I'm nearly crying from happiness.
For the 15th anniversary and year it's set in, .hack has the entire G.U. collection being remastered and released for PS4 and PC. Hopefully they'll remaster the original .hack//Games too soon so people can use their data in GU like in the originals, but still, this is the greatest thing.

Yeah, that's believable. Still not the longest running period, but the longest continuously running, sure. Even more reason why this is horrible.
At least the .hack news is helping take the edge off. If New Order was announced to be for Vita release, that would help too, but for fuck's sake why couldn't they at least make it to 300 and give it a proper ending instead of trying for a bullshit indefinite hiatus in the middle of an arc? God damnit.

You don't need to play the first four games to get G.U. It's a sequel but honestly it's better to play it before the //Games. Knowing what happens in them makes certain things better, but they're relatively minor. You might not even run across one of the characters, and learning the cool tie-ins with the //Games after beating vol.3 is almost better than knowing them beforehand.
