When Taya left the building she had to blink against the sun. She didn't care enough about it to check the time on her phone, but judging from the light it was getting late. It was a slight kink in their plan, as they had hoped to leave early in the morning. Plans usually had kinks in them around their band.
She made her way over the parking lot to the van and smiled at Michael who seemed to be repairing something. It was a miracle the van was still going, a miracle they owed to Brandi's brother. Taya would rather not think about all the rusted parts that could, and would, break any time.
Climbing inside she had to maneuver past some bags and Stephen with his guitar. In the back of the van, at a spot that was of course almost impossible to reach, she found what she was looking for: Her favorite drumsticks lay on the luggage rack, among some random objects that had somehow found their way inside the van. They were her favorite drumsticks because they were the first drumsticks she had, not because they were the best. In fact, as far as drumsticks go they were actually kinda shitty, and she never used them for band rehearsals or concerts. However, they were her lucky charms, and as such they were indispensable. Besides, they did rather well if you just wanted to improvise a rhythm on random objects, which is what she was planning on doing.
She thought back to the previous tour. They had had a different bassist back then, but the overall feel was the same. Of course, back then, she was the new one. She had dropped in halfway through their tour, when their drummer had injured himself. She considered herself lucky that the drummer had decided to join a more promising band, as last time she had been nothing but a replacement. Now she was a full fledged member however, and she was going to prove it to the world. With a smile she left the van again and started practicing a few rather complicated drum riffs on the back of a bench.
