the biggest fucking black widow spider I've ever seen in my life.

It built a web to my dogs' water bowl outside. I caught it in the process of killing and eating some smaller insect and flipped right the fuck out. Proceeded directly to the garage and unloaded about a pint of insecticide directly onto the thing's nest (and the spider directly, of course -- when you can shoot the spider from ten feet away with a spray can, that should give you some idea of how big the spider is).

Black widows are infamously venomous. Given that it's in his dog's food dish, I wouldn't want my dog getting killed by shovong his face in there.

Also most spiders are incredibly timid, and many will not bite even if you're trying to coax them into doing it.

they are venemous, but one bite is not enough to kill an average human

It's enough to fuck with my dog's afternoon, so, it gets sprayed. I leave most of the big spiders alone though. My area is infested with something called a wind scorpion, which look freaky but are actually pretty good to have around..... basically anything that makes it past those guys, is something I need to kill.

Black widows though, I have no mercy. Respect -- but no mercy. I don't want their babies in my house.

Every time I discover a new type of creepy bug I feel happier and happier to live in Saskatchewan. Everything up here that's capable of killing you is a big animal, not some tiny spider assassin with venom that turns human blood into nitroglycerine.

It wasn't about killing the human.

The Black Widow was in MDK's dog's food bowl. It might have hurt the dog.

MDK, the only times you come back to the forum are to freak out about arachnids. What happened to your political opinion spewing? Never thought I'd say this, but I kinda' miss it. I totally do fucking hate spiders though, and congrats on the kill.

The D50 volume for humans for this toxin is between 0.43 and 1.39mg/kg, which is more than a single spider can usually produce, but is considered more than enough to kill a small dog or cat and is still enough to occasionally create a life-threatening condition in some people. -Wikipedia

Yup. Should totally leave the spider the can kill your dog and almost certainly hospitalize you alone because it's totally not in a position to bite MDK's dog on the off chance it would eat a lesser pest.

Makes sense to me! You should go Google black widow bites and let us know if it inspires you to not remove them from your yard.

I've got kind of a lot going on right now actually, so I couldn't care less about whatever the politicians are finger-pointing on now. But I'll cover them in brief: they did it, we shouldn't do anything about it, remember when you all said ______ was stupid for describing this exact situation during the last campaign? Eat crow, then go back to none of this mattering, because complacency is always the best way to be.

This is one area in which Britain excels. The only way I'm likely to be killed is if I run into a wild Glaswegian

I don't know how I would survive around venomous spiders, I can barely stand them here. Also, you can shoot with a can at a spider from ten feet away?

we're talking approximately this size. I've seen a couple of Widows before, but this one was just massive.

Checked back this morning, it's gone. Had a mild panic attack when my dogs started howling, thinking one of them got bit, but it turns out that was just regular howling.
