Hello and welcome, here is where we will start weaving together our ideas for our brand new world. All ideas are welcome, but I feel to keep things from getting messy, we will vote together on what stays and what goes, no hard feelings if your idea isn't used. I just want the end result to make at least the tiniest fraction of what can be argued as sense.

Having themeing from medieval times and some technology of sci-fi, perfectly fine. Having sentient rainbow ice creams fight dinosaurs with lightsabers. Maybe fine. Who knows where we will go?

if you wish to focus on one aspect of creating that's fine, but working on many little things is great too. A decent amount of info or depth on your creation would nice, not just saying "Plants that eat dwarves." Say where they grow (if we've made anywhere yet for them to do that) what climate they prefer, what are they called? If you want to go deeper all the power to you. I hope we can make some interesting stuff and, eventually getting around to using it.

I don't want to put too many stipulations in, as this is all about freedom of thought and such, but if you have anything to add in terms of rules or regulations, we can talk about that too.

The way I see it, we can best do this one of two ways: start at the bottom and work up, or start at the top and work down.

The first option means begin with the world itself; what kind of environments there are, what kind of plants and animals, then move on to what kind of races live there and what sort of cultures they have. It's also possible to do it the other way around, and build a world to fit a race of people.

The first thing I'm going to throw out there is related to the world itself, and that's the possibility of a planet orbiting a binary star. =) That's something I've been wanting to do for a while.

Perhaps we could do a mix of genres?

Anachronism is always fun, at least for now. We may change our minds later, but it's a good place to start. I've personally used extinction events to explain it a lot (if Pixel is doing history, then they can figure out the details of that), as in there was a sapient race with advanced tech but for whatever reason it's not there anymore but shiny stuff is strewn all over mysteriously.

I like the idea of a race being gone and leaving things behind for new ones. I just looked up a binary star and that sounds very interesting!

Lesley said building up from the bottom may be a good idea, and i agree, it will make working on things later a lot easier. So for now lets try throwing out ideas about the planet and what it's like. We can talk about continents and such, also for future reference mixing genres is way fine by me, I was going to be throwing out idea like that sooner or later.

So when we're talking about anachronism, what kind of technology would be involved? I think it sounds like a very interesting concept, but we'll need to put down a basic setting for the world. What do you guys think? Medieval-like times with advanced technology? Civil war period times? Industrial? There's a lot more, we have endless possibilities! Also, will there be any magic involved in this world? I think a really awesome concept to explore is magic being of the old world, like an extinct race which was mentioned earlier, and it's discovered in a singular way which ends up in a huge conflict for the unheard of power. I dunno, just throwing an idea in. It's all up to you guys! :3

If I may put down my two pennies on the planet issues I do have a few concepts for a pretty unique planet in a binary solar system that actually has a diagonal rotation.
Said planet was used in a weird hybrid-like world in which the planet had been colonized by humans with pretty advanced techniques and knowledge, but due to a series of natural cataclysms the knowledge of fabricating the tools and technology slowly faded and the items themselves either remained as relics that future generations could not use or just faded into oblivion.
So it was basicaly a medieval society with some pretty high-tech ancestry.
This is more so Sterk's first mentioned idea regarding anachronism and quite frankly it sounds like a good place to start fleshing out the universe.

Yeah, I'm in on the idea of medieval with extinct tech. One of my worlds also has a single city where the people have been isolated for hundreds of years and live in a sort of Cyberpunk-esque world, keeping other people from having what they have for political reasons.

I like the idea that humans were the ones to disappear, usually those who leave behind technology in other worlds are alien races.

Perhaps a developing species was native to the planet, and humans came to colonize it, for some reason a disaster occurred, and they had to leave. All that was left behind was the hints of their technology and wastelands of what used to be their homes. The other species took refuge and developed in it. Not knowing humans were still waiting for their time to return, perhaps having a large station in orbit, regarded by the native species as some sort of deity or just another natural satellite. Or perhaps they tried or managed to return to earth or wherever human in this time live.

We can make a mixture of technology levels, and a mixture of architecture this way too, the natives taking reference to build from what was left behind and what was shown in books and other such things humans left. We can have pockets of much more or much less developed styles here an there due to the humans visit.

As for magic I was thinking of putting it in, the old idea of technology and magic working together is a favorite of mine.

Just spitballing, I like what i'm seeing, it's very intriguing.

Following up on that, if anyone wants to pool resources from this idea:

One of my fictional worlds is based on the idea of an Aztec culture that was allowed to continue and blossom into an advanced society. It isn't set on earth, but instead it's backstory is that after Quetzalcoatl left earth he created a new world with a similar image. The people in this world have a mean level of 80s technology by the time the story set there starts, but their mythology and ancient monuments closely resemble Mesoamerican culture. That also has some impact on how their world and current culture has evolved, with new religions/belief systems splintering off from the original.

With a binary star, the most important thing related to any planet in such a system would be: Is this a "close" binary or a "distant" binary system. To throw in a further wrinkle, how about a binary planet? Around a binary star? Each planet with its own species/culture/tech-level. Perhaps very similar, perhaps very different, depending on how these binary worlds interact with each other and with their binary suns.

I have thought about close planets in a similar situation before but never thought to apply it here.

I would love for that sort situation a it adds so many more layers of depth.

Indeed, though it also adds layers of complexity to the "believability" factor.

What about the planet core?

Is it magma like earth? Is it water that pours out, creating a mostly water planet? Is it composed of raw magical energy?
