In the distant past they called this place France, a country known for romance and vast open scenery, now a smoldering metropolis stretching nearly a thousand miles in diameter. Its streets bustled with commerce, "the planet's trading district" they called it. Aliens of all kinds now roamed the city's crowded streets, a world away from what it once was. Most of us considered innerspecies relations progress, a great leap forward for the open-mindedness of the human race, but as always there are those who disagree.

In the last week there were over a dozen embassy bombings planetwide, humans trying to send some sort of message, but those who had made earth their home weren't going to leave it without a fight.

Fantasy/Scifi war anyone? Nothing set in stone, any ideas please let me know.

Name: Kaspar Geilbrück
Appearance/race: Average height, broad-shouldered and bulky. His head is shaved regularly, revealing a pale and pitted cranium. Typically wears heavy canvas work pants around worn steel-toed boots, along with a dime-a-dozen white synthetic cotton tee. Seldom seen in public without his oversized nylon security services jacket, which has long since faded to gray and acquired a thorough coating of grime.
Age: 20
Brief history(optional): Kaspar grew up in the Mitwohnung sprawl on the eastern periphery of the Metro, where the gray concrete towers extended as far as you could see in any direction ( at least until they hit the perpetually and equally gray sky ). While he had all his basic needs provided for by the Planetary Administration, he could not escape the feeling that he would have preferred to live in a time when humans earned their own way and were masters of their own world. When a friend of a friend with similar ideas asked him to carry a package deep into the heart of the Metro, he gladly accepted the opportunity to do something of worth with his life. But with the events of the past week, he has been stranded far from home and outside his comfort zone.

Traits: Reserved but polite; Acquainted with violence; Carries himself with a pride that belies his apparent desperation.

I think this could be pretty interesting, especially if we explore the deteriorating situation/slide into war aspect of it rather than just jump to the explosions. I'm not sure how far-future you were thinking, but I got the sense of somewhere before the year 3000, where fantastic tech exists but isn't widely available on a backwater like earth ( humanity's own technological advancement immediately stagnated when it was exposed to other species' vastly superior knowledge ). I also imagined a future that isn't dystopian, but it isn't all flying cars and robot butlers either; My character pretty much only works if there are significant parts of the population whose lives are stable but fairly bleak/unfulfilling.

BTW I'm pretty new to this, so please feel free to point out if I make mistakes.

Ooh, I just happen to have futuristic French characters already out there. What do you know. =P

Name: Lothaire Voclain

Appearance/race: A French African with a boxy head but an otherwise small and wiry frame, short curly brown hair and grey eyes. He has a warm smile and gives off a cheerful aura. Because of how he was born he doesn't have a bellybutton.

Age: 24

Brief history: The son of scientists, is actually a clone of the real Lothaire who was killed in a machinery accident when he was a child. His parents used their knowledge and leverage in the scientific community to recreate their child, but soon found that the person they cloned didn't have the same personality as their lost son, who was a genius like they where. Instead, he has rather average intelligence and no head for science, growing up to work in a local butcher shop and becoming estranged from his parents because of the stress of the situation.

Traits: A outwardly playful goofball who hides some of his personal problems and old scars under a facade of whimsy and merriment. Kind and friendly, but tends to do more harm then good when he tries to help out and can easily guilt trip himself for messing up. He likes to daydream, and when no one else is around he's usually off in his own world. He can have a temper or become easily stressed out about certain things, and his bad moods tend to linger for a while.

Name: Jane Lowe
Nickname: "Lo"
Race: Human
Age: 21
Brief history: Jane, also referred to Lo, as a nickname in reference to her last name is a pilot for trading vehicles. She could be considered some modern-day mail(wo)man. However, she is not just a mail or cargo carrier for the volks or common folks of the metropolis, but specifically for the military. Her intelligence is based on what the military tells her. Her parents are average humans who are very conservative and slightly racist toward other aliens. With Lo being in the military, she has bad to quickly make peace with other races and understand the difference are positive benefits that can be used for unity and peaceful pursuits of the universe. Of course, her views do not change the views of her parents. These ideas have lead a drift between the family and her.

Lo is the only child. She suffers from the Only-Child Syndrome and demands attention. This serves her well in the military, as her hard head has pushed her into higher ranks with the military--she is able to fly a Pidgeon (military aircraft for cargo delivery) after all. That, and she's a woman! A human woman! ... Not that gender issues have not been an issue in this modern day (supposedly). She tends to distance herself from her parents, they want a traditional life for their daughter. At least, as traditional as possible. But, she saw that there were greater things for her, up the sky, traveling, seeing the rest of the universe with the military.

Traits: Outgoing and stubborn, average height, Lo is well liked around the local military base. She can be a moody, empathetic, emotional female, who on occasion, will spend time glancing at herself in the mirror--an object she tries to avoid due to religious preferences. Ah, yes, religion, with all due respect to all the races, she claims to be an "Eastern" Orthodox Christian. Although, her relations with the Church have been hurt due to her occupation, her Sunday mornings are spent participating in the Divine Liturgy. And of course, due to her short hair style--exemplifying her tomboy side, she wears a traditional headscarf to look a bit more traditional as opposed to her occupation.

So, quick question for the GM. This is a fantasy as well as a Sci-fi?
