I can't say I've ever had a moment of getting pissed off at a writing partner. I've had my share of people vanish or lose interest for whatever reason, but actually getting mad at one another? I've only had that happen a couple of times, but that was more of a personal thing rather than anything to do with game stuff. I can't really imagine getting mad at somebody for something that happens with a game, either it works out or doesn't. It would probably be different if I ever write with people with volatile personalities, but so far everyone's been very relaxed and understanding.

I wish I could say the same, my dear. I get the partners who, for instance, if I politely request we stop an RP for any reason, they blow up in my face, throwing insults, blaming me, and just going nuts.

And the thread isn't really about anger 'towards' someone, but that aggravation that builds up over time when partners continue to do things that bug you.

You're lucky if most of your partners have been friendly. It's not the same for others. Many times it just erupts. I try to walk away when I see it happening, but sometimes they won't let go... The type who find every thread you open and begin posting about what a 'bad person' you are because you decided not to RP with them or something of that nature.

I actually had that happen once. A guy wanted to RP, he posted, and clearly didn't read anything on my thread (or was a troll), so I called him out on it. Not in a mean way, but told him he didn't read my thread and that was a bit insulting to me. So, I stopped replying to him because his next reply was rather rude.... He started going into my threads and saying I was a 'B!tch' to the people asking me question and how they shouldn't RP with me, and that I owed HIM and apology...

The mods got involved at that point to make him back off.

Also, how did you guys have the 'aggravation' feeling towards each other (if you want to talk about it)?

Gah, I'd hate that. Maybe it's because I don't really do 1x1s unless it's with people I know and have been writing with for a while, but I think some people just have really unrealistic expectations from their writing partners. Sometimes, things just don't work out. If people can't accept that, then they're getting way too invested.. and in some cases, it can be kind of creepy.

I assume you bring up the peeves with your partners? I understand the whole "you can lead a horse to water" thing all too well, but I think most people are usually receptive to constructive criticism. You don't know you're making mistakes unless people point them out a lot of times.

And I know I'm a special case, but I think a lot of that is I'm pretty selective with who I RP with. I like to get to know people a bit before jumping into something, and I kind of expect a certain standard going into things. Personally, I think in 1x1s for instance just having pairings is inviting trouble unless you hammer out a plot before hand. The best stories, I find, are the ones where you and your partner kind of establish the world and your characters before starting. And if somebody starts ragging on you for being a bad partner in public, I'd report that. Harassment isn't Fonz cool and it isn't tolerated by guild rules.

Yeah, I can DEFINITELY relate to that last point. It's painfully obvious when people don't read the OOC and just post all willy-nilly. I especially enjoy when they use a character sheet that is not the one you provided. Most of the time I find it amusing and call people out on it and mentally blacklist the person unless they're fresh off the boat, but you do need to bear in mind that a lot of 1x1 is filled with people who just see a pairing they like and go from there, from what I noticed there isn't a lot of enforced standards for a lot of it like other sections. I imagine most people just skip down to the game interests and immediately go from there. Once again, if somebody's doing that shit to you, I'd report them to the mods. You don't have to put up with people being immature dipshits, especially if they're tarnishing your reputation because of petty, petty reasons.

Trust me, I think if you hang around here long enough, you're going to have to involve the mods sooner or later, I'm no exception. Some people do not handle rejection well at all; I had one person immediately PM me after I got a mod involved to have her leave the main thread and she started trying to lure me into an argument by insulting my province.

Just assume people are crazy assholes and try not to take it personally; internet anonymity does terrible things to people's morality.

Hehe. Yeah, I am very "READ THE RULES!" in my thread (in a nice way of course). I post the pairing, with a plot, etc. I make it clear what I want in most cases (unless I'm being lazy). And I try to talk to them a bit OOC to get a feel for them. This guy, however, seemed so nice OOC and appeared to be literate to the standards requested.

Personally, looking back, I think he was a troll. lol. One of those people who hate anyone who has a standard. I understand that one needs guidance of some sort to improve, but you cannot expect someone far above your level to just drop down to yours because you feel you 'deserve' it. That's the sad thing. A lot of people THINK they deserve something.

I tell people on some of my threads that, if they want to quit, all they have to say is; "I'm too busy right now to continue this. Sorry." And I won't ask questions. They at least had the common decency to tell me the were quitting and I don't need to question why.

I once had a guy send me an opener. Now, how he wrote was grammatically incorrect and blahblahblah. There were things about how he wrote that just made it not so enjoyable for me to read, alone with the other issue. It wasn't a situation worth going; "Look, this-this-this and that are all incorrect. It should be---". It was how he wrote. I wasn't going to change it.

So, I simply explained our writing styles were too different, and they were. His style was how he wrote. I wouldn't be able to fix it. The grammatical problem, maybe, but the rest, no. It was just how he liked to write. I was very polite in saying it, no insults, no nothing. He erupted on me basically telling me; "You could just tell me I suck!" And so on and so forth. I wasn't insulting him, and far from trying to. It amazes me how people can be so sensitive to the point they react so negatively.

Honestly, that's one reason I posted this. I think being able to rant about bad experiences just helps.

Of course, it's harder to get a mod's help on this version of the site. No report buttons yet. lol.

Yeah, I'm the same way. I have a giantass list of game rules I expect people to follow. If people still apply after that, I'm reasonably sure they're people I can work with happily. :D But yeah, you're doing everything right. You just found the HIV covered needle in the haystack. >_>'

I couldn't play with anyone who DOESN'T have standards. I mean, I'm here to tell a story and write it collaboratively with like-minded people. I think people are just way too quick for instant gratification or are looking for smut or whatever. And entitlement is just the worst. There's literally hundreds of people on this site; it isn't hard to find someone with similar expectations and desires. As soon as somebody has an entitled attitude, I show them the door. I do not have time for that petty shit.

And yeah! That's all anyone should expect. I have when people just leave without saying a damn thing. I hate having to hunt people down. Blegh.

Yeah, you can usually tell if someone's a write off right away. At that point, you politely turn them away. You need to be happy with the people you're writing with and not suffer in silence because you're being polite.

And yeah, some people are really sensitive about their writing. Not much you can do about that other than kind of encourage them to work on it. I think a lot of it comes down to poor self-esteem and using roleplaying as an escape. Being rejected isn't fun, and some people are awful at it.

And by all means, rant away! Happy to be an ear.

Yeah, fortunately I know a few of the mods, so it's pretty quick to get a hold of one if shit's going down. :D

Oh god! How grateful I am for this post. I could probably bitch about everything when it comes to trying to enjoy a good RP with someone. I can't handle people who use the same phrases every post, or say the same thing in the same sentence. "When I saw her, she was eating a chocolate bar when I saw her."

I also can't stand when the characters fall in love immediately, especially when it's a romance based RP. The whole point is to write the story of them falling in love, not them falling in love in the first segment then sex scenes and lovey doveyness the entire time after.

I also hate when you're the GM and everyone brings their ideas to you to be accepted. I am part of the RP too! I want to enjoy some of the mystery and surprises.

Or when one of your close RP partners decides that they are going to take your idea and make it their own just because yours isn't going so well anymore like it did before the site crashed. I had one of the leading RPs and once the site crashed I lost everything, and have yet to find a good group of rpers to bring the story back.

The site now in general just pisses me off. Thanks for letting me Vent.

(Commenting on both posts).

I've had people quit on me, telling me I'm too advance for them. I don't get offended. People shouldn't get offended if I say the reverse.
Not to toot my own horn, but I have four published books and people from different countries waiting on the next ones. I'm not a perfect writer and I have editors for a reason, but I hold myself in an area of creation where I can say; "I am advanced, but I'm not a dick."
Because people get the terms confused, and then people argue what the terms mean. Some people avoid advance people because they think they will be assholes, when it's not true.
I avoid 'elitists', because I have YET to meet one who isn't a dick on multiple sites. That and most elitists have shown to be the "I can use big words and act smart! But any real writer will know I'm using the words wrong, but most people aren't smart enough to notice! I SO SMART! S-M-R-T!"

Lol.

And I agree to the second post, the reuse of phrases and words constantly. I admit I do that sometimes when OOCing, but that's OOC.
Oh, but what I hate more is when you get a partner, and to 'lengthen their post', they just REPEAT everything you already said! That's so annoying! I let it slide SOMETIMES, but it's like; "Dude, I know what I said... Re-posting it in your post for 'length' is not enjoyable..."

I understand where it's used for dramatic purpose. But if I make a paragraph of my character saying something, repeating it in your post just seems pointless... I know what I said. I don't need to reread an entire paragraph of what I JUST WROTE!

Or when you know you've written a great post and you notice the person using what you said in your post just mixing the words up. OHHH that gets me so heated!

I also feel like 'babe' ruins everything in a romance.

I think sometimes the person should look at themselves before putting all the blame on their partner if it seems to occur often.

I agree, many times we must take action to fix the problems we cause, but we are never at fault for people becoming rude or aggressive simply for politely declining to RP or having to cancel a roleplay (unless we are rude in doing so).

Most people, sadly, will not take action when confronted as a problem, but instead place blame.

I have literally been told by a roleplayer to 'kill myself' (the real words used were cruder) because I kicked them from an RP for breaking rules. I'm pretty sure that people like that cannot be reasoned with very easily... They feel entitled and feel they 'have to be right'.

However, everyone can just get a string of bad RPs. Sometimes it's due to someone thinking they are advanced when they aren't, to people simply ditching out without notice due to life becoming too busy or losing interest. It can happen all at once. It's not your fault. Circumstances just suck sometimes.

Yeah, that bugs me. I had something similar with someone today, though not exact. We worked through it though.

Basically, he was very happy, friendly, joking around and posting timely. Then suddenly he isn't posting, he's not as friendly, a lot of one word replies...
I'm constantly asking if he's 'moody' for a reason or if he's okay. He says; "Distracted by this or that."

Today, I state something and he says a one word reply. I ask if he's distracted by his game. He replies that he's not, just doesn't have much to say on it. This having been going on, it sounds more like a loud; "I'm not interested anymore" type of hint to me, so I remove him from my skype. He then says; "Mature..."

So, I begin the long; "Listen, if you don't tell me what's going on, then you are leaving me to assume you are doing the ditch that a lot of people in RP do. It's not like I haven't been asking you what's going on and if you're okay. You've said 'this and that', but never once said; "I have some stuff going on IRL and may need a few days".

After some talking, he agreed to let me know from now on, but I told him I won't contact him until he contacts me first, as that means he's feeling better and has time.

Of course, depending on how long it takes, I may not even care for the RP anymore. It's hard to keep interest in something if there isn't a post for a week or more. You move on...

As for the situation you mentioned, I feel that if someone has the ability to sit on the site and such to OOC, they have time to make a quick post. The worst thing someone can ask is; "Hey, I'm in a hurry. Do you mind if this one is a bit shorter than the average?" If it moves the RP, who cares! Go for it! Just add something! But a lot of people feel that an RP isn't a commitment, and then get mad if you decide to keep going.

I run a business and get a lot of random late notice requests, but I still try to post once or more a day. Sometimes, I just grab my phone and do a post while I am at work if I have the time.

It's funny how people get mad that after they 'won't move for you', they still expect you to 'wait on them'.

I understand giving someone a day, maybe two days in public group RPs. You have to make time for those. One on Ones, you have to give a bigger gab and shit does happen. It's just unfortunate that people forget, especially in groups, it doesn't revolve around them. They CAN be replaced. Every partner can be replaced by someone else. Sure, they may not be as good, but they are posting at least.

I have had partners who I RPed with for years, and then they vanish one day and, no, I cannot replace them, but I can find people to fill the gap they left behind. Those ones are hard to replace, but the ones who are just there for a few posts and then think you should have to wait two+ weeks on them... Well, they aren't that hard to replace with someone else...

It sounds cold, but it's no different than work. If you don't do your job, you get replaced. While RP may not be 'work', people take it seriously to some degree, and it's no fun when it all comes to a screeching long-term halt because ONE person feels everyone else should wait on them because their life is so much more important than others...

Extreme examples of people feeling that way, but I have met them. There are a lot of them unfortunately.

Okay. I have a partner in particular who makes me angry every time we roleplay together.

We became friends before we roleplayed of course. She was my character's sister so we had to build an OOC relationship so it would be easier to RP with her.
I was the one to always initiate an RP and she agreed to them every single time.
But during those RPs, she would only reply to me twice before flaking. I would be left there, waiting for hours and DAYS for a reply. Then a week later, she sent me a message simply saying, "hi ouo"

Okay, hi. I always replied and we'd talk OOCly. I never asked her what happened due to shyness and eventually got over it. Then a few weeks later, I asked to RP again, she agreed, and did the SAME THING. So I decided, "I ain't gonna RP with her anymore."

Just recently she told me she was craving a romance RP and I agreed to it. I thought that since SHE asked ME instead, she wouldn't randomly flake, and we RPed away.
But of course she does the same thing again. I asked her two days later, "Hey, did you reply to my post? Sometimes my Skype acts up & doesn't receive messages until a week later" (yes, we RP through Skype)

I was waiting for a reply and got one. She said, "Nope quq I will in a bit tho."
So I thought I snapped her back into it and waited for the roleplay to commence. She usually (oddly) takes an hour to reply so I patiently waited. Nothing. 2 hours pass. Nothing. 8 hours pass. Nothing. 2 days pass. Still nothing.

And the thing that makes me angry? She is ALWAYS online. Always changing her Skype message status. I know she is there. I DON'T know why she flakes on me. And honestly, it's frustrating. She is even online as we speak but every time I check Skype, I don't get a reply and quite frankly, I am tired of it. Dunno what to freaking do. :I

She is not a member of the Guild, FYI. We met through a private RP forum.

Ask her why she takes so long,if she argues and says back off stop RPing.

=================================================================================
Anyway, I've had a couple of people in group RP's do really unrealistic things in RP's that are meant to be really realistic. One particular person plays psychopathic people, and apparently that means they can do anything completely insane even if they will die easily, though they always survive. People who never die annoy me. If you don't want to die don't put yourself in impossible situations.
