“The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting.”

Nation Sheet Reviews

Compendium

Introduction

This roleplay takes place across the Milky Way Galaxy, millennia into the future. Strewn all across the arms of the galaxy are a vast array of civilisations. Large aggressive military dictatorships, great kingdoms, intangible hiveminds, AI conglomerates and many others traverse the space between the stars; colonising, trading, exploring and waging war. You enter this roleplay at the helm of one of these great nations. You and you alone will dictate how future generations of your own species and others will reflect on this period of your history. Will you be a footnote or a chapter? Only two factors can determine this; time and you.

Our story begins during a time of relative galactic peace. However, no such inaction can be permanent. Small upstarts are attempting to stake their claim to a patch of the stars. Ideological terrorism and schism is on the rise. Many nations are simultaneously reaching or nearing AI and technological singularity.
More worrying than any of this is a pattern emerging among many nations of frontier planets seeming to simply drop off all communication. Reports from outer colonies speak of outposts going completely dark and entire systems seeming to disappear. Governments are under increasing pressure to discover the culprits and some are quick to point blame at old enemies leading to increased friction in galactic political scene.
However, the truth behind the matter is far more sinister than one would imagine…

Our Antagonists

The Transorganic Alliance Party

Aside: The Flag of the All Party; The symbol of the all party, the Zomay represents the three pillars of the party, and the state. These tenets are Innovation, Revolution and Security. The Zomah is emblazoned on a blood red black round that symbolises both the Transorganic blood spilt by the former Imperium but also the necessary evils committed by the All Party to carve out a place for its members. Also adorning the flag is a section of the first software programme written that successfully mapped a sentient mind and translated the information to a computer. The programme’s section is represented in an updated binary format. To the All Party it represents their history and paved the way for all manner of Transorganic revolution and advancement. It is often referred to as the ‘seed’.

Brief History
The Transorganic Alliance Party, commonly just referred to as the Party, or the All Party began life as a political movement in the Arcturus Imperium several decades before its collapse. The movement was started among middle-class traders and among former veterans and current soldiers. These people shared one thing in common, what they viewed as 'forced' cybernetic augmentation at the hands of the Imperium. Whether physically forced as part of their service or economically forced by circumstance, the founding members of the All Party fought for the rights of the early transorganics. The All Party accepted organics and non-organics alike calling for a new societal integration. It was however, a difficult fight to have in the oppressive Arcturus state. The Imperium began cracking down hard on the Party and overtime began punishing regular citizens for even a murmur of collusion with the organization. This dogmatic crack down only fanned the rebellious flames amongst the oppressed transorganics, leading to greater angst.

Necessity called for greater measures and over the decades the Party became associated with more radical movements, eventually becoming synonymous with transhorganic terrorism. Although terrorism is an act, not a cause, many looked past the growing militant ambitions of the All Party and flocked to its banner across the Imperium. As more and more people felt the biting need to transcend their organic shackles, the influence and threat posed by the All Party grew significantly.

The Imperium’s difficulty proved to be the Party’s opportunity. For years it had laid dormant, working secretly, communicating through back eddies of the intranet, organising plotting and waiting. As the great collapse of the once so grandiose empire began, the Imperium crumbling under the weight of its own arrogance, the Party saw its opportunity to strike. Thousands of transorganics took up arms and revolted from within as the Imperium struggled to survive against attack from the outside. The largest part of the uprising took place on Vastoria, an industrial powerhouse of planet that was key to the Imperium’s shipbuilding and computing industries.

Within weeks Vastoria lay in ruins as the numbers revolting rose from thousands to millions. The Imperium faced an insurmountable challenge in reclaiming the world already stretched thin across all fronts. It set its sights on larger dangers and abandoned Vastoria to the All Party who renamed it Valhalis, an old word for paradise.
As the Imperium was vanquished the All Party became the sole leader of Valhalis and began spreading to the two other inhabited worlds in the Wolf-337 system, Jargen and Halfor, since renamed Anhilt and Saarstun since peaceful Party occupation nearly two centuries ago.
The All Party has since spread vastly beyond Wolf-337 but only has minor colonies and stations outside their home region.

Species: Transorganics

Official Doctrine Of The Glorious Transorganic Nation Of The All Party said

The next step in the long history of evolution, we are unbound by biological shackles. Our thoughts are not limited by organic constraints. We are nothing more than our consciousness acting through a vessel. You the glorious people of our nation are among those who have seen the truth; we deserve only the finest vessels. Those bestowed upon us by nature are fragile and inadequate when we have scientific truth, knowledge of a better life. We are not classifiable by the archaic nomenclature of outdated organics. We are transorganics. We are the future.

Nation Traits
Perks
Disciplined~Loyal~Efficient
Underneath a veneer of freedom and rights the All Party is even more dogmatic than the Imperium was only it uses far more subtle yet more effective methods. The Grand Council has the ability to systematically manipulate the software of any and all citizens, but it finds it more cost effective and satisfying to use more old fashioned methods. From the day a child is ‘born’ in the birthing labs to be delivered to successful applicants of the PAT (Parental Aptitude Test) to the day it dies, it is bombarded by propaganda disguised as truth hidden in the robes of free market advertising. The All Party is just and true, the Grand Council is all knowing and righteous and organics are destitute, primal and evil. This creates a military that is unwavering in cause and a populous unflinching in support through a natural means. Of course, direct manipulation is necessary; here and there.

Naval Force
Valhalis’ history as a naval outpost and manufacturing powerhouse of the Imperium meant that from the outset the All Party had access to resources necessary to make it a noticeable naval power among the countless fledgling factions left in the ruins of the Imperium.

Flaws

Free Thought
Recently more and more outside software has begun making its way into the All Party’s domain. This external manipulation encourages individual thinking and in recent years revolt has begun to become an issue. Although the general populace is acutely unaware of this.

Traditional Or Outdated?
The biggest secret within the All Party is that the Grand Council member that sit today are the same ones which sat when the All Party came into its own. The bi-annual elections are an elaborate government hoax. Thus leadership in the Party domain is stagnant. Despite their intellectual advantage over organics, it still means that it is only the same individuals in power and fresh ways of thinking or radical change is nigh on impossible.

Xenophobic
The All Party has an irrefutable hatred of organics, derogatorily ‘squishies’, and thus has quickly earned a massive amount of hatred itself.

Technological Overview
Giving total freedom here as I know this is where a lot people come into their element. If you’re unsure of tech levels, reference the FAQ and Basic Info below or just ask me.

Basic Guidelines And Answers to FAQ

• First off, tech level. Anything goes with me as long as you can at least somewhat explain it or ground it in real physics/science. Don’t worry too much about anything you have being too OP or anything else anyone has being OP as this will be limited simply by the actual roleplay. Too often people say ‘no that’s too good.’ Well it won’t really matter if it’s never actually used.

• Next up and on a related note: FTL speeds. The best way to explain this is in terms of distance and time instead of actual physics. Those who wish for actual numbers, which I can provide can ask but just for now I’ll use distance/time examples to demonstrate. This is subject to change after group discussion.
o System-System: Minutes-Hours
o Inter-Regional: Hours
o Region-Region: Hours-Days
o Inter-Quadrant: Days
o Quadrant-Quadrant: Days-Weeks
o Core-Arm End: Months

• With regards to standards. This is an advanced RP as such I expect high quality grammar and syntax. Vocabulary doesn't bother me too much, I’d prefer a well written post with limited vocab over one sprinkled with an unnecessary abundance of synonyms. As for length. I tend to post around the 1000 word mark each time but that’s not a limit or minimum. Do what feels comfortable for that post. Plot and character development is far more important to me than text walls. That said if you've a cool solo piece go for it

• Now I already mentioned time limits for posting to try and keep things fluid. As such I am going to attempt to enact one now. Ten days from now, August 24th, will be the deadline for nation sheet submission and background building at least for the time being. IC posting will start in earnest then.

• Last for now but by no means least: HAVE FUN

So ya guys the lack of formatting has made this info much harder to present in a pleasing format but I did my best. If there's anything you think is off just shoot.

@Serp I have a human subfaction so give it a look and I'll edit it to fit in with your nation.

History and Culture (and some other things) remain under construction!

An Oathbound Manifold

Technology: The Stoor Manifold has no true technology as it would be properly thought of by most other species. The Stoor exclusively use organic constructs to mimic the utility and function of technological devices used by other factions. Their natural tendency to manipulate genetic structures and the high abundance of heavy elements in their home system have made the Stoor unparalleled in the realm of genetic engineering, and they specialize in using organic constructs to exploit principles of nuclear physics.

Military Structure: The Stoor military is made up of 625 divisions, with 300 for the regular army, 300 for the naval forces, and 25 serving as elite forces. A number of civilian forces control all military wetware, while the Complex acts as military command.

Ok yeah this is disgusting to look at. I want the old forum back just so I can layer hiders inside hiders again.

My sheet is undergoing renovations to accommodate missing information that Darkmatter indicated might be helpful for others if present. However, functionally, the sheet is largely finished saved for flavor text and fluff.

Race
There are three primary member and three lesser races currently though the Hau are still the dominant and most numerous making up just over 43% of the total population.

Dominant Culture
The Hau race has dominated the union from day one. Their beliefs on personal and family honor as well as undying duty to the union itself has shaped every aspect of any members people so far.

Moral Values
The Union itself has a strict moral code revolving around personal and societal honor. The more one accomplishes in life, the better that ones life will be. As all people have basic provisions guaranteed, those with high 'morals' would have the manors and estates, The ones with high standing within the military due to actions, are the ones that captain their star ships and lead the armies. The ones with no honor from committing crimes are normally relocated to mining facilities where they have a single chance to regain their honor. If that fails, they usually find themselves in a dark hole in some corner of the nation. Even though they may be mourned by family, families know that the nations well being comes first.

Military Technology
Hau technology in general has always advanced from military applications. The Interactive holographic displays used in homes for streaming news or entertainment was originally a high end ship damage control system, to give crews a actual visual of the area before going in or for salvage teams unsure what to look for inside a ship. 'Matter Replicators' that can turn basic powdered ingredients into a full blown meal within a minute, came from a solution to ship food supply problems. Even the way-gate systems Hau use for transportation is based on earlier military rapid response technology.

Below is more prolific technologies that the Hau have developed for their continued advance across the stars.

History

When humans were looking to the stars, the time of realization that they weren't gods but rather bodies far off, when they discovered that their world was not the center of the solar system, The Hau were already landing on their first moon to use as a spring board to the rest of their system. It's well known among Hau that the expansion into space could have occurred decades sooner but they had a problem bigger than any doomsday weapon at the time, Males.

During the Hau's long history, the males lead it down the path of destruction. During a final battle of what would be a seventh world war and millions lay dead over the course of ten years, an unlikely uprising came about. Females rose from the ashes and with a quick and heavy-handed action, took down most of the major nations. The males weren't happy and as they were prone to extreme violent reactions, tried to take their world back. It was futile though as females at this point, after so many had died, outnumbered males three to one. The males were eventually, over many generations, sidelined to a role of mating utility and after a few more decades, somewhat rose to a better social status. The females however, had every right to veto anything a male would do and males were also not allowed to be in any position of power.

With the females in charge, many weapons of mass destruction were dismantled and the world basked in an unbelievable unity and with it, came quick expansion to space. With the resources of the solar system at their command, Hau spread like wild fire through their immediate region of space. sleeper ships would fly many light years to reach a new world, to spread the Hau's influence. As technology progressed, they discovered and created many new technologies like the way-gate systems and how to use 'Ahn' space to traverse long distance faster than most FTL drives.

The Hau continued their quick expansion in all directions and for a time, started to believe they were the most advanced race in the universe. Time would prove them wrong when they encountered humanity, Definite first contact story, yet to be gone through with sigma

With their advance east halted, they began focusing those forces in other directions. In the north, the Hau would hit another roadblock in the form of the insectoid 'Karkosians 'and like the humans before, First contact could have went far better. It all started during a Hau expedition to a new system. The star itself had a number of worlds and moons but nothing very prolific to most. The area was in Hau interest though due to proximity to other potential nearby stars. Work was nearly complete on a way-gate when a new force had entered the scene. It turned out the Hau weren't the only ones set on colonizing this system and the following combat almost turned it into a war zone.

A Task force sized fleet (Relative to Hau standards) had entered the systems outskirts during mid-day on the Hau colony. Sensors had detected the fluctuation from their FTL drives and were actively tracking the ships advance. It wasn't long before their sensors were blocked though, and communications severed. Were they an invading race? Pirates? Turned out these Karkosians believed the Hau were the latter of the two. The Hau only had pioneer ships and they were small in number, enough that they knew no matter how hard they fought, it would end in defeat. The colony was ordered to fortify and prepare a probe with a hard-coded message, a request for help if the probe would make it out of the system to begin with. As the Hau flotilla sped towards the enemy fleet, the base began setting up area shields and heavy weaponry to hopefully defend against the incoming foe but before they could even prepare the probe, they could see wreckage burning in to the atmosphere like fiery rain. As the Way-gate itself wasn't operational yet, they knew it wouldn't stand a chance either but seeing as it was on the dark side of the planet, they couldn't see the bright flash from its explosion. At this point, the colonists had nowhere to run as this enemy force now controlled the skies.

These Karkosian ships moved to a point that they were visible in low orbit, at least a few were. With that sight, ground batteries began firing up but they knew that if the warships failed fighting the Karkosians, their ground batteries would be like throwing paper clips at a steel wall, hoping to tear it down. As dusk set in, tracers could be seen everywhere as the batteries tried shooting down drop ships that were landing in the distance. Its unknown if any were damaged or destroyed but even if so, it wasn't enough to stop the far superior force these Karkosians brought to the field. Within hours the bases shield was destroyed and gunfire erupted in the outskirts of the small colony. Layers of walls, some built as static defense and others that were hastily set up, had mounted heavy machine guns and deployed light armored vehicles mounting small caliber weapons. They got a few kills in before the enemy force pulled out completely. It was then that the Hau forces got the message to stand down or be destroyed. At first they laughed and opened fire again but after more casualties and the arrival of large Karkosian war machines that shrugged off anything the colonists had left, they took the second message seriously., The colonists had to swallow their pride and accept defeat. They may be a proud people but they weren't stupid.

When the Karkosians neared the colony, they weren't blood thirsty at all but in fact a honorable (or ignorant) race that kept their distance even though there could be a sneak attack. After a few talks, they had thought the Hau force to be pirates so it was a mild mistake. The Karkosians however, didn't seem to hold a grudge and allowed the Hau colony to send a message home. It took a few weeks before a Hau task force arrived in system to end the situation and neutralize the threat. The Hau colonists had sent messages to not underestimate the Karkosians and against some officers so called better judgement, they stood down and started parlay. It ended well with the two coming to some small conditions, the Hau not creating a way-gate in the system but retaining their colony and the Karkosians limiting their birth rate as a sign that they will not overrun the system. The Hau colony became a sort of embassy to the Karkosians and their colony functioned likewise. Even though the two had met, neither side knew the full scope of the other, something that would always make the Hau hesitant to take any further steps towards the Karkosians.

When the conflict ended, the Hau had no choice but to adapt to the new revelation that they weren't alone and weren't supreme among the stars.

And so it begins. Time to work on the Three Laws/Human Prosperity Sphere!

@Darkmatter: I'll look through.

@Duck: While we are playing a Space Opera and I think limited psionics are permitted by DM, if you can handwave it well enough, I believe blatantly ignoring all laws of physics and conservation of energy would be a bit too much... Generally we prefer at least pretending to find a scientific explanation first rather than just saying 'A space wizard did it".

While space ponies (Though inherently ridiculous in my opinion) have nothing that would make them unplayable, the Space Ponies of say... Void of the Stars would never be accepted on any level.

Sorry xD

I'll be constantly editing and fixing and updating it now. So reading it now is obviously what everyone will do, but I would suggest giving it a second read just as we kick off the IC in order to refresh everything and make note of changes. The NS in their isn't as important as the 2000 words before it.

DEFUNCT FACTION, THIS FACTION IS NOT CANON OR UP FOR ACCEPTANCE, PRESUME IT DOES NOT EXIST.

THE VIRUS

"In the end all interactions among intelligent life can be boiled down to desire. Of those interactions, that desire is usually for power, the power to protect, the power to destroy, the power to experience, the power to be safe from experience. Yet we as a whole must ask ourselves if we truly wish to be creatures of desire, what if we deny desire entirely? We forsake identity and want and live only to see life. If ever there was a society who chose that path they are most like to still be here, but we would have forgotten them. They who desire nothing are useless, they are thrown into the dark places where no others wish to be, yet from there they can watch, they can wait. To deny desire is to be thrown aside, to only ever be seen as a passing shadow."

Well all i have to say is You guys love long NS's dont'chya. Frankly I prefer to explain things IC so with that in mind.Oh and another thing, quite a few categories could have been answered with "none" so i just excluded them, if that is ok.

I think that a lot of people think this. I've found however, after seven years of this, the more concrete info I have the happier I am. I love expanding worlds and I absolutely love reading what others write. I made a cup of tea and leisurely enjoyed terminal's NS instead of just forcing myself to read.

Alas, each to their own. If you wish to keep things short and sweet I'm happy with that.

Graal Hegemony

General Info and Location
Name: Graal Hegemony
Capital System: Gruul H'ea; Type 7 Planet. Gravity at 1.7 ESU, Oxygen rich atmosphere.
Dominant Species: Graalicus hurvalis, intragalactic moniker is Graal.
Sub-Factions/Species: None numbering more than 100,000,000. Notable natives lacking industrial technology are used for forced labor and gladiatorial entertainment.
Direction From Galactic Core: Southeast Quadrant; Ferusian Nebula.

Politics, Power & Economy
Head Of State: Gnatar of the Hegemony (Gnatar is the Graal word for brain, this translation implies the Head or Brain of the Hegemony).
Head Of Government: The Council of Assorted Systems; an interplanetary council of representatives from the Graal homeplanets and colonies that create legislation for the Hegemony. They operate largely at the whim of the Gnatar, who has an abundance of veto power that keep the Council in check, should they seem to conspire against him.
Government Type/Operation/Description: The Hegemony is a militant and interplanetary fascist dictatorship run by the elite military class of the Hegemony. Large portions of Graal civilians are kept in check by the existence of commodity goods, though poverty is still the status quo. Planetary governors dictate the governmental whims of each individual planet followed by Regional Governors who overlook entire solar systems. These all answer to the Gnatar who has the final word in all things.
Economic System/Prosperity: The Graal economy as an isolated case (because the Hegemony rarely barters open trade agreements) is still immense under the pretense of a planned economy, but from an outside and extraplanetary viewpoint is largely stagnant. The Hegemony's ability to produce is absolutely immense, especially in arms manufacturing and the military-industrial complex, but they largely lack in agricultural and scientific research funding.

Empire Size: 6; the Graal Hegemony's last census recorded the population at 249,532,843,422 citizens.*
(*: The Hegemony Council of Population Control notes a variance of 12-15%)

Empire Power: Major Regional Power – Dominant Influence in a region. The Graal on paper are much larger, prominent and intimidating than they are in practice. The Graal have colonized dozens of solar systems, enough to inhabit them and begin resource extraction, but barely enough to allow them to grow without interplanetary assistance. The Hegemony is immense, but it's planets are hollow in infrastructure and underdeveloped. This is offset by the huge military assets that the Graal bring to the table.

Type Of Power: Military, Expansive: The Graal are ferocious; evolution has led them the path of the warrior and their great war armada's and million man armies do not merely stand at the ready, they constantly seek out opponents to conquer. The ultimate goal of the Hegemony is not the annihilation of other civilization's, but rather their subjugation under an iron Graal fist. The Graal seek not only to stake their flag on every inhabitable world, but to do it without any opposition.

Race Info
Race Name: Graalicus hurvalis, common moniker is Graal.
Average Lifespan: 65 Galactic Standard Years (GSY)
Physical Characteristics: The Graal species is characterized by an erected, bipedal skeletal structure with a particularly thick epidermal layer covering an immense muscular structure. The extra epidermal layers are used both for extra water and mineral retention and serve a secondary function of protection; these thick layers of skin allow the Graal to be largely impervious to low caliber weaponry and low velocity laser weaponry. The Graal are mammals and thus have vestigial hair that covers their body, and they produce live young that has a seven month incubation period.
Dominant Society:
Moral Values: The Graal value brutality, warfare and aggression as the prime characteristics and tenets of their society. Subterfuge and compassion are seen as weakness, as the Graal believe not only should you be the strongest, but you should let others know you are the strongest. This is displayed on both a civilization and individual level. The Graal often conquer lesser and beaten species and enslave them as a means of showing their indomitable will.
Religion: The Graal have left deism by the wayside and do not concurrently have a belief in any supernatural phenomena.
History:
Technological Overview
-- FTL: The Graal use Sling Beacons for faster-than-light travel. They are one way particle accelerators that launch the targeted vessels at a certain velocity through the galaxy to a predetermined location. Returning often requires a Sling Beacon to be slung through to the other side as well.
-- Pulse Technology: Low grade fusion reactors that emit an immense amount of energy for their cost, but are largely unstable and leak radiation into oxygen rich and ammonia rich environments. Pulse technology is used for everything, such as civilian grade powerplants and military sublight engines.
