An Outsider A Glorious Failure

Volt nodded slowly at the two responses, finding Ryker's to be a tad optimistic for his usual taste, but it didn't mean he was wrong. Could just be further proof that Volt was one of the 'lone wolf types', at least in personality if not in practice. Clara had certainly thought so, citing Tommy's inability to connect fully with people as a reason in their break-up. Could the Lightning-Slinger put aside his own personal hang-ups to become a productive and helpful member of a team? Either which way, I reckon there's gonna be more than a few teething pains for this little League.

“I've worked with a partner a few times, Pariah and Zenith day tripping across the Atlantic and that sorta thing. Had a couple of episodes with Strix, that got a hella hairy. Had a partner at one point too, though truth be told that was one'a the biggest mistakes of a mistake ridden career." There was an awkward pause as his mind cast back to his experiences with Maggie, regret and anger building within him at the memories, at his failure to help her and her betrayal and attempted murder of Clara. He forged on quickly, as if he had never stopped speaking "Never with a team though, not that I ain't getting courted often. My point being that I might end up being one of those solo players you're worried about, and if that's the case then, well. . . sorry. . . in advance." he shrugged with a good natured grin. Always good to get your sorrys in quick he'd found.

"So on the other side of that coin, what are you both hoping to get from joining the league?"

"Backup when I need it," Sonja said seriously. "I've got a pretty full plate back home of bad guys. Someone once said you measure a woman by her enemies, so I must be doing something right." She shrugged. "There's a few other superheroes in St. Louis. I'm not on speaking terms with one of them," she said with a grimace as she recalled her ugly falling-out with Red Scorpion. "The others are okay, but working with them is tough. They're either busy with their own caseload and agendas or they're not up for the kind of thing I need help with. Not to say they're bad at what they do, but the magical world isn't for everyone. But the talent pool we've got here," she said with a wave that generally encompassed the fortress. "With help from them, I feel confident I can handle the usual and unusual threats."

"Besides, let's not kid ourselves, it's good for publicity. Like when people come back from playing on the Olympic team." She took a delicate sip of her vodka tonic, and looked at her two companions. "But that's secondary. We can do a lot of good."
