[Matt & Kate, using Irene to post for him]
9:30pm
"Hey Kate, I'm back!" Matt exclaims cheerfully, waving from across the room to Kate, who is sitting with her back turned and working on something unidentifiable from where Matt was standing. "Hey Matt!" Kate jumps to her feet, brandishing whatever she was working on, which turned out to be a form of armor. Using computer parts, cables, and some duct tape, she had fashioned bracers and shin guards.
"What do you think of this? I figured I needed some armor as well, and this uses less duct tape than your method." She says, pointing to Matt's armor, which used nearly a full roll of duct tape on its own.
"Yeah, I might have been a little generous with the duct tape, but this stuff ended up saving my life, so it didn't go to waste at least." Matt raps his armor affectionately. "I see you've been busy, is that metal beneath the wires?" Matt asks.
"Yup! There are strips of metal along with the layers of tape and wires in it. You know, I was just about to head out to look for you after I finished this actually... I was getting worried since you were taking a while to come back." She says, momentarily pensive.
Matt realizes she had no way of knowing if he was okay in the time he was gone. Now that he thought about it, he had also taken a nap in the health room. "Sorry to worry you, I had holed up in the health room to take a break. The cots in there are pretty comfortable. Oh! That reminds me, I grabbed most of the useful-looking medical supplies and some snacks from in there." He slips off his backpack and unzips it, pulling out his loot.
"Ooh nice..." Kate says as she examines the stuff, reading the labels of the various pill bottles and miscellaneous supplies.
"Here let's split it, that way even if one of us get's separated we'll still be able to treat ourselves." Matt separates the supplies into two piles, and each pack half into their bag.
"Thanks!" Kate says as she re-zips her bag. "Hey, can I have one of your knives? I want to upgrade your weapon, and you have knives to spare. "
"Sure thing, here." Matt hands a knife to Kate. She recoils since it was the one covered in (dried) blood.
"Oh c'mon! Give me the other knife!"
Matt laughs and givers her the other knife, which Kate attaches securely to her makeshift bo staff. She had already ripped the stand part off of the bottom of the stand, and places the hilt of the knife inside, where it fit perfectly. She then wraps wires around the base of the knife to prevent it from slipping out, and tapes the wires down.
"Now /that/ is going to last you a while." Matt notes in admiration. Kate smiles happily and gives it a whirl, her expression fierce.
The media center doors near the cafeteria open, admitting a tired-looking Irene. Matt raises his weapon in greeting. Hearing her question, Matt answers, "He made it in the drama shop--it's by the drama room."
((Added with Matt's permission))
"You have keys right? Let's go eat in the cafeteria, I'm hungry." whispers Kate as she taps Matt's shoulder.
"Yeah, got 'em here. I could go for some real food too." Matt replies. They walk out the media center doors and enter the cafeteria unhindered, noting the new bodies scattered about the area on the way. Where is she getting those??
((This happens before Travis and Adam leave for the cafeteria))
While Matt unlocks the cafeteria door, Kate watches his back for zombies. He finally finds the right key and pulls open the door. The two of them slip inside before re-locking the door. They eat and drink their fill, as well as use the bathroom in the back of the kitchen.
"Hey Kate, give me a hand in collecting up these supplies?"
"Sure."
Matt wheels over an empty janitor's cart that they fill with a little bit of everything. Essentials such as water, meat, bread, and snacks all go in, as well as bleach, paper towel, and weapons. The cart all prepped, Matt wheels it into the office, then shuts and locks the door. "This is a pretty secure place, and we now have the stuff to last us a while. We can also safely catch up on sleep in here. Do you want first watch or shall I take it?"
"I'll take it." Kate replies. Matt nods gratefully and sits down in the chair by the desk, too tired to care about how uncomfortable it was. "Wake me up in 4 hours okay?
"If I don't fall asleep by then, I will. Kate says jokingly. Matt shoots her a serious look and she laughs. "Go ahead and sleep, I'm keeping watch." She says more seriously. Matt sighs and relaxes into the chair, falling asleep in moments.
