Like, seriously, semi-colons are the easiest thing ever. If you have two independent clauses that you want to put in the same sentence, but aren't really related enough to use conjunctions, just stick a semi-colon between them and bam. Here's an example:
Tokyo is Japan's largest city; it is filled with industry and is part of the largest metropolitan area in the world.
Basically, never use only a comma to join two independent clauses.
