Naruto: Birth of a Better Generation is a Naruto-themed roleplay that incorporates dystopian and post-apocalyptic elements into its setting. The roleplay takes place after the reign of a dictator named Sai, the Conqueror whom seized control over all lands and nations through sheer force during the Second Great Shinobi War. The present setting of the roleplay is a time of rebuilding, reigning in a whole new era of Kage that also act as the Daimyo of their respective Lands. Old rivalries as well as new alliances have been forged, paving the way for the new world while it tries to make sense of freedoms it has not experienced in the last two decades.

Sai, the Conqueror took reign as Lord of all Lands roughly eighteen years before the current setting, and did so after killing his former sensei, half-brother and former-teammate, all of whom led the usurpation with him. His betrayal to his comrades is rumored to have been from his bad blood, his twisted body, his broken heart and just the power he had in general, but regardless of the truth, he overthrew several of the most powerful shinobi in the world at the same time as well as decimated clans, their leaders and the remaining Jounin that stood in his way. Sai then ended all war with severe punishments as far as death for crime, claiming that the end to all hostilities was a true reign of peace. It was not.

Although Sai wished to create a world were no man had to become a warrior and Shinobi were no longer needed, the people went without a voice. His guards, who were not trained to use chakra, but were taijutsu experts, often abused their power and abused the citizens they were enlisted to protect. Only a handful of shinobi existed in the world, aside from the resistance, and Sai made efforts to eliminate shinobi all together, going as far as genocide on most clans, all of whom became refugees from the law. Although it was not entirely the fault of the leader when it came to the corruption of his domain, it was viewed as such, thus leading to the resistance growing stronger and stronger.

Fifteen years past. Most clans were purged, shinobi were all-but a myth and the people had been lulled into their new lives. Sai ruled each major village using a clone of himself, and was working on improving his society at this point. Culture and history were lost permanently because of his reign, families slaughtered and even with improving conditions for the people, the resistance found it too much. Each resistance overthrew their respective government using jutsu that hadn't been seen in years, leading to a final showdown in what was once Amegakure, the home village of Sai prior to his reign. There, no longer split and at his full strength, a final showdown ensued between Sai and the leaders of the resistance. In terms of power, the shinobi stood no match. Sai, however, was but a single person, and his own forces were wiped out.

The fight with Sai resulted in the destruction of Amegakure. Killing him meant piercing his four extra hearts, which was no small feat. Only after was Sai sealed away using the Reaper Death Seal, to ensure his death. However, even after sealing away Sai's soul, a new purge was required. Sai had placed Cursed Seals on every remaining member of his regime, resulting in the resistance being forced to hunt them down to avoid all chances of Sai ever being resurrected. This time was known as The Great Purge, and during it was also the time that the resistance leaders became the new world leaders and conflict began arising. During The Great Purge, the resistance - once a strong, global coalition - began falling apart, resulting in the old boundaries being accepted and the resistance leaders becoming the Kage and Daimyo of their lands. The final act of the resistance was ending The Great Purge, as the hunt for the sealed became a responsibility for each village.

Now, villages are rebuilding from the war, Amegakure is gone and the people are rejoicing in their newfound freedom. Conflict is arising again, a new generation of shinobi are being trained. Thousands of techniques were lost, only a handful of clan members are left alive and each village is taking different steps to revitalize itself and its people. Political standpoints are never solid, trade is unreliable and the boundaries between lands are constantly being pushed. No single nation has a military strong enough to do anything after the losses from the resistance and the Great Purge, which most villages have let fade away. It is only a matter of time to see what happens when a world that is rebuilding regains its militant strength.

Konohagakure (literally meaning Village Hidden by the Tree Leaves) is the hidden village of the Land of Fire and its present capitol. As with most other villages, the founding of Konohagakure has been lost. Former shinobi registration and even the names of most shinobi prior to the Second Great Shinobi War have been lost, leading the only real knowledge of the past being the mention of the Third Hokage (the Hokage being the Kage of Konohagakure) of the Uchiha Clan. The most recent Hokage, the Nidaime Hokage, Hosuka Uzumaki, resides in the new Hokage Residence, the former office of Sai, the Conqueror.

Konoha has returned to its place as one of the strongest shinobi villages in the world. The shinobi of this village wear blue or black shirts which may or may not have swirl patterns on the shoulders, along with matching coloured pants over a green flak jacket which also has a red swirl on the back, and pockets on the chest area. They also tend to wrap bandages around their legs. A large number of shinobi from this village seem to have an affinity for Fire Release.

In Character Summary.

Chapter One: First Class of a Better Generation

Post 1 - Ongoing.
The large class of Konohagakure was whittled away within weeks of being assigned onto teams. Divisions B and D were destroyed almost immediately, for differing reasons each. Division D was assassinated on one of their first missions escorting goods to Kirigakure in a good-will effort gone wrong. Rumors were that it was an act of the new Seven Swordsman in spite of Shin Uzumaki, the current holder of the Samehada. Division B was eliminated, including its Jounin leaders, for reasons kept enigmatic to most, however those whom claim to know about it discuss the topic with disgust - if they do at all. The loss of these two Divisions alone not only startled the Konohagakure community, but also noted the loss of roughly one-third of the graduated genin.

Not all travesties were so enigmatic nor were they caused by outside conflicts. Several notable Jounin found themselves unstable when training these genin, or simply could not tolerate this generations lack of respect or formality. Of the multitude that fell, none stood out more so than the Legend himself, Kirugetsu Hozuki. In his fall from grace, Kirugetsu purportedly slaughtered two of his genin after a confrontation with his peer, Hayato - the Jounin leader of his sister team. These series of events left Hayato as a missing-nin for his assault on Kami, a now-demoted chuunin. These losses devastated Division A, forcing yet another team restructure and the dissolve of Division D and E, leaving only Divisions A, B and C. as well as leaving a nearly seventy-five percent morality rate among the first class in its first month.

Less than a week prior, Shin Uzumaki had just introduced all of Division A. It was a time of excitement. Each new genin curious as to whom they would be assigned under, chuunin being made into leaders so that they would someday be prepared as Jounin. Shin spoke with raw power and conviction that day, assigning squads and cells, only for them to be dissolved and death to rip apart the young shinobi seemingly every day. There had not been a sense of stability in the ranks of this generation until recently with the addition of the Twin Sages, and the hope was that the weak were already sifted out and that superior leadership would yield better results. It seemed like in just a blink, great Jounin like Goro were forgotten. So much change in such a short time, and even more death.

The present status of Division A, and the characters as we know them, is with the introduction of the Twin Sages, Iroh and Kyou. Iroh, as the Seismic Sage, is a front-line leader and headstrong fighter; Kyou, the Bamboo Sage, is equivocally of the front line, but is far more precise and refined. The two are considered one of the most equal - and powerful - pair of shinobi within Konohagakure, and were ripped from their front-line duties to become a Jounin squad leaders. That said, the first class of this better generation has already been shown great loss and despair, and the projections from the Hokage are that it won't end for some time. Expectations for this class are that only ten percent of them will even make it a year, and there are only twenty-five percent of them remaining.

History. Little is known about the past of Konohagakure before the Second Great War, however, it is regarded as the single most powerful nation of that era and thus far has proven to be the single most powerful nation of the current era. The remnants of most clans within Konohagakure give it a slightly larger pool of Shinobi for its next generation, granting it a slight advantage over most other villages, thus granting it further economic advantages. Hosuka Uzumaki, the current Hokage, is the younger brother of the shinobi whom performed the reaper death seal on Sai, the Conqueror. It was essentially that altruistic act that earned Hosuka his place in addition to his great power. Because the brother of the current Hokage also led the resistance, many unaligned shinobi from the resistance chose to make Konoha their new home. All of these factors have made Konoha the most powerful and well-respected shinobi village in current existence, however, they have also earned it a high amount of spite due to the advantages it has attained through means other than village loyalty.

Clans. Konohagakure was one of the least fortunate villages during the purge of clans, however, many of the clan members from its major clans survived, with the exception of the entirely obliterated Aburame Clan. Although only a handful of clan members are alive, ranging from twenty to thirty, each every clan ranging from the Senju to the Uchiha and even the Nara and Akamichi are still alive. Although many hiden and knowledge about their kekkei genkai were lost, members of the clans are still regarded as some of the more powerful Shinobi of the era, many of which are veterans of the War on Sai. With the lost of most history regarding clans, there was a great equalizer within the village, with quelled previous strains between the clans. The Hon Clan, a former elite clan of the village, was left with only four known survivors, putting the clan in an endangered position. Overall, clans are met with respect and sympathy due to the large losses they have taken in recent decades.

Clan List

Akimichi Clan

The Akimichi clan, alongside the Nara, Inuzuka and the Yamanaka, were of the more fortunate clans within Konohagakure. Only its elites and actual shinobi were hunted down; the civilian members of this clan were left undisturbed for the most part. The survival of their food pill recipe and calorie confusion as well as size manipulation jutsu have been left alive to be past down through the few who knew them and survived the Era of Sai.

Hataga Clan

The Hataga flan served Sai during the Era of Sai, or at least attempted to fuel war in general then. Most were wiped out in the last stand of the Hataga during the overthrow of the Sai Regime by the resistance. Others fled to live life as shameless cowards, tossing aside the Hataga surname. The few left alive after the last stand regrouped and have mostly dissolved into enigma with no real allegiance.

Hon Clan

Once a proud clan of Lighting Masters from Konohagakure sporting the skill of the Sarutobi with the talent of the Senju, the Hon clan stood proud. Since then, it was mercilessly and systematically hunted down by Sai himself, having more effort put into its nigh-extinction than any other known clan. Less than a handful of Hon are alive today, and all are men.

Hyūga Clan

The Hyūga clan, alongside the Senju and Uchiha, were of the more unfortunate clans within Konohagakure. The Hyūga were hunted down mercilessly and even their civilians were not spared. Most went into hiding with a constant search, others served the resistance and few tried to preserve their culture. Now, there are no branches of this clan as its former structure was dissolved. As with all other clans, it has a single Clan Head that speaks to the Hokage.

Inuzuka Clan

The Inuzuka clan, alongside the Akimichi, Nara and Yamanaka clans, were of the more fortunate clans within Konohagakure. Only their shinobi and elites were slaughtered, in addition to a majority of their ninken. After that, the Inuzuka were essentially left alone, with few ninken surviving and many fighting (and dying) in the resistance.

Nara Clan

The Nara clan was most likely the most fortunate of all clans during the era of Sai. Only its advisors and shinobi were killed, but the rest of the clan was actually left alone and encouraged by Sai as they tended to the forestry and animals of Konohagakure. Much of the Nara clan is preserved and it has become slightly more in tune with its naturalistic and medicinal aspects.

Sarutobi Clan

The Sarutobi clan was hunted to a far greater degree than the more fortunate clans of Konohagakure, but was not systematically killed like ones whom went into hiding. Much like the Shimura, the Sarutobi were highly oppressed during the Era of Sai with what could be considered police brutality and unfair treatment because of their history of powerful shinobi.

Senju Clan

The Senju clan, alongside the Hyūga and Uchiha clans, were of the more unfortunate clans within Konohagakure. The Senju were hunted down and and slaughtered as well as forced into hiding merely to survive. Even civilian Senju were not left safe, leaving very few of this clan behind.

Shimura Clan

The Shimura clan met a very similar fate to the Sarutobi. After having their elite and shinobi slaughtered, the Shimura clan were subjected to brutal conditions and unfair treatment due to their history of powerful shinobi. Both clans were oppressed to the degree they have slightly bonded.

Uchiha Clan

The Uchiha Clan, alongside the Hyūga and Senju clans, were of the more unfortunate clans of Konohagakure, if not the most unfortunate behind the Hon Clan. The Uchiha were not only hunted down to commit genocide on all shinobi, they were hunted for their Sharingan eyes which Sai used to help him control the tailed beasts. Few survive as elites, shinobi and even civilians were slaughtered.

Uzumaki Clan

The Uzumaki Clan are the cousins of the Senju and one of the most prominent clans in Konohagakure at the moment. Despite their status, their is no clan leader and a lot of animosity toward this clan due to the lineage and surname of Sai, the Conqueror. The clan had began dissolving during the Second Shinobi War and now has only re-emerged due to its deep-rooted leadership in Konohagakure and the former resistance.

Yamanaka Clan

The Yamanaka clan, alongside the Akimichi, Inuzuka and Nara clans, were of the more fortunate clans within Konohagakure. Only their elite and shinobi were killed and for the most part the rest of the Yamanaka were left to tend to gardens and flowers. The Yamanaka had a very similar, albeit less encouraged, fate than the Nara.

Locations. Due to the destruction of Amegakure, which at its time was the most advanced village with both the most advanced manufacturing and recreational areas, Konohagakure has became the most advanced village in the most stable nation. There are notably no monuments found within Konohagakure. The former Hokage monuments were destroyed by Sai, the Conqueror whom claimed no man, even himself, deserved immortal glorification. With the economic strength and large size of Konoha taken into account, it has a diverse amount of locations available to it:

- Shinobi Academy; the teaching facility for aspiring young shinobi
- Standard Academy: the teaching facility for all Konoha students
- Amaguriama: a chestnut-based sweets shop
- Dango Shop: another sweet shop, famous for its dango
- Hokage Residence: the home and office of the Hokage
- Golden Cat: an upscale restaurant with classier food at more expensive prices
- Jounin Standby Station: a station located beside the Shinobi Academy meant for Jounin to receive missions and important information
- Konoha Archive Library: a mostly destroyed library containing information regarding general history and jutsu
- Konoha Aviary: a communication station using hawk messengers
- Konoha Cemetary: the home of the dead and forgotten with many unmarked and defaced graves
- Konoha Hot Springs: the highlight of the village, its hot springs that have endured the ages.
- Konoha Enforcement Centre: A combination of the mission desk and former police force, this building houses the police force, is the briefing area for missions and acts as its intelligence division.
- Naka Shrine: a shrine found sacred by the Uchiha. It was destroyed by Sai, but the stone inside was saved. It has since been rebuilt by the Naka river
- Konoha Orphanage: the home to the young homeless of Konoha, many of whom become Shinobi
- Ramen Ichikaru: a well-known ramen shop
- Shushuya: a sake store
- Konoha Ninja Tool Facility: formerly a research facility, it is now reformatted to simply sell basic tools until further development
- Toko's Spicy Delights: a 'mom and pop's' style diner with - as expected - spicy, large-portioned and flavorful meals
- Training Grounds 1-45: training grounds scattered throughout Konoha serving different purposes. PM for use/ideas.

Rules:

- I, Prince, am Head Mod, and thus proceed over all other mods, making my work law. I'm also pretty lazy. So are my laws.
- Three paragraph minimum for posting. Keep it classy.
- Teams will either be a jounin and three genin or a chuunin and two genin. No present exceptions.
- Konoha is the only open village presently.
- NPC's are divided into two levels. Integral and not. INPC's are not available for player control and will be noted upon their use, but not immediately reprimanded. Aside from that, players may control NPC's to their liking to further roleplay. It is encouraged.
- Although I will be lenient on skill level as I want others to have fun, character death is a possibility and development is encouraged. This roleplay is meant to build upon characters, to develop them and flesh them out, not simply pit armed warriors against each other. The theme may be Naruto, but that is where the line ends.
-Character displacement abilities such as Kawarimi and Body Flicker are not permitted in combat situations. Exceptions can be made under certain circumstances, such as Safe Place.

Null Rhetoric Clause states that metaphors, similes, analogies and other figures of speech used in any description made by a roleplayer are not considered 'true' and can be contested and debunked by a Moderator or two-thirds vote of the present player roster. This applies to any background, history or description of an item, character or event not made by Staff.

Rite of Creative Domain states that anything created by the players for the setting or for their characters is subject to use and subjugation of the Staff. This does not apply to specific characters or items, but it does apply to anything not approved into the setting and used as descriptors for their characters, items, or events, such as NPC's, related items, clans and jutsu.

Quick Note About Ranks: Jounin have been appointed their position by their current Kage and most likely earned them during the resistance. The same goes for Chuunin and Special Jounin. The ANBU do not presently exist. ALL Genin must have passed the Shinobi Academy. Even if they fought in the resistance, they would either be good enough to be a Chuunin, dead or sent through the Academy.

Quick Note About Registration Numbers: Only Academy Graduates have been assigned Registration Numbers. They are used to keep track of fresh genin, not for identification. It was considered too large of a task to register all existing shinobi, thus they were skipped. Registration numbers range from 1-100 then the fourth digit represents their 'class', starting as zero. For instance, Kino (one of my characters) is 000006. He graduated sixth in his class, and was the first, class.

Quick Note About Bijuu/Jinchuuriki. Don't even ask: the answer is no. Konohagakure does have three: the nine-tails, seven-tails and five-tails.

Ya know, I'm in a pretty bad mood. If you don't want to let me finish, I won't waste my time in here. Find someone else, and good luck on your rp.

I have some issues with Kokai.

First and foremost, I don't really feel like he's a "Better Generations" character as much as he's just fit to the Naruto theme in general. I know his history is not made, but I really don't see any plot elements or aspects of Birth of a Better Generation inside the character design. He also feels slightly like the Gary Sue type of Loyal Clansmen archetype, which would be fine, but that entire archetype has been influenced by the mass genocide of every clan, very notably Konohagakure. On that note, even though there is pride in being a clan member, you have to realize this is only a set few years after every clan member was in hiding from Sai, who was selectively killing them. I would say that because of that alone, his training would be stunted greatly. Lastly, I do not personally mind using elemental jutsu on a Hyuuga, but there are four jutsu, some used by Jounin and S-Class ninja. Even if they scaled up, you have to realize that genin don't even learn most elemental jutsu at their stage. Sasuke was a prodigy and knew a handful of fire jutsu, and he was from one of the most prodigious clans of the series. I feel like you should reduce the jutsu to maybe one or two. I said six was the limit for genin; I did not say that having less would be less.

Overall, I want the character more cemented into the setting and I want the Wind Release scaled back greatly. If you still want jutsu for Wind Release, make some custom ones that are relatively weak, but useful in terms of utility. Don't limit yourself to the pre-existing pool.

I did state that your history had not been made, but I still am greatly capable of drawing conclusions from the information given and present you with my input. You do not just tell someone to 'not assume' and then complain about not getting a 'chance to explain' when I simply gave input on the material presented. If anything, you consider it an opportunity to build off more input and see the insight of the GM during the creation process.

Roleplay is art. I came from years of art classes. You cannot get defensive over a critique, elsewise you might as well just leave now.

And I assumed if I put in more work, I could utilize four Wind jutsu that are hardly even lethal. Don't throw your 'years of art classes' in my face like it makes you have more sense than me.

- I saw information, and I graded it based on what I saw. It was fair. I did the same for Krieg, whom did something very similar in his posting before formatting. He simply said 'wait a second', did it, and there was no problem. You couldn't even follow that example.

- You stated you had a bad mood, as if I'm entitled to care. Such activity is egocentric. You claimed you were insulted at what you believe is my assumption you could not do something. That is not only egocentric, it's indicative of an inferiority complex as you outwardly are attempting to prove something. This is only rectified by the fact you are trying to create a character whom you have to justify certain aspects of because they are normally above or beyond his placement.

Listen. I am not here to flame your thread. I am not trying to scare away people that want to roleplay with this plot. It is well-thought out, refreshing, and new. I wanted to be in with that. However, I found it unnecessary for you to review when I was not even done. This irks me beyond anything else. Actually, let me break it down.

- Don't compare me to Krieg. Kried had a character who fit well into your plot. You told me Kokai 'did not fit this roleplay'. What does that even mean? What are you looking for in this roleplay? I am trying to make a character with underlying values. So what if he is polite? You find it unacceptable that he is respectable? As if I'm trying to satisfy an egomaniacal fallacy?

You are both entertaining and annoying, and I will explain why. I am entertained in the sense that I enjoy debate. It's as simple as that. I am annoyed by the fact you are so defensive when you don't even need to be.

Let's begin with your assertion of my superiority complex. You base it off of two things: my statements and the model you have made of how my mind works. Your primary resources for this are that I stated I took years of art class; you believe that makes me feel like I am better. You also use my psychoanalysis and tone of writing, but neither of those are truly indicative of a superiority complex. You simply assumed that I believe I am superior. I will clarify.

I took four years of art classes, a year of general art, art studies, performance art and art appreciation. All of that is completely useless for me. I'm presently a registered EMT and Medical coder in the soon-to-be outdated ICD-9. I'm a nursing student presently and I specialize in psychology to become a PMHNP. Now, let me go off listing several reasons you're indicative of an inferiority complex: You dislike being compared and you immediately negated the one thing that would functionally rank me higher than you (me being GM) then claimed we're all equals. But those are the obvious ones. Let me go in deeper. In your verbal assaults on me, you don't demean the content of my statements, just me in general. You don't care about being right or wrong, as you obviously stated you are wrong, you just care about your image in the conversation. You boldly stated you don't want things done for you, meaning that you want to feel independent to the sheer degree you will get defensive over a critique. But probably most of all is this: your major combat to my claim of your inferiority complex is that I simply feel I'm superior.

So, here's my simple rebuttal to you. Leave. You had the opportunity to simply work with a minor critique or prove your character logically acceptable, but instead you decided to argue with the GM. I would've gladly accepted a character that made sense for their abilities. I've done it before. It actually tends to be how many of my personal characters work. But, instead of taking some minor criticism which was understandable, you had to get defensive and argued arbitrary facts.
