I don't like ends open to interpretation. It feels lazy to me, in most cases. Although I wasn't really left trying to figure anything out in the story, likely because you wrote it in fifteen minutes.

He was the leader of a resistance. "Maybe no one would have had to die." He was a criminal in the eyes of the bad people (but not in the eyes of those in the resistance [but still actually a criminal]).
