Some people like to play Dm of the Rings, and have everything set out for them before the RP has even started. She would like my PoTS. an old RP I one tried. lots of death and sex, but also very Railroad, I didn't have anything for my characters to do expect the explicitly laid out plot. So it crashed and burnt very quickly.

Weapon: Jekyll & Hyde- They are a pair of high tech Twin hook blades that can change and transform into a pair of Revolvers. There are two button on the hilt, one to transform the blades into the pistols, and the second one for doing the opposite. When the swords are in gun form, they use Dust to shoot explosive bullets.

Semblance: Luminescence- Oliver's aura allows him to absorb the light from a certain area and redirect it to another place, making the place where he sent the light much brighter. This also makes the area he took the light from extremely dark. This drains his energy quite a bit, so he can only use it about 2 maybe 3 times a day

Color: Black

It's only temporary. The light will only be removed for however long Oliver uses his semblance. The moment he stops the light will return.

Okay but I can already see where you went wrong with that, you need plots and side objectives, you have to think like an RP is an RPG, there should be side quests to fluff the main quest. For example before RPguild switched servers I ran my own RWBY roleplay, however it was poorly timed and fell apart when RPguild switched servers but like a good DM I had a plot laid out with sub plots for my players. The main plot was based after the events of cannon RWBY with the rise of the orginal grimm, ultimatly the party was to reach him and defeat him but I was not gonna reveal that right at the beginning, not I had meat added to the story, the beginning of new students entering the academy, preparations for the hosted tournament between other fighting schools, the investigations of a rise of grimm attacks, the disappearance of veteran Hunters. All of it leading up the discovery of the main plot. I dunno if you ever played a real game of dungeons and dragons but that is kinda how a game is supposed to go.

Blegh, if you have a solid plot, a 'this is what your meant to do' you put a timer on the RP. I have seen some RPs last, three to four thousand pages without the slightest semblance of a plot. Just, people RPing with each other and occasionally having the GM throw them a bone. I think RPs should be more like the game 'Shaiya'. There was, on that game, one quest you needed to do, to get your Legendary Weapon. And the rest where optional, I got to max level while remaining oblivious to half the quests on that game. You should think of an RP as Life. Sure it's good to have goals, but don't focus to intently on them. And no, all my experience in DnD comes from DM of the Rings and other web-comics like that. Never actually got a game of it.

It seems you both have solid way on how to do your RPs, as a D&D/Pathfinder guy I like my RP structured like Jinx said. Its all about personal preference.

Um... dude, the shaiya game description is what jinx described as an rp, there is a big objective, but it's not a binding objective. I've played plenty of DnD and the game structure of a good DM is like this, you are plunged into the world of DnD, you may do as you like but, the world reacts to your actions and the actions of history, like if you play when the magic god died era, sometime in the game you'r magic will go out, and you won't know why, and thats the Main plot, you can choose to investigate and do something about it, but you don't have to. so in my opinion, a good RP needs a plot behind the lines in the darknes to give a sort of, realnes to it, but it doesn't have to bind you. thats my two cents.
