These are the voyages of the starship Tyson. Its five-year mission: To explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.
It is the year 3013. Although major technological advancements have been at a standstill for nearly 200 years, those two centuries have also been met with relative peace in all of the known universe. 233 years ago, The Borg Collective was destroyed by an alliance of The United Federation of Planets, The Klingon Empire, and The Cardassian Union. This was seen as a major turning point in universal history -- The one enemy who could not be bargained with, who could not see reason, and who only wanted absolute conquest of the galaxy had been completely wiped out. The war lasted only five years, and was known as "The Great Quelling", in reference to the overwhelming allied victory. Although more than three million allied troops were lost, The Borg Collective in its entirety, just over sixty billion, was outright erased.
Thirty years after that, The Dominion faced the same fate, while Klingons and Cardassians joined The United Federation of Planets, which has become the universe's sole superpower. With the warlike Klingons brought to relative pacification, and the once ruthless Cardassian people holding several peace awards within The Federation, large-scale war has become a thing of the past.
Ten years ago, this peace was challenged.
WIP Description: In response to increasing hostility between several spacefaring nations, The United Federation of Planets launches USS Tyson, the first-ever NX-04 starship, capable of safely traveling at Warp Factor 10. Specifically, the crew selected while mostly human, features a very diverse group of beings from across the galaxy. Seen as a subversive testament to peace, the formerly hostile nations agree to parlay temporarily as they treat. In the mean time, the USS Tyson continues on the missions of any other explorer-class ship. Other than being involved in the missions themselves, characters would also have individual arcs and relationships.
OOC Note: The RP itself will be rather similar to the show -- Small, non-universally significant plotlines involving crew missions and relationships, in the form of "Episodes" (Name subject to change. Episode sounds rather gimmicky next to "Chapter" or "Part"). After completion, each episode would be fitted with a synopsis for easier navigation for new crewmembers. Every ten episodes or so, the crew's mission will become rather dire, affecting the plot itself in the long run. The characters themselves will be the Senior Staff/Bridge Crew. As mentioned, the crew will be mostly human, but offer a fair deal of diversity. Players can create a character with one of the races the show has provided, or create their own. This would be aided by tools such as Heromachine 3.0 and PlanetMaker.
