<OOC>

<CS>

The League is a mature sci-fi and urban fantasy roleplay set in the year 2017. Its meant to be a "realistic" take on things such as Magic and Superheroes and explores the consequences of incredible power being invested in hands of select individuals while nations and powers jockey for control and society has to question everything it thought it knew about the world. The rp will center around the eponymous League of Heroes, made of metahumans, supernatural beings, and extraordinary regular humans. The heroes will have to develop relationships and learn to work together against all kinds of threats from superpowered gangsters to metahuman terrorists to supernatural creatures and many many more. If this rp gets enough players we can run multiple missions simultaneously.

Players can choose what kind of hero they will play in almost any way. Whether they have superpowers, magical abilities, or advanced proficiency and technical skill in any number of disciplines. Whether they were a visible hero or a mysterious vigilante. If they were a hero since the Awakening or are newly minted heroes. What kind of role they would play in the League, from field team member to investigator to scientist and more. If they have a secret identity and if their day job will affect the world at large, if they are a journalist, politician, or any number of professions. One of the main purposes of the rp is world-building, and I want to collaborate with players to create a wider world. The actions of the players in and out of costume will determine the success of the League and the course of events in the world. Eventually I plan to allow players to roleplay villains of any stripe and more neutral forces like government agents or mercenaries. It's an ambitious rp to say the least but I plan to see it through.

Now all I need to know is if anyone is interested.

I'm very interested, it's a very cool idea! How 'gritty' are you intending it to be?

Thank you for your interest. I don't intend for it to be as cynical as many comics are nowadays, but it's not going to be as light as the Silver Age. I think the Arkham series of video games is a good indicator of how 'gritty' I envision the rp being along with a comparable level of optimism to the Justice League Unlimited animated series. What kind of character do you have in mind for the rp?

This is a very intriguing concept.

Have you ever read a book titled 'Wearing the cape' MrDidact? It has a similar idea to what you've outlined, at least in broad strokes.

Thank you.

I have actually, the idea of a global empowering event came from that series along the "Shadow Ops" series. The idea of a secret supernatural world is from any number of urban fantasy books I've read with "The Dresden Files" being chief among them. And the concept of a unified and expansive organization of heroes (with more than seven members) is from one of my favorite animated series, the Justice League Unlimited.

Do you have any ideas to a potential character you would want to play?

Well I was wondering if I'd be able to play the 'shadowy protector of New York'?

If you enjoyed it then there's another novel out there called Soon I Will Be Invincible by Austin Grossman. Its worth a read if you ever see it.

I was thinking something quite nihilistic, thanks for the answer, that sounds like a good level of grit!

I might check it out thank you for the recommendation.

That character is basically this universe's Batman-type hero. I'm actually creating a small number of IC heroes who will basically be guides to all of the players and their characters. At some point I may release them to be played by a player but for now I want to hold on to that guy, who I am naming Pariah. I'm envisioning him to be the League's strategist and a mentor to some of the non-powered heroes.

But that certainly doesn't stop you from creating a similar character, perhaps a new non-superpowered hero who lives in the City and is one of Pariah's students? Would that work for you?

Perhaps, but I don't want it to go into Dark Age level of grit. At that point things just stop being fun in my opinion. In this world heroes can use guns and can kill if there's no other choice, but try to keep it toned down to reasonable levels. If a guy starts killing people left and right (using a chain gun) with no compunctions, he probably wouldn't be wanted in an organization that is trying to get the public's trust.

I also want there to be a diverse and well-rounded cast of characters. They shouldn't all be cynical Batman types and they shouldn't all be wide-eyed Captain Marvel-esque heroes. The goal is to portray the world of superheroes through many different mindsets and viewpoints. So right now we have two 'dark' heroes, but hopefully we get some 'light' ones as well.

I'm going to ask that your hero have some kind of superpowers. I don't want the League to be made entirely of uber-badass normal humans. Such individuals are extraordinary by dint of being able to compete in a super powered world and having too many of them would dilute their significance in my opinion. The majority of the League should be Metahumans, followed by Supernaturals, and Technological heroes are in the minority. All of them should have diverse powers, abilities, and skills. If you're a 'normal' hero, it doesn't mean you have to be a Batman-type gadget hero. You could be an Iron Man-esque power armor wearer or a Question-like Detective or any number of things. Metahumans and Supernaturals should be even more diverse. Having the same types of heroes would simply be uninteresting. Of course you can make your nihilistic hero and have them with no powers but he or she should still contribute something special and unique to the League dynamics.

Wow that's a lot of early feedback! Thank you! I never said I was going to have no powers haha. I fully intended him to be metahuman, I'll take note of keeping the gore down, I don't want to be a cheap rorschach knock off! Yeah I see that serial killers would generally be bad rep for the organisation.

Yeah, that works for me. In fact I would probably write him as the Nightwing to Pariah's Batman, a former sidekick who's 'graduated'.

You're welcome. But I am sorry, I do have a tendency to write a lot haha. I am also sorry for my preconceived notions about your character, just for some reason in roleplays the cynical types are almost aways also non-powered lol. And thank you for keeping it in mind, I don't want you to not have fun but I also want these characters to be played as 'realistically' as they could be. However, at some point in the future (if this takes off) I'll let players roleplay more 'grey' or even full-on 'dark' villain-types to contrast with the heroes.

I look forward to your ideas for a character!

I'm glad it works for you. That's actually an excellent idea and I look forward to roleplaying the Mentor/Student type relationship. Also keep in mind that no hero, powered or not should be awesome at everything. Pariah won't be as omni-competent as the comics Batman and is more like the DCAU or Dark Knight Batman. Zenith, the Superman type isn't as overpowered as Superman often is in the comics. Having someone be good at every thing you can think of is uninteresting. But I anticipate your ideas for your character!

At some point I'll start working on character sheets for the major NPC heroes to provide the basis for all your sheets and an OOC. But for now, I await at least two or three more hands on deck. But recruitment into this thread is pretty much Unlimited, so come one come all.

Good to hear dude. I've got a bare bones cs for my character already if you want to see it, just so you'll be able to see if it meshs well with your ideas. And if you need any help or ideas for other Npc's, heroes, or villains let me know, I've got a lot floating around the old grey matter.

This seems interesting to me. I would like to sign up.

The char i have is a hero named SilverWolf. With a few minor abilities and one more significant one. His strength, speed, awareness, and tactical insight would be somewhat higher than an average human (though not anywhere near a Superman type level) and his real super power would be foresight. Being able to see a few seconds into his own future at all times.

He is also very altruistic and idealistic, but tends to be socially inept much of the time.

Look forward to your feedback.

Sure, I'd love to see it actually. And I'll certainly keep that in mind, two heads are better than one after all. In fact all of this thread's members are free to come at me with their ideas about characters and world-building. This is a group thing after all.

That's actually a very interesting character and I like the premise. I'd have to see the character sheet (when I get around to making them) but I like the idea. The foresight idea is particularly interesting and doesn't seem overpowered at all. Although I do wonder how his codename fits his abilities haha. Ok, we need at least one or two more players, with unique ideas, to get started.

I forgot to mention this earlier but it bears mentioning now. No kid sidekicks, at least sidekicks who actually fight. Having an organization that endorses child endangerment probably wouldn't survive in any day and age haha. If your hero has any sidekicks or used to be a sidekick to a hero, they couldn't have actually started going on missions until they were at least eighteen. Or if their parents or guardians gave them explicit written permission to a hero to take their child onto missions and even then they had to be at least sixteen like in the US Military. Any younger sidekicks would only be training and performing support roles. All active duty heroes have to meet those age requirements but again I want diversity, ideally most heroes should be in their twenties or thirties. I don't want this to be one of those rps were teenagers are responsible for saving the world haha.

I'd also like to see some diversity with regards to race, culture, nationality, religion, gender and even sexuality. This shouldn't be too difficult since I'm aiming for nearly unlimited recruitment but I'm hoping to have a roleplay that isn't dominated by white heterosexual protestant males haha.

I'm definitely interested in this, and I have a character that would work perfectly in the realistic superhero world you're trying to create.

I'll be creeping this thread, can't wait to see where this goes.

I think we have enough to get going now, but there's always room for more. I'll have the OOC and Character Sheets done by either late tonight or early tomorrow morning.
