Song Of The Void
_______

Having finally finished her job for the day, Runia was returning to her cottage at the forest's edge. As usual, it was a most ordinary walk, uninterrupted by anything. When she arrived, however, she gasped in shock and outrage. Her door was thrown off of its hinges, maybe five feet away from the frame, and the windows were shattered. It had taken an exorbitant amount of money to get enough glass to put over them, and it now lay broken on the ground. Running inside, she surveyed the mess her usually impeccably-kept cottage had become. Furniture knocked over, bed twisted to the side, burn marks on the floor, and one very conspicuous missing object. The stilettos that hung over the mantle were gone. She began looking furiously around the small, two-room cottage, but could find no marks of them. At length, she departed from the half-deconstructed cottage and returned to the village.

No dice. Every person she asked could say nothing about her cottage. She cursed herself for living in such solitude. But why would somebody destroy my home like that? she wondered, and why take the daggers? No answers were forthcoming. She trekked back to her cottage at the end of the day, tired, dirty, disheveled and disappointed. Righting the bed, she threw herself upon it, fully clothed, and stewed angrily for a few minutes before succumbing to sleep.
______
Runia was awakened by a strange sound from very close by. It sounded almost like... "A person." she finished aloud in a very quiet whisper. The sound came again and, mustering up her courage, she sat up quickly and spoke in a loud voice, "Who's there? Why are you in my house?" The noise stopped for a moment.

Rubix heard someone entering the house, and so he quickly smashed the last window that he could and slipped out the back door. He then slipped his beating-sticks-of-justice into the specially tailored pockets in his sleeves and sauntered off into the village, once or twice seeing the young woman who's life he had destroyed passing through the village with rage.

This brought a smile to his face. A job well done, he thought flipping one of the stilettos in the air and catching it. He had taken some of her money too, and with it bought some of the best beef stew he had ever eaten. But it was getting late, and Rubix figured that it was about time to get back to his client.

"Well?" The fat man asked, sitting in his rocking chair.

"Her shit has been thoroughly wrecked," Rubix replied, gesturing to the stilettos for proof that he was there.

"Thank you, that bitch'll regret ever turning me down, here's your pay." Realizing the implications of what the man was saying, Rubix waited until the money was in his hands before dropping a quick, "Thank you," and ripping the man across the face with one of his rods.

"Sick, sick man," Rubix said over his shoulder before heading back into town. If he was going to return what was stolen, it would be wiser to do it after the girl had had some time to cool off any maybe even fall asleep.
It was night now, and Rubix casually walked up to the girl's door in an attempt to open it. Locked. At least she learned something from this, Rubix thought as he slipped through one if the broken windows. Heading into the girl's bedroom, Rubix stepped on a loose floorboard (one that he himself had loosened earlier that day) and created a loud, resonating creak. The girl soon made it known that she knew that Rubix was there. Regardless, he waltzed into her room with a mere, "Sorry about the house, there was a misunderstanding," before dropping the knives and a sack of money that he figured should be enough to pay for the repairs. He then began to leave, as casually as he had walked in.
