Welcome, UN Ambassador Kael Whitehead.

June 5, 2153
UN Pacific Space Research base
Dorm 763

Subject: Project Beyond The Sun

Dear General Rasad,

You have been chosen by the UN high council to lead an expedition beyond the Solar System to investigate, explore, and colonize new planets in name of the United Nations. You will be supplied with a Star Explorer Mk. 5 and 5 Dawson supply cruisers for this mission. A population of 3,000 people from different cultures, countries, and areas will board the Star Explorer along with 3,000 crew, including soldiers. These Men and Women will populate any new planets you discover. Before exiting the Solar System, the council recommends docking at Hades on Mars, to restock and refuel. Warp Gate 2 has finally reached it's destination and is ready for use. It will take an estimated 12 years to reach the Warp Gate. Launch has been scheduled for April 13th, 2154. We will go Beyond The Sun.

Sincerely,
UN Ambassador Kael Whitehead
In 2088, A German cargo ship spotted a strange glowing object near the west coast of the USA. This object happened to be a buoyant element called Zunion, the discovery of this element had mixed responses. The International Congregation of Science, pleaded with the UN to allow them to study it further and determine possibilities for future use. In 2089, a Californian oil company discovered a huge deposit just off the coast and claimed it in the name of The United States of America...This did not go down well with the rest of the world, thousands of arguments and outrage discussions sprang up that year in the UN meeting. Ultimately, it was decided that any or all deposits of Zunion will be property of the UN, to see how it could benefit.

With the discovery of Zunion, the next 60 years were spent designing and constructing ships that could fly across the stars. In 2138, the first version of the UN Star Explorer was completed and loaded with colonists, and was sent to Mars. It took them 3 and a half months, but they made it without a hitch. This was the beginning of expansive space exploration.

So we would be part of the ship's crew as it passes to its destination?

So a transit RP? If you flesh it out considerably i would be very interested.

As it stands the ideas seems a tad skimpy.

Alright here's the deal peeps. You are part of the crew and/or passengers of a giant expedition ship called The Moonlight as it travels beyond the Solar System to expand our knowledge of space, should the colony find a habitable planet, it will settle there and attempt to contact the UN... in theory.

Yeah, I got the idea out of nowhere and didn't want to forget so I wrote a quick 'Lore Letter' if you will. For the entirety of this RP, everything will take place on the ship ( Maybe I'll do a couple of posts dedicated for when the colony gets to Mars) I will continue to work on the Ideas and will even take suggestions. Hopefully enough people will be interested to where we can get it off the ground.

Couple things, first an element was discovered that permits FTL travel? (I can't see any other reason for a new element and that is the only way to get to other stars) Ok, sounds good enough if you can clear up some issues.

It took 7 years for an FTL capable ship to get to Mars?

Mars is roughly 8-9 light minutes away. Even IRL it does not take that long to get to Mars, excluding FTL technology, ion or nuclear thrusts (ala VASIMR or NERVA) would easily reach mars in five months, and NERVA existed in the 1970-80's while VASIMR exists today.

Heck, even using conventional methods if it takes a year to get to Mars something has gone wrong. Using no constant thrust average travel time is around 250 days.

Beyond your overestimated travel times to Mars I like the idea.
