~Character organization thread, courtesy of Kidd~ Repost your character sheet here once you've been accepted

A common question posed by skeptics in the supernatural is this: "If strange creatures exist, then how come one hasn't revealed itself to us yet?"

But mythical creatures of all sorts survive in this world, thanks to a principle- The Suspension of Disbelief -that allows them to walk among humans unnoticed. This principle was born from the humans' unwillingness to accept what seems strange and otherworldly as true. However, Disbelief is not all-powerful- show a human proof of something so they absolutely cannot deny it as real, and Disbelief will be shattered for that person for good. Some mythical races wish to push Disbelief and make themselves a part of the human world, while others want to remain concealed in fear of persecution. This causes much tension among the races, although it has always stopped short of all-out war. That is, until now. The world is about to experience a change that will determine the fate of Disbelief forever, and you're going to help.

One of the catches for this RP is that while I'm starting with a basic set of races to choose from, I'm also accepting other races to be added to the story by RP'ers which can then be played by other people joining. I'm hoping this will result in a fun, large canon, eventually. There are three different levels of mythicals, categorized by how strongly Disbelief effects them:

Current Higher Power Characters...

BattleShovel's Drake Bacardo the Dragon

Current Urban Legend Characters...

MonsieurShade's Jacque La Croix the Wendigo

Saarebas's Sithis 'Seth' Nocturne the Fearling

Lesley Drakken's Roger Faulkner the Skinwalker

Noyuri's Ireane the Siren/Skinwalker

Current Augmented Characters...

Kidd's Lillah Lawson the Paladin

______

Thanks MonsieurShade for this great explanation for the groups, refer to this if unsure while submitting a race:

MonsieurShade said It depends a good deal on the species in question. Can your creature be considered a cryptid and/or a creature that is popular among tales of a certain region or tribe? If so then it can be considered an urban legend [i.e. Were-creatures, skin walkers, sasquatches, yetis, vampires*, or, wendigos] if it's a creature that is frequently depicted as a bastion for some cultures due to it's incredible powers, strength, cunning, or prowess, something that would be regularly prayed to or depicted on or in say, ships, armor/clothing, fantasy literature, or weapons, then it can be considered a higher power creature [i.e. Dragons, demons, angels, djinns*, spirits*, or minotaurs.], if its a human that boasts superhuman abilities through either magical or technological augmentation to the body, then it's an augmented human [i.e. paladins/shades* or humans with cybernetic augmentations to the body]. As kidd said earlier, you can also create your own race so long as you can make it balanced and justify which category you've placed it in.

____

You can also play as a normal human if you want, but it might be kind of boring until Disbelief starts breaking down:

RULES

Nothing not already mentioned; I except people to exercise common sense, this is a pretty good community. No god-modding, characters must be suited to the RP, ect. Also, I like to see well thought-out, well developed characters. We can start when five people have joined.

Mind if I join in as a Wendigo? I've never really had much occasion to rp as one, and this provides the perfect chance.

Race name: Wendigo
Short blurb about them: An ancient race primarily rooted in native american folklore, there are many myths as to how they've come into this world. Some say a person becomes a wendigo after consuming the flesh of a human being, others state the transformation occurs after a ritual, while other groups claim that a bite from a wendigo inflicts a curse that transforms the victim. While the true origin of the species remains a mystery, the fact of the matter is that they are very much a real thing, and they do prey upon human beings.
Life spans vary between individuals, however 300 is considered extremely old
This species boasts a rather unique ability: They are able to maintain a youthful appearance (between the 16-30 year age bracket) by almost exclusively consuming people within the aforementioned bracket
Over all this species could be considered "neutral-evil" as their main goal is simply to survive, even if it means murder. That being said, they will not simply go on mass killing sprees, rather they prefer to snatch people that would not be missed by society, such as the homeless or drug dealers.
Why they fit in this category: They originally started out as folk lore told amongst native american tribes, pop culture and the explosion of the technological industry has made them more popular due to alleged sighting videos and stories posted on the web.
Do they (as a whole) wish to reveal themselves: Not at all. The last thing they'd want is their food (read: humans) to know that they aren't at the top of the food chain.

Working on a werewolf: though in the pack, what's a guardian's job? I assume a hunter hunts, but do they prey on people or animals?

Actually, now I'm debating submitting vampires as a race, haha. It'll give the wendigos some competition.

Edit: Fuck, now I kinda wanna make a psychic. xD So many choices. I'll need a moment.

Sort of like a baby sitter, or a non-proactive warrior. The later thing will depend on your character's morality but generally werewolves aren't malevolent towards people.

Actually. I have an augmented human idea:

Augment: Paladin / Shade

Short blurb about it: A paladin is a human being who has been reincarnated from a previous life of sin against humanity. Paladins (in general) believe they’re reincarnated in order to right the wrongs of the past, and they use their power to protect others. That power manifests itself in two ways: 1) the paladin is in peak human condition. They rival Olympic gold medalists in strength, speed, and agility and they’re exceptionally healthy. 2) Many paladins—though not all—have a superhuman ability in addition. This could be as simple as having super strength as opposed to peak human strength or as powerful as telekinesis.

Some, of course, choose to use that power to continue their evil. When they do so, these beings are called shades. Shades (in general) believe that they’re reincarnated not to protect humanity, but to continue punishing it. This is backed by the fact that should a shade continue his evil, he is reincarnated yet again whereas the cycle will end for paladins who do good. Paladins generally believe that this means there is a metaphysical life-after-death, and it’s reserved for those who have redeemed themselves; shades tend to be more doubtful about the afterlife and embrace life as they know it.

Many paladins and shades—though mostly paladins—tend to deal with psychological issues that manifest as depression and insomnia. Typically, they learn of their past lives through dreams. However, it’s seen as strength to simply know your past, to remember it. At the other end of the spectrum of inner strength, it’s seen as a weakness to not be able to recall the past at all.

Do they (as a whole) wish to reveal themselves: Typically no, but it varies just as much as the human condition

Haha, nah. That's just an old idea I've had for a while so I had plenty of time to develop it. The short blurb was just copied and pasted from stuff I've already written, haha

Name: Lillah Lawson

Gender: Female

Age: 18

Paladin or shade: Paladin

Power: None

Appearance: She has a straight, boyish figure and a short haircut to match. Although lean, she's muscular as well: her limbs are toned and the beginnings of abs sit at her mid drift. However, she doesn't really go out of her way to show off her rectangle-esque physique, save for her arms since--when she's not wearing a coat or sweatshirt--she prefers tank tops and other sleeveless tops. Under said tops, she typically wears a sports bra over average sized breasts. Her skin is dark olive in complexion and her eyes a light, exotic brown. Her hair is dark brown, as well, and stops just short of the bottom of her ears. She has a long-ish face, high cheek bones, and a sharp nose. She stands at 5'6" and weighs in at about 120 lbs of angst.

Personality: Lillah is the loner type: she's silently broody and keeps to herself. She's angry by default and isn't very patient with people--but has developed the self-control to deal with them despite. Her sense of humor is lacking and she'll roll her eyes before she laughs. She's a person who's hard to get to know and doesn't show much interest in getting to know others either. Despite these negative qualities, she tries to be a better person and will grudgingly land a hand where ever it's needed. She's brave, but not stupid, and very independent. She believes she knows how to take care of herself, and therefore has trouble accepting help from others. Once one does get to know her, they’ll find that she’s extremely loyal and protective. She’ll put a friend before herself every time, and might even get caught smiling every now and again.

Do they want to reveal themselves: No, but she will if it means protecting someone.

Name: Alexander Gildone
Gender: Male
Age: 21
Appearance (Description or Picture)::
Personality: cinical and very sarcastic and times, he seems to not take life seriously.
Bio: All his life he has heard people talk about the supernatural and about the strange beings that walk around looking like humans. He doesn't believe a word of it, thinking that it is nothing but superstition and old wives tales. What he doesn't know is his family has been known to attact these type of creatures to them, because they were all psychics. His parents have kept this from him since he was born, but they did notice that even though he was born as a normal human with no pychic powers he still has the family's symbol, which was a scar in the shape of a spiral on the palm of his left hand. This scar was a way for those of supernatural origin to know what family they are. His parents are harder on him than his siblings because he was born without powers, so he is very rebelious of his parents because from his perspective they have no reason to be hard on him.

Let ze hunt commence~

Name: Jacque La Croix
Gender: Male
Age: 32 (appears 17)

Appearance (Description or Picture):: His human form - As a wendigo
When in his human form he stands at approximately 5'11" and weighs about 61kilograms and as a wendigo he stands at roughly 7'1" and weighs around 128 kilograms

Personality: Jacque has a somewhat cynical outlook on life, he can be crude, blunt, and rather pessimistic, although the extent of these qualities is unknown due to his usually reserved nature. Upon transforming, preparing to transform, or on the hunt, Jacque's personality changes as much as his appearance, he becomes a sadistic, taunting being that enjoys stalking and playing with his victims before consuming them, much like how a cat plays with its prey. Strangely enough this side of him enjoys its games so much that if a human manages to best him, he'll allow them to leave (granted he'll strike them over the head to knock them out, steal their wallets and leave them at hospital, claiming that he'd found them after what he assumed was a mugging).

Do they wish to reveal themselves (unlikely): Not at all.

Ugh, forgot to mention this about wendigos earlier, they're known to be extremely quick and a visit from a transformed wendigo is preceded by an extremely heavy stench that smells like copper.
