The World of Roulit is an aged planet, though the humans that inhabit it are a relatively young race. It sits on the opposite side of the Milky Way Galaxy from it's sister Earth--the inhabitants will never know each other. Here in the World of Roulit, the atmosphere and gravity are weaker than others, and the planet itself seems to be in ruins. No one really knows how long ago it was, when the planet began to degrade and fall away. The remaining pieces of land float like islands, though there is no water around them. As if held together by an invisible strand, the islands hover above nothing. Now though, the world has become stable, and things no longer shift and fall away as they used to. There are no oceans. Most of the islands are covered in unexplored forest, and have only been inhabited by dangerous wild animals for centuries. Some of the islands are home to mountains, some snow, some sands and most have rivers which carry through the land and plummet off of the edges, into the vast nothingness.

Now is a time, when the humans upon this planet live on three of the largest islands. Each of these three islands are home to a magnificent castle and are ruled over as each it's own kingdom. The castles were built each one to keep and protect a different, magnificent and magical stone. The stones are the last of the magic which resides in the known world, and they are very powerful. One long road connects the three kingdoms, floating between the islands, held in place by a spell of unity. For centuries the kingdoms have lived in peace, but war has just broken out between them. A long time ago, all of the people of the different lands were similar; they were friends and family, they traveled between kingdoms often. But slowly each kingdom became vastly different from the others. It became taboo to leave your home island, and in some families, you would be shunned for doing such. Now the differences between kingdoms has caused them to hate each other. The road which connects them has been destroid. Even if they ever did desire to leave their home island, the people of this world have not yet invented any devices or machines built for flying or traveling between the islands. Only those expert and patient enough to train one of the different flying creatures can travel between islands. Sometimes a few of those with their own beast may be willing to give others a way to travel...for the right price. Each of the Royal Rulers are at war with the others, all of them seeking to capture the precious stones guarded by the other castles, and gain the powers they posses. These gems have corrupted their royal guardians for generations.

It has become far too dangerous for the average person to explore the lost islands. Legend says, that long ago an ancient race of people once lived upon the now abandoned islands, the place known as No Man's Land. They were said to be practicers of magic, and they were those who originally discovered the four magical stones. No one knows why the stones were split, or where the fourth stone resides. The ancient ones are spoken of as a myth. Long ago did the magic die off, along with those ancient ones. There are many different legends about the ancient ones. Some stories tell of the great treasures they found upon the most dangerous islands, and that it was their greed which lead to their demise. Other stories say that the ancient ones lived upon the world when it was a whole land, and the four great stones were what kept the lands together, yet when they were separated, so did the land. Some stories even say that descendants of those ancient ones still live in the deepest forests on those uninhabited islands, and they still practice the old ways of magic. But these, are all only legends.

The road once connecting the cities, now lays broken.

The three kingdoms are very different from each other:

Those of the Rose Island Kingdom are very proper, and usually described by the other kingdoms as being 'stuck up.' They are refined people, who believe in perfection. They are the wealthiest kingdom, so the wealthy people of Rose are able to spend their days practicing the arts and reveling in parties. However, not all in the Rose Kingdom are so lucky. People of pure Rose bloodlines tend to have fair skin and light hair color.

The Rose Castle is an elegant and refined structure. This is a clean and advanced city. Beauty, art and education are of high importance. The buildings are huge and lavish. Most things are painted white and things are made of silver and gold. The Rose Castle is guardian of the Diamond of Abundance: this gem stone provides knowledge and wealth to it's possessor.

The King and Queen of Rose Edvin and Margaret Frederik:

Those from the Eve Island Kingdom are bonded with nature, though the other kingdoms know them only as savage and barbaric. They can be more crude, and simple, however they live with much less impact upon their home island. They are the poorest kingdom, though they never strive to attain material riches like the other kingdoms. People of pure Eve bloodlines tend to have darker skin and hair color.

The Castle of Eve is the most natural of the castles. Here people are exotic and hunt their food. The buildings are made of mud and stone, or wood and are usually built close to the ground. The Castle of Eve is the guardian of the Emerald of Felicity: this gem stone provides protection and healing to it's possessor.

The Sister Queens of Eve Lana and Alba Tolkani:

Those born of the Kantle Island Kingdom are a cruel and domineering race, the other kingdoms know certainly of how they have become an evil and horrid people. Most of the Kantles are focused on learning the art of warfare. The royals are the only wealthy part of Kantle, and those who do not join in the army, are left to waste away on the dark streets, barely able to eek out a meager living. The people of pure Kantle bloodlines tend to have pale skin and dark hair.

The Castle Kantle is dark and looms over the entire city in a terrifying way. This is a cold desolate place with cold and desolate people. All the buildings are black and tall, though most of the citizens live much more poorly than the Royals. The Castle Kantle is guardian to the Ruby of Passion: this gem stone provides strength and power to it's possessor.

The Lone King of Kantle Bolivar Kahler:

The Sapphire of Mystery is lost somewhere deep in the islands of No Man's Land. This gem stone is rumored to provide immortality to whoever possess it, as long as it remains within their possession. There are many abandoned islands of different size and terrain.

There are many in the kingdom who look to different beings as Gods and Goddesses. Most of these beings are believed to have once been Great Ancient Ones from the Days of Magic. Some say they went on to become very powerful Gods and Goddesses, and other simply worship them as their ancestors and powerful humans. These are the days of great beings being spoken of as legends. Yet many pray to them for blessings or favors, and believe that if you do not at least honor the Gods, they will bring woe upon you.

Ragnorik the Mighty, Ragnorik the Sun, God of War and Honor. He is the most powerful of Gods, acting as Lawgiver and Judge.

Dwayna the Merciful, Dwayna the Moon, is the Goddess of Healing and Life, protector of Souls. In fear for her children, when the lands broke apart, she caused the islands to stabilize and float in the heavens.

Lysis and Isis the Twin Sisters, Lysis and Isis the Air and Water Sisters. These sisters are the Goddesses of Deception, Beauty, and Cunning.

Elgar'nan the Vengeful, Elgar'nan the Flame, the God of Fury, Vengeance and War. It is said that he was defeated by Ragnorik in ancient times when Elgar'nan prowled the world as a great dragon-beast, and that Ragnorik's greater flames gave warmth to the world. Elgar'nan seeks and lusts to defeat Ragnorik one day.

Elgar'nan as his ancient form:

Grenth the Putrid, God of Disease, Plague and Death. He is a Half-Beast God of Misery who brings it upon humankind. It is said that he was once a Human, but the tales of how he became a God differ. Some say he killed the original Death God. Others say he cracked the world in a powerful ritual of death. Others say he tricked Dwayna, promising to look after the souls of Humans. Whatever the story, Grenth is Death.

Demi-Gods are powerful beings, said to dwell within no man's lands. They are the tales mothers tell children at night.

Alk'endune is a Beast God. Master of Stalking, Killing, and the Hunt. He is a Savage God who thrills in the kill, bringing down animal and human prey alike. It is said that only Ghilan'dain has ever escaped him.

Ghilan'dain the Forest God. It is said he is a great white Stag, who protects the Forest and Animals.

Sylaise the Devourer. She is said to be a great flying beast who prowls the great nothingness below the islands.

So because of all these many Gods and Goddesses the old wise women will often recite: "To these Gods and Goddesses many prayers are uttered, for favor and blessing, for protection. These you must honor, but do not for a moment forget the others. For if a minor deity or an unknown god, their wrath you incur, woes will be yours. So too these you must also incur favor."

RULES

1. Don't be a control freak. Please no controlling other player's characters, unless you have their permission to do so. But co-writes are acceptable and encouraged.

2. Let's not all be loners. This should be obvious enough, but do make an effort to notice and interact with other characters when possible.

3. Stay or Go. We'd love it if you stay, but if for some reason you know you are about to be inactive or unable to play your character, it would be much appreciated if you would write your character out of the story. This isn't to say I don't understand delays. If there is no activity on your character, you'll be dragged along or ignored as long as possible. But if too much time passes and after unsuccessful attempts to contact you have been made, your character may be written out or killed off. But we'd much prefer if it doesn't come to that.

4. Be reasonable. In dealing with other characters, please be reasonable about the position you put them in. If your character is going to try to force someone into something, when writing, try to leave them a way out if it. And if they manage their way out of the situation, it would be better not to unreasonably continue to harass them.

5. Have fun! If you're not having fun, you're doing something wrong.

NOTES

As a note, I will be posting a narrative at times, as well as my character. The narrative will be for the purpose of addressing large movement in the overall plot, which I will also keep updated in the OOC.

Also, we will be beginning very shortly after the war between nations has begun. I will address this in the introductory post. I would like it if everyone could work into their first post, a little something about how the very beginning of the war impacted and affected their character, whether it was in a direct or indirect way. Otherwise enjoy your writing and posting however you like. I only ask that much because I would really like to kick this off with the full impact of the horror of war.

You may choose to play any sort of character, except for one of the Royal Rulers or an Ancient from No Man's Land. Play as a Citizen, a Knight, a Treasure Hunter, a Gem Thief, a Royal Person, a Commander, a Religious Leader, an Adventurer seeking No Man's Land in search of magic, treasure or the lost stone; or come up with something else interesting!! Just so long as it fits the parameters, we welcome all kinds of characters! The story is up to you!

Name: Zoran-Theia

Age: 26

Nationality: Kantle

Bio: Zoran-Theia has lived a life which has hardened her against the world. Betrayed by everyone and loved by no one. Life has torn her apart and forced her to fight for anything she has ever had. She has learned to put her full trust in no one, but herself. Yet despite her cynical appearance and demeanor, within her lives a lost soul and a broken mind. Credit of her misery is owed to many things: a cold and abusive father, a sickly mother, the psychotic woman who raised her, all those she once tried to love who betrayed her, and the years spent in solitude. It has all left her fragile mind a wreck. She was born and raised in Kantle, and forced by her father to train in the art of combat until she could escape his clutches. Now she lives deep within the darkest parts of the forests of Eve. She keeps the company of a pack of black wild-dogs she brought along with her from Kantle, and one great winged wolf, Tarek. At times she travels into the villages on the outskirts of Eve, to sell medicinal potions and remedies. It would be difficult to describe her in one word, or even many. Her moods tend to vary and change wildly. She is Yin and she is Yang. Neither all bad nor all good, she is a mix of many things. Because of this her opinions may never be consistent, even her personality seems to differ depending upon the situation she is put into. Though she is a loner, she does not avoid others completely, only she never trusts them completely...not anymore. In time she will decide to venture into the dangers of No Man's Land, to find the Magic of the Ancients, driven by her secret desire for revenge. Zoran-Theia is a very multi-sided personality and difficult to sum up, so I guess we'll find out the rest along the way.

Excited to finally get this started.

Name: Drusus Flint

Age: 34

Nationality: Kantle

Appearance:

Standing 6'3 Drusus casts an intimidating shadow amongst many people, however that pales in comparison to his gaze. There is something about the way he stares that drives warriors to falter. As a former knight of Kantle and just generally being a warrior have given Drusus quite the collection of scars, the most impressive one being the brand over his heart. The brand is an oath of sorts, marking the wearer as a servant to the king of Kantle. The brand looks like this. Seeing the unrest and general hostility given to those of Kantle, Drusus has defaced his armor by removing all symbols of Kantle. However it still is the armor of a knight of Kantle, any soldier who has seen them will know the style.

Personality: Unlike the other knights of Kantle who are bloodthirsty, sadistic, and cruel, Drusus was more honor bound and level headed. Because of this he felt like he never truly belonged to his peers, nor did he want to. To Drusus, they were nothing more than thugs and were not worthy to take up the title of knight. However this doesn't make Drusus a shining angel either, he is arrogant and completely confident in his abilities as a warrior, not taking kindly to outside help. Not one to lie, Drusus' word can be taken for what it is, if someone decides to not believe him matters not to him.

Bio: You could say Drusus was born with blade in hand, he was always good in the arts of war and it was no surprise that he became a knight. After many years of service something didn't sit right with him anymore. The raids and battles against soldiers and civilians didn't spark any excitement anymore and his comrades actions were beginning to disgust him more and more until finally he snapped. When him and his "comrades" were told to kill immegrants and raze villages, Drusus wouldn't have any of it. Engaging in battle, Drusus slew his fellow knights and saved a small village. Ever since then Drusus has been on the move, never staying in one place for too long and the sizable bounty keeps his skills sharp with the added bonus of keeping adding to his reputation. For now their is no greater joy in his life than mocking the king of Kantle with his continued existence.

Skills: A superb swordsman, Drusus was the most skilled warrior among the lot of knights of Kantle. The only reason he wasn't in the kings guard was of his differential ideals, the king wants unquestioning robots and not free thinkers. Drusus is also very good at getting what he wants, either through letting his reputation speak for himself or if that fails, using his trademark intimidation to scare people into submission.

Other: Drusus exclusively prays to Ragnorik the Mighty, feeling that Elgar'nan the Vengeful is too petty.

Okita Reimeiroku.

Unmatched in all of Kantle with a longbow, superbly skilled with his sword, he was a soldier of Kantle. Without large sums of money, or bloodlines, there were whispers of him becoming a Knight due to his great skill. Married to a beautiful young woman, a baby on the way, Okita was blessed by the Gods!

It all would end. His small village near the capital was targeted by a dissident group of rebels. Deep in the night he heard the call to arms and quickly went to fulfill his duty. The battle which ensued can not be recalled to this day by Okita. Thinking back to that night brings only the image of his wife burning as she ran out of there house engulfed in flames. Of the axe that sliced her abdomen open, the pain in her eyes, the unborn baby falling from the freshly ripped flesh. The only thing to end the vision is the blinding, searing pain that comes next that he would later learn to be the memory of his left arm being sliced off.

That is the story of Okita the Beautiful, Okita the Skilled, Okita the Blessed.

Name: Doce (pronounced Dose) "Maker" Massik

Age: 25

Personality: Says his mind, even when he shouldn't. Isn't afraid of getting in fights and even tries starting them. Free-spirit and adventurous! He has many stories to tell and doesn't care if you don't want to hear them because he's telling them anyways!

Biography: At the young age of ten, Doce was abandoned by his older brother and father. While most kids his age would've been scared or sad, Doce took his new-found freedom as a blessing from the gods. Training in the arts of stealth and secrecy, Doce became quite the thief and had stolen everything from a small watch to a big horse. At the age of 13 he was caught trying to steal an adventurer's satchel and was severely scolded by the same man who he was stealing from. That man, famous adventurer Derrik Massik, took Doce in as his child and apprentice, teaching him the arts of adventuring down to a fine point. For the next 5 years, Doce and Derrik adventured wherever they could until Derrik could adventure no-longer. Derrik, in the old age of 59, settled down in the Rose kingdom to live out the rest of his days. Doce had his mind set on continuing the adventure and decided to live Derrik in Rose, but not before Derrik gave him one request. "Doce, I'm tired of seeing a broken world with no oceans or unity. Do me one thing before I die; get the Sapphire of Mystery and combine it with the three Kingdom's gemstones to bring this world back to it's former glory." Afterwards, Doce set out on a journey to put the world back together again.

Nationality: Mix of Kantle and Eve.

Appearance: Doce is average height, standing at about 5'8 1/2 with a weight of at least 110. He's not muscly and actually doesn't really fit his own clothes, which are always loose on him. He has dirty brown hair that he keeps moderately clean and proper, darkish green eyes and dirty tan skin. He usually wears a dark green long-sleeved shirt made of a coarse and dry material with a hood that usually covers his head, dark navy pants, a red scarf that covers his mouth, and green-rimmed goggles over his eyes.

Skills: He's a sneaky bastard and has some pretty sticky fingers. He can wield a knife and a sword pretty well, but long-ranged weapons are his weakness.

Favorite Quote: "An adventurer's job is to make a mark on history, so every adventure is the chance to make your's!" ~Derrik Massik

Name: Marren Kolkochi

Age: 22

Gender: Male

Appearance:

Background:

From first glance one would not assume Marren to be Rosilian, let alone part of one of the most prominent families of the city. This is true to a large extent, his ancestry has ties to all three of the island cities, his great-great grandfathers and grandmothers being merchants who accumulated enough wealth and connections to buy themselves and their descendants a place within Rosilian nobility. Still, in the grand scheme of things, put up against long standing families that could trace their ancestry to years and ages past the Kolkochi are young intruders, but they are rich. Well, for now. With the war severing trade between the cities the river of wealth that the Kolkochi had so relied upon had now stopped flowing and the waters would soon turn stagnant.

Marren was the third son, the fourth child in all within the current Kolkochi generation. In his position he was not expected to one day be the head and so he was more free to pursue his own path, though his importance and standing was also that of a fourth child. He grew up learning the arts of dancing, fencing and riding, the latter of which he excelled at. This, combined with his adventurous nature he would take his mount and go on trips to one of the unoccupied islands, much to the chagrin of his family. Through such endeavours he earned quite the reputation as an explorer, or a careless risk taker depending on ones opinion.

The war though changed the course of his life. His father and two older brothers were killed in the first rounds of fighting and now the family is only him, his mother and elder sister who took the reins of a tumbling horse. His mother was struck with such grief that she barely spoke, his sister, once one of the rising stars within the art community now confined herself to her office. Himself, he was grounded, unable to take flight and fixed with the perpetual fear of death after his first encounter with a Kantilian knight that nearly left him without a head.

Now, seeing the fortunes of his family fall, their enemies closing around them and fearing the prospect of the illustrious name of Kolkochi dying and dragged through the dirt, Marren felt he had to do something to reverse the tide.

There you go! <3 I have two characters. Big wink to the original crew. ;)
Name: Ichika Imala-Q'lankä
Age: 19
Gender: Female

Appearance:

Background: Ichika was born on the Eve kingdom island. It is a well known fact that the island is covered with forests and wilderness. On Eve, more than anywhere else, there are people who decides to live outside of the major city's borders. Those people form small tribes that live in complete symbiosis with nature, only going back to the city to buy or sell things at the market. People who decides to live in such a way are, of course, extremely sturdy, and thus, make extremely good soldiers. Then came the war...and the royal family could not wait for volunteers to rise up to the call anymore. Kantle was ceaseless, and the army was too little. Decisions were made, and soon, soldiers went to the tribes one after the other in order to forcefully enroll as many warriors as possible. They claimed it to be in order to serve their nation and please the gods.

Most adults would leave for the war effort, willingly or not. Ichika's parents were among them. The 19 years old girl would have wanted nothing more than to join them, but they refused and said that she was to wait for them here. Wait she did, but it would only weeks later that she learned of their death during the Kantle assault. The road between islands were now shattered, and the world was bound to change in ways none imagined.

Ichika exiled herself deep within the forest upon receiving the news. Such behavior was not abnormal for her people, the forest being like a second home for those who knew it well enough and respected it.

During the time she remained away from her people, a whole year, Ichika met a companion she would later name Kukucan. It belonged to a species living nearby the village, great forest cobras with azure scales and wings able to take them across the skies. They seemed intimidating, but Ichika saw it as a trial from the gods. She tracked the snake days and night until, finally, she found the courage and right moment to approach it. Since that day, they remained together as best of companions, and returned to the village.

Her mind set, Ichika decided it was time to leave the village and go meet the outside world. She would probably take part in the conflict pitting her nation against both others in hope of avenging the death of her parents. It was with a brief farewell that the girl left the village of her childhood for dangers unknown.

Personality: Ichika is a cool-headed young woman that doesn't like to chit-chat for naught. She feel more at ease surrounded by trees than by people, but still show patience and generosity towards other. Ichika do not stand being seen as weak, or insulted, and will seek her own retribution against people who dare show her such a lack of respect. The memory of the war, and her parents, is strongly rooted within her...she hold a solid grudge against anyone from Kantle despite never having met one before.
Name: Maria Gilder
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Nationality: Rose

Appearance:

Biography: Maria's father was a simple merchant, while her mother passed most of her time at home, being weak from birth. She also had a big brother, whom she saw as a mentor for most of her younger years, despite the fact that he also inherited from their mother's hereditary illness. Theirs was a very poor family, trading having deteriorated greatly during the years the war was brewing up. Their village was situated near the very border of Rose great island, home to mostly poor population, among Rosarians standards of course. As they grew up, Maria was the one helping her father and mother around the family home. She also stood up many time in order to protect her sick brother against all kind of bullies. Despite the hard times, she knew how to smile and be happy. No matter how little her family could give her, she'd take it with a great, honest smile.

Then came the day when her brother was forced to join up the military. The higher cast predicted the emergence of an unavoidable conflict and wanted to be ready for it by recruiting as most as possible, firstly among the poor ones. The Rose army was the only bully Maria had no chance in standing up against, and despite the protests of their parent, her brother Marco left. Time passed and the family eventually received a letter saying that Marco fell ill and was now taken care of in the capital. Maria was the only one that could make the trip to the capital, so it was with haste that she prepared and left. She arrived to the capital only to be told she was unfortunately a day too late, and that her beloved brother had passed away already. The training proved to be too much for his condition.

However, Maria's misfortune did not stop there. Shortly after, the ''Day of Night'' happened. Her village was one of the many victims of the ferocious attack form Kantle. It had been razed. Saddened beyond reason, Maria did the only thing that seemed reasonable at the time; join the army. Despite her painful experience, Maria showed no weakness to anyone and proved to be a a good soldier. A very good soldier, in fact, one of the best the captain of her regiment had ever seen. Her will was made of unbreakable steel. Her determination to succeed was noticed by superiors and, it took only weeks before she had her first promotion. Between her perfect obedience of the code, as well as her skill to lead with an iron fist, Maria quickly became the the right hand of a high ranking general. Her incredibly fast progress through the ranks of the army owed her a nickname from the soldiers under her command; Steel Lady. None of her decision was impacted in any way by any kind of emotions, at least none that she would show.

Personality: Cold and emotionless would be how most people describe Maria. However, and despite the nickname she was given, those soldiers under her direct leadership began to better understand their Lieutenant and realize that she, in fact, was a sensible person.

Galen Gallatin
Twenty First Count of the City of Urik

Age: 28

Patron Goddesses: Lysis and Isis

Home Island: Kantle

Personality: Cunning almost to a fault, Count Urik is known for his ability to manipulate and control. It is his obsession with personal advancement that causes the man to throw himself into his work with such vigor. To help offset his otherwise almost maniac personality, he has spent time constructing and rehearsing a sort of off-color facade that he uses projects to hide his more devious/atrocious tendencies.

Biography: A man known throughout the court of Kantle for his sly mixture of persuasion and intimidation it can be said that in many respects it is Galen's tongue that is his sword. Born as the first son of the previous Count of Urik, Galen has known a life of backroom betray and back-alley bloodshed. Learning the tradecraft of politics from a young age, he chose the path of a cleric to escape the rather brutal trappings of Kantle court life. His adolescent years were spent in the service of the clergy, mastering oration and philosophy before moving on to more important things like mass manipulation through organized religion and how to head off popular rebellion by appealing to the religious purity of the poor, unclothed masses.

At the age of 22, Galen's father died and as his only heir Galen inherited the title of Count of the city of Urik. Deciding that he'd had enough of religion, Galen used this expected landfall to launch himself into the field of politics where he excelled beyond all others. It did not take long for Count Urik's numerous subversive exploits to become known to the ruler of the land, King Bolivar Kahler. Kahler however decided that the scheming noble's violently inflamed ambition could be put to good use and instead of executing him began to cultivate Count Urik into a cunning and useful adviser.

Etcetera: His time with the clergy has caused Count Urik to become a deeply religious man although he will never admit it.

Think I got something planned for Maria already! Solemn, I bet you have a plot, but can we devise our own side plots since we all are in different parts of the world for now?
