While I do agree on all of your points, I do think that the movie was impartially different because it was intended for american audiences, produced by american producers. It was meant to be a starting point for a "American" Doctor who series and everything...Sadly they didn't realize the reason why Doctor who became so popular was because it was Doctor who, not...whatever the hell that movie was. It wasn't just that obviously though.. ( the eight doctor is really awesome, but the way they made the regeneration happen with the doctor being shot made me angry)
The Doctor Who movie was made by Americans? *checks the Whology book to verify*
...Huh. Co-produced by Americans, at least. So I guess that's something.
Still, I really can't blame them for taking it in some different directions. Yes, the show
was popular... at one point in time, then it got cancelled. They were trying to avoid what the show was like (at least in its later years) in order to avoid what made it unpopular. Yes, it turned the movie into something very different from the rest of the show, but I liked it for what it was, at least. The way I see it, there's no reason to dislike something just because it's different. Ever. Judge something based on how well it turned out by itself, I always say.
Sometimes change can drastically improve a show. As for the regeneration, well, you knew they couldn't make the Doctor's death the climax of the story unlike usual since Eight was meant to be the star of that one, not Seven. Still, despite that, though, the regeneration was kind of the most memorable part for me - particularly because of the anesthetic screwing it up and leaving him dead for so long. When I saw how broken Eight was I just wanted to hug him and tell him "it'll be ok" for a good chunk of the movie. Something about that made him one of my favorites, though.
I really wish they'd clear up the whole "half-human" thing, though. Like I said, all the writers in the new series seem to be happily sweeping it under the rug and pretending it never happened - but the ambiguity is kind of maddening. @_@ Even if they choose to retcon the whole thing, I'd at least like one, quick line referencing that whole failed plotline and stating that that wasn't the case. Just... something.
Season 1 was a bit of a mess, but I liked it. Christopher Eccleston is one of my favorite doctor and so I went along happily. And for the first season since...a decade and a half it did really good. Also, doctor who was back and I was extremely giddy. Looking back at it now I still think it's a very good season overall.Though basically all seasons are good, it was quite better then a couple. Even if rose is the worst companion of the new series :D
Eccleston is still far from my favorite Doctor, but while I really disliked him at first, I will say he grew on me over the years. All the Doctors have
something to offer, at least.
And as for Rose, I for one think she's kind of underrated. I mean, "worst companion of the new series"? Well... maybe, but only because we've had so few to choose from so far (at least compared to how many there were in the Classics). Objectively, though, I really don't see what's so wrong with her. The biggest thing about her people seem to criticize is how she loved the Doctor and was so obsessed with him, but... I feel like any fangirl, myself included, would be no better than her in that regard. :I I mean I dunno about you, but I feel like any straight woman/homosexual man has no right to hate Rose for loving the Doctor - because anyone with any attraction to men would feel the same way.
Doctor who rambles are fun
I agree 100%.
I've been feeling like ranting about Doctor Who almost constantly the past few weeks (probably due to binging so much content) so it's nice to have an outlet for it all.
