Name of nation
Former Republic of Harsoin, Now the divided House Verdian and New Igrod Empire. (current civil war)
Home world
Asmol
-If there is any one word to describe the history of Asmol it would be, carnivorous. The trees, the insects, the animal life.. all carnivores. Without a Igrod guide, you could get lost in many of the jungles that dot the worlds and get consumed by the beauty that they share with the less harmful jungles of earth. With giant plants that resemble venus fly traps that just consume a horse size creatures to tiny insects with poison strong enough to kill an elephant in a matter of minutes. The Igrod grew up here and through this harsh, dog eat dog world, they gained intelligence to become survivors and eventually thier bodies began to adapt void energies to further stave off these dangers.
Nations Holdings
32 full terraformed/open colony worlds
14 enclosed colonies (Normally 50,000+ people but some of the bigger have easily surpassed the 1 mil.)
8 pioneer colonies (usually 200-1,000 personel)
roughly 80 Space stations (including military orbital shipyards, most stations contain anywhere between 250 to 1500+ personel)
Unknown number of single gun defense posts (n average a single, unmanned satillite not even as big as hubble space telescope with a battery and light energy weapon. although a decent number is high end larger stations but these are normally around colony worlds.) and unmanned sensor stations (around the same size) as both sides mass produces and sends them off. usually when one gets destroyed, three more takes its place to "shore up defenses"
Species
Igrod;
-tall humanoid beings that average 6'5 to 7ft in height.
-all have black hair with bright yellow eyes.
-Most Igrod have a cream to tan colored skin though some with brighter or much darker tones aren't uncommon.
-Sometimes prisoners are recorded having their hair shaved (similar to modern earth terrorists beheading) to show how serious they are.
-Igrod are highly resistance to psionic powers but are unable to utilize the powers. There are VERY few exceptions. can count on a hand.
-Igrod have no magic powers whatsoever. they have never encountered such a thing.
-Igrod are avid void power users, with most training to use a natural affinity for it from extremely young ages.
Description of government
In Igrod society, the strongest is always the "Shar'Khan", a president and commander of the military equivalent. When an opponent challenges the current head of state, the two enter a special ring and have a "right of rule" fight.. usually to the death.
With that said, most of Igrod society was in line with a republic, with "senate" representatives elected on each planet for most positions. Those include Planetary Governors, System lords and Regional senators that represent those systems and regions to the federal government proper.
With the break down of the senate and mass confusion regarding the most recent Shar'Khans' death, outcries have led to a massive split in the nation. Both sides still resemble the unified government of the republic.
No clear territory has been declared as each group believes their claim is for the entire nation.
Description of military
The Igrod are heavy users of the 'Void powers' giving them an edge in combat as they do not usually require weapons of any sort. Battles are usually fought by fist or energy combat. There are some weapons like larger caliber projectile rifles that have the only chance of penetrating higher end Igrods void energy defenses and anti-armor missiles for dealing with Igrod tanks and gunships.
As Igrod can for the most part fly, vehicular transportation is exceedingly rare aside from drop ships bringing troops from orbital warships.
There are a large number of "Spider tanks" that have been in service in huge numbers, using the control system that smaller ships use, allowing for large numbers. The tanks sport a 92mm auto-loading cannon as well as two 8.5mm machine guns to give it close in protection. These tanks have potent shielding against void energies but are in no way immune to the power of the void.
The other vehicles employed are usually command and control vehicles or hostile environment surveyors.
Gunships are the only other aircraft, aside from space fighters, that operate in atmosphere. They are organic in design and are extremely maneuverable but do not carry massive ordinance. These operate a 37mm auto cannon "Pulse gun" and a smaller HE rocket pod. These usually fly in, unload their rockets on a designated target then patrol for a while, attempting to pick off anyone out in the open.
The space forces are an entirely different matter. Countless ships have been made on both sides, ranging from mammoth battleships to hastily built missile boats. There are hundreds of variations of every class as each world and each shipyard modifies load outs for the coming battle at that time. As the war rages on, no real record of production (or losses) has been kept as shipyards work almost 24/7 to build craft. 'Quite a few warships are operated by a extremely small crew who uses a very potent command system that enables ship wide operation at high efficiency, as if people were aboard. the only way the nation could field the numbers it has. (Battleships and cruisers are exceptions. they are fully crewed with thousands of servicemen/women.)
The common ships seen are;
Boats
The basic "warships" that operate along the space-lanes and engage in close combat with each other. Mostly used as patrol ships or swarmers for large engagements. These may possibly number in the thousands at the very least but the term is very loose in description. Many of these "boats" are light enough to be considered yachts for some nations. A 40m long ship that consists of five crew, an spinal rail gun and an engine. to 150m long craft with many more souls residing, carrying anything from close in flak cannons to anti-ship missiles.
Battle cruisers
These are quite numerous as well and most are relics from the glory days of the Republic. Each was built with one thing in mind: Flexibility. These vessels were usually 500-600m in length and carried a generic anti-everything load out. Granted this does make not make them strong in any category, it does mean they aren't particularly weak either. The only downside to these is their age. most have been updated constantly to upgrade weapons and armor but its to that point of "you can only upgrade so far until you have to replace" and they are at that point.
Destroyers
Fast, agile, and armed to the teeth. These craft are more or less the mainstay of both factions navy's. They operate spinal energy/kinetic weaponry. and large turrets alike. Smaller guns help for anti strike craft and missile duties as well as their own launchers for missiles. most of these carry a small payload of single seat fighters of various configurations to engage the opposing forces. Most of these range between 300-450m in length and are the only ships that both sides would consider "uniform production models"
Cruisers
Although they are much stronger than the destroyers in both armor and armaments and usually in speed due to a larger drive, they are massive resource hogs and are usually used to support orbital landing forces. They usually operate large caliber turrets and have internal missile bays. Most have large compliments of infantry and hangars for launching larger swarms of fighters or drop ships which gives many the impression that these are carriers/siege ships. They can operate in fleet combat and do it well but the loss of one is usually a big deal for the ones who destroy it.
Battleships
These warships are few in number but a imposing force on the battlefield. The smallest titled battleship is 830m in length. They have huge engines, extremely heavy armor and some of the biggest kinetic guns Igrods have ever made. These ships operate as artillery for the onset of an engagement. Smaller boats and destroyers will mass near these while they fire cannons in excess of 800mm across the field of battle. These slugs hit with insane force and usually one to two hits are enough to destroy any igrod vessel, including another battleship but these weapons have a long reload time and usually the rounds can be avoided at such distance. There have been accounts of battles lasting days as battleships just lob shells at each other, with the smaller ships never even firing a shot. One side would run low on ammunition and just retreat to fight another day. A five day battle without a winner or any losses is extremely common when battleships are involved.
They do carry large energy weapons and large fighter bays so with them being lethal at all ranges is clear so adding that to the ships escort makes these ships a hard foe on the field. Luckily these ships take so long to produce and are ten times the resource hogs of a cruiser.. if these were to ever be mass produced, well...
History
The early culture of Asmol is nearly identical to the state we see today. Early proto-Igrod tribes just learning basic void energies would force their way into a 'tribe leader' of sorts, guiding his family, clan or groups to better hunting grounds to their medieval ages where armor clad Igrod would storm a fortification only to meet enemies who have learned power of the flame to ignite the hopes of others.
Around a late "pre-warp" era, the Igrod began to settle down to an extent. with farming well under their belt and industry in orbiting facilities as well as being situated on the home systems largest asteroid belt. They had a firm grip on their planet and were stretching to snag the rest. Time continued to slowly pass by though as things seemed to stall, most attribute this "slow age" to comforts of economic strength.. the poor unable to really afford anything would join the military or stay in the slums and ghettos. More stable families would live average lives and high wealth would lead the way.
This world was ruled with laws and peaceful elections, even the Shar'Khan was elected at this point until one day, "everything just went to shit" (-An actual quote from a leader of that time.) and a mass civil war ensued, ending near a billion lives. This massive shift was caused by a low class ghetto dweller who had more void power than the highest one in the military. This mans actions ended with his death but it caused those lines between economic stances to shift, where the strong were wealthy.. this led to modern ideology where the strongest run the military and the strongest are usually those elected to represent the weak.
After the civil war ended with that new ideology set in stone, the nation grew and science began to flourish. Drives based off of void powers became prevalent and the nation began its foray into the heavens themselves. Modern times have been quiet and progressive up until three years ago when the second civil war began. No one really remembers what exactly sparked it but today people from both sides still argue and demand the other step down. Gunships rush overhead of many cities, on their way to a battlefield not far off. Everything is government controlled at this point, with very few colonies spared from the conflict.
With no end in sight, many Igrod flee the nation to seek fame and fortune, peace, or just to find a place in the universe. While others look at their factions flag and become emboldened to the point of near fanaticism. There's no real way to describe the nation other than a term used for their world, Carnivorous. Leaders hearts set on consuming their ultimate goal; Being strongest.
