I think that the way this was written, the way it occurred was just wrong on so many levels that we should retcon the whole thing.

So what do you suggest? A rewrite would be a rejuvenation of the situation, allow more characters to get involved, etc.

At this point I don't know what to tell you-- a roleplay isn't something that is prone to rewrites after ten or so posts in. It doesn't rejuvenate, all it does is cause headaches.

Why not just have Talon escape for now, so he can try out a new strategy later?

the outright easiest thing to do for the RP as a whole would probably be just to have him escape and leave, chalk the whole thing up to early-on weirdness I guess, since it would necessitate no change and wrap things up, at least. then you could either outright scrap the character, re-purpose him as a villain or try and have him figure out a better way to join the Titans.

It necessitates no changes, wraps up the scene for people it might be giving issues to, and gives you time to plan what to do next.

Also, if Sloth ended up dropping Nightwing would it be a good idea to facilitate Nightwing going away from the group (like the other founders sans Roy) or would it be preferred if he was a dedicated NPC? or picked him up? (I mean I'd hate applying for two Titans characters, but I'd do it if it meant keeping the game in order if Sloth lacks the energy for it).

For some buddy-buddy fun I could do Nightwing, and it would be convenient for me to plan arcs by playing as the field leader. Assuming Sloth doesn't post by the deadline.

A man with humilty and awareness of his missteps will only improve and become better rather than the man who has never achieved failure thus does not analyze himself or his craft.
