*I roll my shoulders as I cut off the buggies engine. Stepping out of the vehicle, I stride up to a pair of rusted metal shutters turned doors, and enter a seedy establishment called the Raven's Lament*
Hmm. Quite the fancy name for such a shitty looking place. Still, as long as they have clean beds and private rooms I couldn't care less about what it's called.*Crossing over the threshold, I stride into the establishment, causing every eye in the place to turn towards me. Noting my revolver and sword however, neither of which I took much care to conceal, the bars patrons quickly went back to nursing various foul looking beverages. Ignoring them I made my way over to the main area and greeted the owner, a burly looking man clad in a stained grey tank top and black patchwork pants with several tattoos on his arms and face*
Bar Owner: *Walks over, wiping down a dirty glass with an even dirtier rag* What can I get for ya?
Yeah, you got any beds?
Clean ones?
Owner: Uh yeah, got some back rooms. One of em should have a clean bed in it. Or at least one that's bug free anyway.
Good. Mind checking that for me though, just to be sure?
Owner: *The man gives me an sideways look, but eventually nods, moving out from behind the bar area and making his way to the back rooms. He returns a few minutes later* First room on the left. Can't miss it.
*I nod, tossing him five Eyes-the standard currency used by those now forced to eke out an existence in the war torn ruins of the old world-the dull charcoal colored coins eyelike design serving as the inspiration for its name, and make my way to the room. Closing the door, I walk over to the dinky spring mattress sitting at the rooms center and sprawl out on it, holding up my hand to examine the ring before eventually starting to fiddle with some of the bands starting with the third one. Twisting it clockwise until it clicked, as the Anarchist leader had done hours earlier, and the ring glowed blue once more. Flicking my gaze between the other two bands, I let my free hand hover above them briefly, before deciding to test out the second one. The first band I'd already seen the effects of, that being slowing of time or some such, but this one was an unknown. It could do anything*
Well, only one way to find out...
*I go to rotate the band, when the sounds of a commotion coming from an alley outside my room window catches my attention. Getting to my feet, I walk over to the small transparent rectangle and peer outside to see a
woman with fiery red hair lying on the ground, a puddle of crimson liquid slowly pooling out from her seemingly lifeless form. Sighing, I take a moment to consider the situation before deciding to investigate*
Damn shame that is, but maybe she was carrying some extra supplies I can salvage.*Making my way outside, I enter the alley and approach the woman's limp form, keeping my head on a swivel in case whoever attacked her decided to lie in wait and pick off sympathetic passerby. Moving in closer, I take the satchel from off her shoulder and open it, rummaging through its contents but finding nothing of any real use other than some ammunition for the rifle she was carrying and a letter addressed to one of the mayors of a nearby city. Replacing the items in the satchel with a slight sigh, I turn my attention to the woman herself, who is fading in and out of consciousness. She's fair skinned, with blue tattoos along her arms reminiscent of old Celtic designs, and of course fiery red hair done up in a dreadlock style. As for her clothing, she was wearing a sort of vest short hybrid with a white button-up shirt underneath, torn leggings, rugged looking boots, and a blue scarf with some additional ammo belts and two leather packs wrapped around different parts of her body. Placing my hand on her shoulder I cast my gaze off to the side, unable to meet her glassy eyes*
Injured Woman: *She spits, sending a fine red mist into the air* So... you've come back to finish the job eh? Well... what're you waiting for? Do it already you worthless piece of shit. Put me out of my fuckin misery...
*I turn my gaze back to her*
Hmm. She must think I'm one of her attackers. Must be early delirium from rapid loss of blood...*I sigh, remembering the ring on my other hand, its etchings still emitting a bright blue glow. I give her shoulder a brief squeeze as I remember my interrupted experimentation with the second band. Staring at the cylindrical device, the gears in my mind begin to turn until an idea pops into my head. A crazy idea, but an idea nonetheless, and one that just might work if I guessed right about the secondary bands function. If I had guessed wrong well... looks like I'd be burying someone else today*
Hold on, I might be able to save you.
*Manipulating the second band, I rotate it all the way down to ten just to ensure I have enough time to prepare and wait as the world bleeds into a mess of running colors, sights, and sounds. What feels like several minutes later my vision and the world returns to normal and I find myself crouching in the middle of the alley, the woman gone. Moving over to a nearby dumpster, I engage my suits active camo system and wait once more. Several minutes later the woman from earlier comes tearing through the alley, the sounds of pounding footsteps following close behind along with several aggressive sounding shouts*
Mysterious Woman: *She runs down the alleyway, eventually coming to a halt and spinning round, pulling her rifle from off her shoulder, loading it, and then aiming back down the way she came. Squinting as she aimed down the sights, she waited, taking measured breaths* Come on... come on... I'm ready for you ya bastards. Come at me.
*As she says this, several men armed with short blades come bounding round the corner. I watch as the woman opens fire, taking a few of them down, but not before they manage to close the distance. It was at this moment that I made my move. Rolling out from behind the dumpster, my camo still active, I unsheathe Abezethibou and get to work. Moving past the woman, I cut take down the man closest to me with a quick swipe to the throat, before incapacitating the next with two swift slices to the back of the knees, and finally taking down the last one by stabbing through the right side of his ribcage. Wiping the blood from my blade I calmly slid it back into its sheathe, deactivate my active camo, and turn my attention to the woman*
Mysterious Woman: *She blinks, shock evident on her face* Wha? How? *She shakes her head, lowering her rifle a bit* You know what, never-mind, it doesn't matter. What does matter is me getting to Alebridge as soon as possible. I have important documents for Mayor Pennington. *She raises her rifle, this time training it on the remaining survivor and pulling the trigger, dropping the man* Thanks for your help though... uh...
Cyrox. Cyrox Orin.
Mysterious Woman: *She nods, slinging the rifle back over her shoulder, before flicking some dirt off her vest* Ah. Eva. Eva Blackburn. Thanks for the assist.
*I nod*
No problem.
Eva: Well, I need to get going. Official business and all. *She strides past me with a brief two finger salute before exiting the alleyway and disappearing from sight*
*I watch her leave, my heart racing. Not because of any physical attraction, but because of what I had just managed to do. I had, with the assistance of the ring, changed the past and effectively brought someone back to life. As a matter of fact I was so preoccupied with the sheer unbelievability of it all that I didn't even notice the world silently bleed away and return, leaving me alone in the alley that was both similar and different than before. Looking down at the band wrapped around my finger, I felt my mind reel at the possibilities as I stumbled my way out of the alley and back into my room. Collapsing onto the bed, I held my hand above my face and stared at the ring in awe, pondering all the ways in which I could use such a powerful tool...*
