You conveniently leave out all the events that led up to that. Light was forced to start working together with others, delegating tasks to lesser humans and all that, as the net slowly closed in around him. Near exploited that (and Light's growing arrogance and megalomania) to catch him. I thought it was clever.

Yeah, I, again, just stopped watching after a certain point, lost interest.
So I went and watched the ending. If I wanted to complain about it I should have watched it fully.
Maybe someday.

I'll only say this about death note season two. While it exists and it may be canon for me the series ended at season one. How Near won in the end was stupid to be honest. Light didn't 'lose' he got screwed by the people who followed him.

Which was kind of the point. The further in Light got, the more he began to trap himself and see himself as untouchable. His hubris in believing he was literally a God is what fucked him over in the end because he constantly underestimated his adversaries.

End of season 1 wasn't even really his victory as it was a stroke of like that Rem did his dirty work for him to protect Misa.

Second seasons are aways disappointing. I only watched two episodes of SOA's second season and I had to stop because it was so dumb. They should've stopped, I liked the ending of the first season, it could easily have been the end of the anime.
