Yes but we're saying you shouldn't need opinions because you should know exactly what YOU want to see and do with your character.

There's also the possibility that he could WANT to do all of the ideas but also be fishing for a group consensus on which one THEY'D like to see. Who's going to be reading the story arc? Us. Why join an RP if it's less collaborative and more "GO WRITE YOUR OWN LITTLE FANFICTION WITH NO INPUT FROM ANYONE ELSE!"? I could go write a Green Arrow story on Microsoft Word (If I had a laptop) any day of the week, this is a shared universe of characters and more importantly, writers. I'm not in this solely to write Ollie or Grayson or Beast Boy or any of that shit, I'm here to have a fun interactive experience with my fellow writers and their characters, and hopefully give and receive criticism, praise, and advice so I can grow into a better writer and possibly help others do the same, ya dig?

I'm mostly just irritated that the only CS he's posted thus far was a 10% WIP that he quickly abandoned and all his other posting is asking us what he should play. I'm not a GM, though, so who cares?

I'd like to argue the difference between being collaborative within the IC and constructing a character though. It's one thing to ask, how would you like to see my story go, and another to ask how should I make my character.

If I have to give input to someone as to how to make their character, why the frick am I not just making that character for myself? Whereas in the spirit of working towards collaborative interaction, I understand asking for input towards stories and arcs.

The way I read it he wasn't saying "build my character for me." but rather "Here are my ideas if you'd rather see one more than the other might as well say so." if I'm misreading the situation and he's actually crying for help during character creation, then yeah he should probably reconsider his character selection or whatever.

Some people can just make characters and do what they want with them with no regard to player opinion outside of "Does my sheet or history or whatever interfere with yours and if so how can we rectify it?" others just like to gather popular opinion on which of their ideas would be the most appreciated and go for it; now I'm not saying one should be afraid to do something others might not like, some of my best experiences have been when another writer told me they'd hated my idea at first and ended up coming around to it because of how well I wrote it, but why not, in an RP like this where you're surrounded by experience and knowledge and all that, ask for opinions so you don't end up ostracized because you don't ship Tony Stark with Captain America or something?

In case you can't tell midway through that I had no idea where I was going and just sort of gave up.

I hate this shit as much as Sherlock/Watson in the BBC Series. Why can't two men have a close, bonded relationship without romantic attachments being forced to be involved? Sherlock is worse than Avengers because Moffat is a shitty, fanbaiting, half-assed writer so keeps teasing the gay aspect while steering clear of actually saying one way or the other. But generally I hate this bullshit 'they're not friends they're gay' shipping fad.

ANYWAY. Why am I still the only player with an IC post to their name?

Edit: And don't take this a gay-bashing, either. It mostly stems from my own personal intensely close relationship with my best friend of 9 years, and how it's incredibly difficult to show the deep-seated but non-romantic affection I hold for him without constant jokes being cracked about our secret homosexual affair.

At the end of the day it really comes down to each to their own I suppose. I look at 'crowd-sourcing' in a very negative light because there's no way you'll please everyone. What if an equal number of players voted for each option?

I think, the player needs to know what they want to do, or at the very least the character they want to play. Heck if you end up making a character you're not able to connect with or not like because the players wanted a different vision then you're going to be no good to anyone.

But like I said, ultimately it comes down to each to their own.

EDIT: I have a draft I'm currently working on for my IC post :P

I don't watch Sherlock or Elementary or, well, any of those crime or detective or hospital or whatever shows. I do watch True Blood for some reason though. I just know that tumblr's all about the gay ships.

Probably because you're the only one with a computer! In my head anyway...

I see True Blood as more of T&A for the LBGT crowd, which is weird for me because I'm heterosexual.

I think.

I hope.

This

And the reason I gave up my unfinished Guy Gardner cs is due to thr fact that, even though I have "google as a friend", I'm not familiar enough with Guy in the comics. The most i've read of him was back in the Death of Superman comics, the rest via wikipedia. But with Cyborg, i've seen him on Smallville, Teen Titans (original, and GO, so far 3 N52 Justice League comics, and the rest via google.

So that's why I not only changed my mind, but asked for people's opinions.
