Welcome
to the universe...The Supreme Cosmic Entity is at it again, stitching together the fabric for a brand new universe. With every pass of the cosmic needle the universe comes that much closer to completion, but before then there's one little thing that must not be forgotten: bringing in a pantheon to keep an eye on the thing!
This is where you come in. The Not-So-Supreme Cosmic Entities, you've been called in to oversee the latest in the SCE's grand collection. As gods, you'll be responsible for the stability of the universe, seeing to any tears in the fabric and generally trying to keep the ol' Supreme Cosmic Stick-Up-the-Butt off your case. But, as they say, with great responsibility comes great power (or something like that). You've got free run to do whatever you want, so why not do what all gods do best: smiting mortals!
Oh, but it looks like there are no mortals here to smite. Guess you'll have to put some of that Nigh-Infinite Divine Power to use setting some things up first.
Who are you?
Somebody important, I betWhat is a god? I'm sure we could get very philosophical answering this question, but this isn't Navel Gazing 101 so we're going to skip that whole conversation and go straight to the meat of it. You are a being of pure cosmic awesome: you may be old, you may be new, but regardless of age you are bigger, stronger, smarter, more magical than literally anything that isn't another god. Keeping universes is your bread and butter; it's literally why you exist. Do note that though gods are infinite, the universes they maintain are not. This may not be your first universe, and chances are good it won't be your last. Some of you may even already be acquainted with each other from previous gigs! Hopefully that's not too awkward. Imagine running into a coworker you didn't like and thought you'd never see again, yeesh.
Gods come in many forms! Some gods look like people! Some gods look like spiders! Some gods look like an all-encompassing abyss of your every failure and shattered dreams! Some gods look like kittens! If you can imagine it, and sometimes even if you
can't imagine it, it can be a god. Don't... try not to go too crazy with that. A gold robot with laser eyes and a bad comb-over is one thing, but a 12.6-dimensional omniwolf made of legos and swiss cheese is stretching things a bit.
Welcome
to the... world?Gods have free run of an entire universe. That's a lot of space! Often, gods rarely even have to see each other most of the time, much less interact in any meaningful way.
Unfortunately, due to the economy and a series of budget cuts, the SCE is working small today. This universe consists of the Sun, which doubles as the SCE's base of command, and one single habitable planet. Creating stuff, especially big stuff like an entire 'nother planet, is a lot of work that nobody wants to do, so you're all gonna have to stake your claims on this one little world. If you're quick, you might even be able to get an entire continent to yourself!
The Phases of Creation
Only gods last foreverThis roleplay will have
phases. They're pretty basic though, so don't worry too much about them. Here's how the order is going to go:
- Creation: In this phase, all the big stuff is gonna happen. Altering the landscape to suit your needs, adding little quirks and concepts to the world, making myths, what-ever. At this point mortals do not exist, and they will continue to not exist until the next phase. You are free to lay the groundwork for your race, e.g. sculpting bodies out of clay or preparing other animals to be raised to sentience, but nothing with more than an animal level of intelligence will exist during this phase.
- Dawn of Civilization: This is the real meat of the story right here. At this point, the SCE will allow gods to imbue their creations with intelligence, and you will be free to guide your race however you like. Heroes will appear, nations will rise and fall, and through it all the gods will be working in their mysterious ways. At this point it is very likely that you will develop multiple characters, perhaps a champion of your god, or another notable mortal. You can do pretty much whatever you want, keeping in mind that the Age of Creation is over and done with, but please for the love of SCE if you're going to go all Zeus and Leda on one of your mortals just fade to black.
- Armageddon: The final phase, this is the point where the threads that once held creation together begin to unravel. Guide the mortals to a dignified end, or watch them squirm as the world is consumed in fire and ice. Keep an eye out, however: if there are holes appearing in the universe, there's always the possibility of something sneaking through them...
And that's it
For now...That is the whole thing right there. So! Ask some questions, let me know if you're interested, and I'll put up a character template or something later and if there's enough interest we'll go build a world.
Name: The obvious
Domain: Your god's chosen domain, the concepts over which you rule. Gods may have multiple domains, such as a god of the ocean and trade, and more domains may become added to your god as the rp goes on.
Personality: Just a basic outline to help us get to know your god. I won't hold you to this, but it's good to know what we're all getting into before we start.
Appearance: Gods typically have more than one appearance, as there are plenty out there that enjoy taking on mortal disguises for their own purposes. Gods may appear differently to mortals than to their fellow god-kin, so you may want to make a note of that as well.
Symbols: Gods often find themselves associated with materials, shapes, even colors. As with domain, gods can acquire new symbolism as the rp goes on.
Trivia: Anything else that's important about your god. Relationships with other gods for example, or a resume of escapades from past universes, etc. Whatever you'd like here, really.
NEW!Full Pantheon Online
Name: Djinn, the Goddess of Ceaseless Warmth, the Mirthful Flame, Candle of the Heavens.
Domain: Magic
Personality: Djinn is a strange and energetic Goddess, one who prefers the tastes and touches of a mortal body to an incorporeal, omniscient thought-form. Once she starts smiling there is no force in this universe than can bring her down, and she can only get even more excited and cheerful the more you try. Distinctively unpredictable and chaotic, she has been known to possess a mischievous streak, particularly targeted at her fellow Gods.
Appearance: In her most basic form, Djinn is an unquenchable, smokeless flame that is amorphous in nature, changing colours and shifting between forms freely even with no observers present. She is, however, known for transforming often, and is especially fond of taking mortal forms to enjoy her share of earthly pleasures.
Symbols: Fire.
Name: The Spiral
Domain: Chaos and Dreams. The Spiral has the power to alter reality to frightening degrees, mimicking the dreamscape sentient beings visit when they sleep. This power is near limitless, just like that of the world inside the dream, but is restricted, as the Spiral cannot physically exist in the same world as the others, and must be invoked. Objects that bear the shape of the God's namesake produce the necessary energies to channel his powers, but ultimately, the Spirals need to be more complex and large to fully recreate the land of dreams, otherwise the Spiral would exist without limit, in every single organic being, due to the spiral helix of DNA. Otherwise, the Spiral exists to create chaos, the necessary changes in reality, social upheavals, natural disasters, and most importantly, anarchy. This is often caused by a major Spiral symbol staying in a place for too long, producing a curse, or somebody living around a spiral object for too long, inciting strange, ideal-changing dreams.
Personality: The Spiral has no obvious personality, as it cannot properly communicate with the outside world, however, it does have goals, often voiced by its two avatars, Lucid and Manic. The Spiral's goal can change from benevolent, to corrupt, to outright incomprehensible. The way people see it is even varied inside the myths of its worshipers, sometimes shown as a Benevolent bringer of change, or a destructive force of Chaos. Until something finally breaches the barrier to its home dimension, the world will never know its true self.
Appearance: The Spiral has no known appearance, and is mostly depicted either as its namesake or a giant Hermit Crab, wearing a Spiral seashell. The Spiral's two avatars in the physical world, Manic and Lucid, have distinct forms, however. Manic takes the form of a man in a time-displaced entirely white business suit, down to the shoes, with blonde hair, a yellow bowtie held together with a pink and purple Candy Skull, and a perpetual shadow over his face. Lucid takes the form of a stone statue, held together by bronze joints. It has a crescent moon for a head, and the statue portion of its body perfectly reflects the body of the person it appears to.
Symbols: The Spiral is primarily associated with its namesake, and the color green. However, ti also has other symbols, such as the Impossible Triangle or Penrose Steps.
Trivia: Inspired by the film Inception and the manga Uzumaki, so if you're familiar with either, you might be able to see what's coming, with enough unique twists, of course.
Name: Neuron
Domain: Science, Science fiction, Geeks
Personality: Likes to make new devices and do things in new ways, even if they aren't particularly useful.
Appearance: A black hole, or a star, or a brain, depending on who he's talking to. Once the world develops television and comic books, he'll show up among them in a LARPing or Cosplay outfit. Occasionally, he gives his people new ideas for tech or sci-fi, especially if things start to get boring.
Symbols: infinity symbol, MC Echer type art
Trivia: Has an anime/sci-fi collection which contains the complete works from over a dozen past universes, because he wouldn't want to get bored.
Name: Sigilo
Domain: Poison, Greed, and Lies
Personality: Sigilo is completely Amoral, and feels that if as long as something benefits him it's the correct thing to do. He will often lie or cheat about things in order to trick mortals to do what he wants, and feels that once they no longer benefit his needs then they become worthless, and are abandoned. He feels that all things must serve a purpose, and that once they no longer serve that purpose then they should no longer exist.
Appearance: He is sometimes depicted by mortals as either a pure black robed figure with leather gloves, and no recognizable face, or as a two headed snake, but in the mortal world is willing take on more forms to not draw attention to himself. To other gods he will simply remain as a dark robed figure, with no face to speak of, and hands, and legs completely masked by the robe itself.
Symbols: The symbols Sigilo are mostly associated with are the three blades of the assassin, which are representing all three domains that Sigilo control, and is a picture of two knives crossing each other, and the third going through the middle, Darkness, and the robe of ishmar, which is a simple image of his robed appearance to the mortals.
Name: The It
Domain: Fear, Sadness and Humility
Personality: It tends to be a rather nice person to be around despite the domain it controls. Of course, It also tends to be a bit distracting given sentences are often cut short by interjections of "brilliant" ideas it had regarding more fears. Admittedly it may be strange to speak to a fellow so cheerful while surrounded by the wails and despair of sad people all over the world, but if one looks past it, they'll come to find that The It is a rather nice individual. The It also takes part heavily in visiting the worlds it takes over, intent on learning more about the mortal peoples in order to better its sadness/fear inducing abilities. That, and punishing those without humility by humiliating them is much more enjoyable to him when observed up close.
In some cases, the It will be rather depressing to be around, when a huge part of the people is shrouded in fear and distress. It will also take part in the sadness, its large cow eyes brimming with tears. Even in sadness, the It is energetic.
Appearance: Appears now and again as a really big cow, but rather than spots, is covered with clustered cow eyes. The eyes are filled with the ever changing movement of old universes, as though the cow were simply a transparency being dragged across the scene. Sometimes it takes a humanoid form which is androgynous in voice, actions and body. The hair tends to be black and seems to be a flicker of wailing and strange mortal fears, long and billowing over a covered face. It's eyes are larger than a normal human's, and these eyes, too, mirror the vastness of the universe. It usually uses this face when dressing itself as a human, though will sometimes take to wearing different body types, be it thin and limber or big and brawn.
Symbols: Mostly associated with a single eye with three thick top lashes and a single falling tear drop. The symbol has often been simplified to an upside down triangle with a circle at the tip. Sometimes is connected to the cow depending on the myth.
Trivia: Has a tendency of dressing in frilly dresses while assuming a male body when dressing as a human. It's unsure as to why it assumes such attire given the array of choices, but when asked, will always respond with a change of topic.
The It is also not at all competitive. Like, in a competition of non-competitiveness, It will probably win. /sarcasm
Speaking of competitiveness, one of It's last heroes died for the sake of a competition between It and another god. If the topic is brought up, It will turn rather depressing to be around.
Name: Chanda
Domain: Fertility, new life and prosperity.
Personality: While Chanda is a peaceful and gentle goddess, she is still inevitably unpredictable. Be it a dreamt of child or a regrettable accident, she is generous with her blessings to all, whether they are asked for or not. Although she can be subdued rather easily, she is quick to recover her strength and try again in new ways.
Appearance: She can appear as a young pregnant woman, or a businessman in a suit, with pale blonde hair and gold-tinged skin. However she appears, she has a decidedly feminine voice and red clothing. Another form she can take is of a small rabbit-like creature, with bronze coloured fur
Symbols: Blooming red flowers, seeds and young creatures.
Trivia: There's rumours of her having had an affair with a God in a previous universe, but it's unknown whether it's true, or if she had a child from that.
Name: Sylvan, the Treefather
Domain: Forests, Wild Beasts, Storms
Personality: Sylvan is wise, but wild and free at heart. He's neutral to the plights of mortals (save animals) unless they prove worthy to him. He gets along well with some of the other gods and goddesses, but despises those whose spheres would do harm to his. He comes off as carefree and fun-loving, tending to enjoy a good frolic, or revel in the thrill of a hunt, often inviting other gods to come along. He is easy to provoke, however, if you know what buttons to press, and defends the forests and their denizens with a violent and savage wrath.
Appearance: Sylvan has several known forms. To other gods, he tends to appear as a giant, many-horned stag. To mortals, he has varying appearances depending on his intentions. When unprovoked, he tends to appear either as a Giant Oak, writhing with life, or a naked young boy with a laurel crown of tree leaves, and vines covering the modest areas of his body. However, when moved to anger, Sylvan has appeared as a Giant Boar with a mossy covering, or a Giant Wolf with thorny vines and leaves growing out of it's fur. On rare occasions, he has manifested as a giant tornado in the shape of a tree, with persistent lightning making up it's branches.
Symbols: A single green leaf, a wolf's head, or an oak tree.
Trivia: Sylvan was once much more pleasant toward mortals, but after witnessing mortal creation's capacity for destruction in universes past, he has hardened his heart to all but his own creations.
Name: Girono, Lord of the Oceans
Domain: The ocean, travel, and commerce
Personality: As the personification of a concept as tumultuous as the ocean, Girono's moods are similarly varied. He has been known to send fair winds and calm waters to those that he favors, but mortals that have earned his enmity had best stay away from the oceans of the world, lest they find themselves caught up in a violent tempest. Girono is extremely territorial as far as gods go, and considers anything below sea level to be his property with which he can do as he pleases. He is the patron deity of merchants and traders, who offer him sacrifices in hopes of easy travel and good trades. Girono is fickle, however, and any minor slight can be grounds for a major shipwreck.
Appearance: On the rare occasions that he may appear before a mortal, the Lord of the Oceans is an enormous merman, with a coral crown and a beard like octopus tentacles and ocean waves. He carries with him a great golden fisherman's spear, which he uses to cull the ships of those that displease him from the water. To his fellow gods he appears as a great body of water with many-colored fish swimming around within.
Symbols: Waves, silver coins, boats, and occasionally storm clouds. He is most often rendered in shades of blue, especially with indigo dyes and cobalt.
Trivia: Merchants have been known to toss silver overboard in hopes of appeasing Girono and having a safe journey.
NameAsala, Grand Deity of Harmony, Great Teacher of Culture and Rationality, Seamstress of Reality
DomainHarmony, Balance, Connection, ReasonAsala governs over the mortals’ ability to curb instinct and act rationally and the world’s harmony and balance of forces. She promotes connections of all things within the world and preaches reason over instinct to her followers. At her best, she helps provide an answer for questions and a reason for events. At her worst, she replaces feelings with rationality and forces a calculable value on lives. It is thanks to her that things such as culture and civilizations exist, that people believe in "karma." It is thanks to her that rulers barely bat an eyelid over the loss of an army, that prosperity is balanced by decay. Basically, it's her job to make sure everything "fits," "makes sense," and "has a reason." As one can assume, to do this she will blatantly step on the toes of many gods.
PersonalityA spoilsport among gods and a mysterious savior among mortals, Asala generally tries being the “straight man” in a chaotic world filled with pain, pleasure, and instinct. At the same time, everything has a certain value and if the value is too low it is not worth her time. While she will give her full support to any promising beings regardless of which deity created them, the moment they lose their value is the moment when they are abandoned by Asala. The one thing she detests more than being wrong is being disappointed. Fortunately for mortals, the other gods do a very good job at making her step in constantly. She may hate wasting time on worthless beings, but she does not like other gods just haphazardly devaluing anything they touch. Call it sentimentality or childishness, but she does not like others breaking her toys even if they are abandoned.
On that note, she makes a point only to remember useful information. Even if the exact same mortal made small talk with her every single day, Asala does not form any kind of attachment towards the mortal. If the mortal was a disappointing existence, then Asala would – without fail – be unable to recognize or remember it. To be asked for one’s name is the greatest honor Asala bestows upon mortals. To be unrecognized as her creation is the greatest shame.
An unfeeling god who fully supports all creations until the moment they do not meet her expectations. An emotionless deity that would abandon all mortals and forget any gods who are not deemed valuable enough to warrant her attention. An aloof being who believes the one’s worth outweighs all thoughts, actions, or life.
That is the god of Harmony.
That is Asala.
Even so, even Asala cannot help but be intrigued by beliefs such as “hope” and “winning against all odds.” Though she may preach that there is value in lives that can be calculated and that one’s worth decides whether they succeed or fail, she cannot help but quietly cheer for the underdog. She also is nigh-unprovokable in the mortal realm; baseless claims and hollow slander have, obviously, little value. On the other hand it is incredibly easy, almost shamefully so, for gods to provoke Asala. It may be a bunch of hot air for the most part, but luckily it’s also quite easy to pacify her.
AppearanceAsala’s “standard” for appearing before mortals is to be blinding ray of light and disembodied choir of voices. There are times when she appears as something else, but those are usually when her confidence in this world is brimming or waning.
When she is happy with the current state of affairs, she may appear as a woman or man with a face (or at least the eyes) hidden by a mask, helmet, veil, cloth, or other similar garment. A curious factor is that her form does not have such divine beauty or otherworldly attraction as most other gods seem to have, but instead a quiet strength and humble purity. She is more likely to be a confident farm boy with a large, warm smile than a beautiful and seductive stranger in a hidden cabin off the road.
However, should her confidence in the world start to falter, she will appear as young child of snow white and wander the world in search for a champion to rekindle her confidence. She will leave the mortal realm soon after appearing regardless of if she found a champion or not, but whether she stays to watch over the mortals or abandons them depends on her findings.
For the other gods, she either takes the form of a small, white, unassuming creature or as a faceless imitation of her current champion.
SymbolsSymmetry is Asala’s main symbol, mostly due to the fact that she has few actual appearances yet is constantly watching over all. As such, any form of symmetry is considered to be Asala’s divine influence in keeping balance and harmony in the world, such as it does for the symbol. She also is connected with the color white which (depending on who you ask) can be viewed as either the fusion or absence of all colors, but regardless is seen as order, cleanliness, and purity – much like her gift of rationality and culture in this base and instinctual world.
TriviaFemales give birth, males (usually) do not. As such, females are more valuable in Asala’s eyes and thus she uses a female form.
Asala admires the Supreme Cosmic Entity. Actually, she worships it. No, not just that – she is obsessed with it. If they were mortals, it might be some form of obsessive love or possessive lust but as gods, Asala considers the Supreme Cosmic Entity to be an unmatched avatar of absolute value, a being whose worth shall never wane and only ever increase. It is the perfect entity for someone so obsessed with the worth of one’s being, someone such as Asala.
