<Snipped quote by Balance>

*Throws a punch at the air straight down toward it, and the geyser is parted directly down the middle such that it goes around me. The force continues down until it cuts through the entire geyser and sinks into the ground itself, cracking the earth for a great distance around. It can be felt as though a mild earthquake occurred for a great distance around*

*When the sound of the crack blasts through the air, two great hands clap around the geyser, which is spraying around you, to smash it into you, but I pop out of the earth, wobbling and looking woozy* I promise I'm not actually sick! *The hands clap again*

I've also seen how even "uncivilized" worlds have found the most creative ways to use every single resource.

Sure, it does go both ways.

But who gets to decide what beings have too much or too little?

It's not a matter of who decides, it's a matter of how much can reasonably be used. Hoarding food you can't possibly hope to eat until it goes bad while others starve, just as an example. Holding onto resources greedily that you won't use is why so many suffer.

What if having that much is part of what brings them joy? Taking that away would rob them of that.

*Beams of light shoot out from between every crack of the fingers and arc toward you, coalescing in front of you and materializing into me moving toward you blindingly quickly, and in the same motion I slam both my feet into your torso in a dropkick like manner. I flip backward once after delivering the blow and land on my feet, standing on molten rock as though it were solid*

It's not as important as necessity. But to find joy from that and only that would be a problem.

Because their joy doesn’t matter more than others’ lives.

They're not directly responsible for the harm of others. It'd be different if they were stealing food or something.

How isn't that direct?

Because not living in poverty doesn't directly cause the misfortune of someone else. Someone being so far from trouble that they have the luxury to waste food is a good thing.

Not when they could help others with the opposite problem.

Are they obligated to give away the things they own?

Legally? No, not usually. Morally? I'd say so, under those specific circumstances.

People starving while you're throwing away the resources they need is incredibly harsh and unsympathetic.

Maybe, but then you're asking them to go out and make that change themselves. It's not as simple as throwing an apple to someone instead of throwing it away.

Why is it their responsibility? That's impractical.
