I'd never actually seen the Macross opening. I have to admit that it doesn't do it for me like the Robotech fanfare does :P

The Robotech one is a lot more orchestral and sweeping, and the Macross one is kind of cheesy... but I do love the Firebomber cover of the Macross theme and the visual editing in that anthology video.
I'd have to say on the whole though, that Macross's music is better than Robotechs (vocal music I mean!) Though some of the stuff from the New Generation isn't too bad... Minmay's songs are pretty terrible though >.<;;

EDIT: also, the Shadow Chronicles version of the fanfare is pretty good too!

I'm with you on minmay's songs XD Probably my least favourite bits of Robotech (Which I should probably start watching again, now this is getting started.)

My friends and I have been watching/snarking over the original Gundam series lately, and the Macross theme reminds me of that show's opening - somewhat bizarre and extremely cheesy XD

I dunno, cheesy as it is, I still find it better than most of the jpop we get for modern mecha anime (and anime in general). I still like the new stuff quite a bit, but they don't beat the oldies, at least in my opinion.

I hear ya; every OP nowadays has something like "...Fighting to protect the ones we love, with fistfuls of burning passion; blah, blah, blah, something about destiny; -insert bad English here-..."

I always kind of felt that the ending of Macross Zero was result of sreally still likeof Kawamori writing himself into a corner. The message was kind of anti-war, so I guess a massive battle was a bit contradictory. And it also had to fit into the time line before the original Macross, so I suppose it would have to be a bit vague.
Some of the events are explained a bit more in Macross Frontier. I do really like Zero though.

Oh, I had better ask before I forget. Is it Selachi or Selachai? The hider says one thing, but it's spelled the latter way almost everywhere else and I just wanted to be surely sure.

Ah, poor old 0079 - It had a great story, and was literally a trend-setter as the first real robot anime. But the animation was done on the cheap, and a lot of it was farmed out, so it has some utterly awful moments in it, and the music and sound effects are cringe-worthy. The movie compilations are a bit better, but it hasn't stood the test of time very well, sadly. But at least it had a lot of sequels in the same universe that patched things up nicely.

I probably meant to spell it the latter way everywhere, but since I was rushing a bit when I did the hiders, I likely mis-spelt it. I'll edit it now, since I've got to add Minder's character to the list.

I still have to admit, some of the modern jpop OP's we get are pretty damn catchy, Attack on Titan, Sword Art Online, even Valvrave's to an extent (the rest of the anime is bloody awesome though, the story's a bit bland (at least in my opinion) but the music and battle sequences are just breath-taking).

What's the news on getting the IC going? I've been researching Macross and Robotech to prepare for this, so I'm getting more excited by the minute! ;D

I've been out all day acquiring goods and comestibles for the exchange of income, and being wind-blown by British winter weather. However, I should be able to work something up later this eve.

Mutton, you're welcome to join in - I'm not sure if we're expecting any more people to pop up now or not, so that's fine. I'll cap it after you and the other two or so folks I think I'm waiting on have posted characters though.

I can sympathize with the weather part! I was out walking to and from a doctor's appointment most of yesterday and it was noticeably below freezing with a horrid wind chill if you were unfortunate enough to walk through the shade or a wind tunnel. I couldn't feel my throat and my eyes watered whenever a gust started blowing.

The first IC post is up! Mostly it's a bit of scene setting, but I've tagged all of your characters locations so we can meet easily. I hope nobody minds too much that I've placed you all in suspiciously convenient locations, but it's just easier this way, and everyone gets a chance to chat, before we have to launch into a (hopefully quick!) battle. Post away, my beauties!

Also, canon characters, woo!
