elements, where Air and Earth counter eachother (like Water and Fire.)

Is reincarnation acceptable (like Pythagoreanism or Hinduism)? I just wanted to see if it is approved before I start on a nation sheet.

Are you talking about when someone dies, they are reborn depending on their previous lifetime?

Either that or something like the Myth of Er (from Plato).

I don't personally have a problem with that, as long as there is suitable delay and skill regression.

It's fine if you're blunt. In fact, I'd rather you were blunt and straight-talking rather than dancing about the issue.
In response to your request, I'm going to have to say no. Two legs only. I'm fine with weaker, vestigial arms, as long as they aren't overwhelming in combat, but I'd prefer your race to be more humanoid.

However, you can have your original race as a elite, less numerous species.

I can deal with a low population, so it's fine. I've sent you a PM with some stuff that I feel is important but also felt it wasn't appropriate to post here.

Well, usually in reincarnation (unless your name is Glorfindel), you don't have any memory of your prior life, so anyone who does gets reincarnated will have to start from square one (i.e. infant). I will only make it a small percentage that would remember. And they will have to go through an animal's life first.

Two more questions. Can we assume that the map represents the whole planet? Also, what is the rest of the solar system like? I am mostly asking this because astrology was important to many ancient religions (our planets bare the names of the Roman gods).

@Titanic: Can we create an origin for the Elves? I plan on having an Elf faction that is located on the southwestern continent. So how would the gods work? Would I just pick one of the "foreign ones" as my Elf nation's primary god (renaming him as I wish, but still referring to the same deity)? I was thinking about having 5 major deities (one for each of the Classical elements - Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, and Aether), where the main deity would be representing the Aether.

I exactly have to change the foreign gods a little, there were some gods that were suppose to have opposites but the thought slipped my mind when I was working. I guess you could count The Lord of the Beyond as Aether but I'm putting him as a lost one or a decreased god. I'll shoot you a pm tomorrow.

Edit: the gods represent many things, you could change their title a little, but I'll give you a pm with more specific information in 20-23 hours

Well, as long as there's no Assassin's Creed style bleeding effect where skills pass from one form to another, that's absolutely fine.

One: Yes
Two: Well, I was thinking of keeping it like the solar system real Earth is based in. Two planets before us, six planets after, with four gas giants. However, it is likely that different nations will view things different ways - there might be a star in such a position and with such a coloration that it looks like a planet, so the race names it after a god. Be as liberal as you like.
