Let me put it this way. If you live forever, then you could at one point conceivably do everything you ever wanted to do and then some. Meaning you've done everything. I ask you... Then what? Put yourself in a situation where you've done everything there is to do hundreds of times, seen everything there is to see hundreds of times. Some people may like that, but personally it feels empty. Death is a natural end to things. Everything has an end and for some that's comforting. Maybe it doesn't make sense for you Lily, you technically can live forever if I understand correctly. But for mortals, we age, we slow down, we look at things and their meanings change or even degrade over time. We enjoy novelty. But if you've done literally everything in life more than a hundred times, could you honestly say that you could enjoy it? This also means knowing that everyone around you will eventually wither away too. It's a macabre way of looking at it, but death is a friend, it helps us respect the fragility of everything, and understand that every action has a consequence. Beings that live forever tend to forget that. Then again I'm a poetic romantic that sees beauty in even the most macabre things.

The reasoning is simple if you stop and think about what immortality really means. It's not about wanting death, it's not about dying either. It's accepting that there is a natural cycle to things, it's about the appreciation of time, it's about the appreciation of the finite, the appreciation of finality.

To answer your question in the most direct way possible, there is no difference if you think about it. Only the time in between each death. My question is, which life would've been more meaningful? If I died now, I could at least say I'm satisfied... I fought until the last. If I died later, perhaps I'd still be satisfied... But for a different reason entirely. The exercise of life is to find purpose, death keeps us honest and makes sure that purpose is worth it. How many people do you know could make use of their immortality? Many gods from my realm failed hilariously. I can't really see immortality as a good thing.

When you're alive, you can still try to make your life worth something. When you die, you're out of options. It's over. You're slowly forgotten until you never existed in the first place. That's a fate I have no interest in.

Not if you make your life a memorable one and especially not if you pass your skills and stories down to the people worth it to you. Perhaps that's your purpose in your life, to become as memorable as possible. If that's the case, then Lily made the right choice being interested in you. You've got greatness in your eyes I think. You shape the world with every action, even your words will have impacts on people who will either be inspired or dismayed by them. Their actions will be influenced by yours. Monuments, civilizations, all of them are built upon the backs of little things. If my life is finite, I'd rather die knowing that while my being may be forgotten, through my deeds, the world that I leave behind lives on.
