"Raaarg!" Donny roared as he cleaved yet another goblin in two. But that meant very little when he had four more, and a
Hobgoblin. Bigger, stronger, and generally more intelligent than their smaller kin, but not quiet as beefy and durable as an orc. But the hobgoblin had smarts, and knew how to order his goblins to get them to work effectively. When Donny slew one goblin, two more dug their blades into his calf while he was busy fighting, crippling his movement. He was only barely able to kick them away so they wouldn't chop off his foot, but even so he couldn't really do them much harm. He was getting a lot of mileage out of his buckler however, which saved him from the initial ambush, which was preformed by the hobgoblin himself. that might have been lethal. Donny knew that despite facing opponents physically weaker than him, he was outnumbered, and these goblins were too foolhardy to scare off with words or appearance. So he relied on a tactic that served him well over the years; legging it.
Although he couldn't get far, he was able to run out of the room and hide, the goblins foolishly giving chase. The Hobgoblin knew that Donny was up to something but couldn't get the goblins to stop chasing him. The four goblins screeched and hollered, tearing up the walls and the floors to find the orc. Thankfully their annoying screaming allowed Donny to hide the sound of his movements under their cacophony, and one by one he slew the goblins until the sole survivor finally took notice that he was alone. The brave idiot hopped around in place expecting a fight. Instead a bag of potatoes flew at the cretin, crushing it under it's sudden weight.
The Hobgoblin stood his ground as he focused on the door. He knew that Donny didn't know this building as well as he did; there was only one way he could come in, and that was through the door. The hobgoblin was ready to charge, to bullrush Donny and stab him to death. But it never came. Donny didn't care for the fight; he was here for the loot.
During his brief scuffle in the room he noticed no safe or chests, so no treasure to be had. The Hobgoblin had a nice weapon, sure, but nothing worth getting himself killed over. Instead Donny snuck into the Hobgoblin's personal room, and there he found a solid iron safe. He needed a key, but that wasn't too hard to find and Donny helped himself to the treasure... Which wasn't much, to be honest. A short eastern blade, a
Wakizashi he if remembered right. From the faint glowing runes on them the blade was enchanted, but he didn't know what kind of magic was on it. Than there was a bag of silver, could probably get him something decent with it. And lastly a journal of some sort. He didn't get a chance to read it before he heard the Hobgoblin making his approach, so Donny left as soon as he could.
The first thing Donny spent his silver on was some healing poultices. He slathered them on his wounds, but he'd need a few hours of rest before they would be fully healed. The journal was mostly the hobgoblin's personal diary, lot's of useless stuff there, but what Donny kept note on was that the Hobgoblin knew of another vacant location ripe for treasure hunting; a family crypt will be open to the public tomorrow, but the family itself was so unknown that no one would even be aware of it unless they were personal friends or just stumbled on it. The journal didn't really mention much of what could be found, but once the crypt was open it would be free game to take whatever you could carry out. Sounded like something Donny would try to go for. Last thing Donny did was less his steel sword to get the money to pay someone to decrypt the enchantment on his blade. It was a weak "Fortitude" enchantment; it would make Donny a bit more study while wielding it. Additionally, since it was magical, it had a 50% chance of harming incorporeal creatures like ghosts as well as increased durability. Good since he had no idea how he was suppose to use a Wakizashi; hacking and slashing was just about all he figured he could do with the weapon.
Saving up his coins for later, Donny ventured off into the night to find a place to rest. There was already a lot of bums taking up corner and street edges, and he'd rather not have any of them try to pinch something off of him. Unable to really find a "Homely" place, he simply looked for an unoccupied garbage dump and threw himself inside. It stunk to holy hell, but it's not like Donny was any better smelling, since he was still covered in goblin gore.
