Attack on Titan - Survival of the Fittest
"Every last one of you are now an officially a member of the training regiment No.104. I have been assigned to be your commanding officer so for the next three years you all will be under my authority. I'll have you know that my authority, is nothing less than a dictatorship! there will be no sunny days from this point on, the rest of your days here will be brutal. I will rule with an iron fist, anybody who disobeys will...be...punished. At this base we do not tolerate delinquencies. Anybody who whines will be punished, anybody who cries will be punished, anybody who talks back will be punished, anyone who acts out of line will be punished. Your 3 Dimensional Manoeuvre Gear training will start tomorrow and will last throughout the week, ending with a test at the end of the week. If you don't pass the test, than you are not qualified to be in the army. You are nothing but scum. You have the rest this day off but, when you wake tomorrow you will have stepped into the depths of hell. My domain." The tall burly shouted at the students, trying to invoke fear.

The man who was speaking was rather tall, above the average height of a middle aged man who he looked to be. The man had broad shoulders that were wider than his hips, they were beefy and slightly slouched forward. It was easy to tell that this man had an exceptional muscle tone, his white shirt he wore pressed tightly against his abdominal and pectoral muscles. He had a cleanly shaven head that only emphasized the wrinkles and stress line on his worn skin. His eyes were a light blue that rivalled a sky on a summers day. His face was slightly droopy around his cheeks and mouth, making him seem older than he is. The man paced back and forth as he spoke to the cadets who lined up before him. He refrained from making eye contact with any of them, always pacing back and forth across the plateau which this base stood upon.

"After these three years none of you will be the same pesky weakling that stands before me now. Right now your are dirt and nothing more. You are the dirt under my boots, pitiful and useless, only there to be stepped on and pounded into the ground. After these three years you will become warriors. Through rigorous training and exercise I will mould you, your body, and your soul into one that will be worth acknowledging." The man paused for a few seconds looking out across the lot of recruits,"You may be dismissed." The man added before finishing his speech. The commanding officer turned on his heel and walked off, letting the recruits do a they pleas for today.
Luca watched as the his new commanding officer marched away from the recruits. That's it? Luca thought as he questioned the legitimacy of this training base,A stern talking to and a warning?! This might be easier than I though... Luca still stood in line not quite sure of how to respond. He inconspicuously eyed the other recruits, wondering if they too, thought the same as him. From what Luca could gather, the other recruits took what the commanding officer said to heart, walking away from the ensemble of teens. Luca turned his head and looked the other way, making sure he stood still in case the words of the officer was just a test of some sort. He noticed some recruits walking towards the training ground, some of the recruits walking towards the dinner hall. He turned his attention to the recruit who stood beside him still,"Is this a test?" Luca questioned as he whispered to the teen.

The recruit's face changed to that of disgust. his upper lip quiver slightly and his eyes started to squint, it was obvious this recruit that he was better than Luca. The recruit let out a displeasing noise that signified he didn't care, "Tsk." Luca himself grew a face of disgust as he didn't appreciate this boys attitude, Luca had thoughts of violence but he wasn't tempted. Luca saw about 15 others students who still stood there in ,what use to be, an organized line. Luca relaxed his muscles and hesitantly started to walk away. He walked towards the bunkhouse ready, smiling as he was relieved that his first day wasn't something of physical strain.

If the speech was anymore clique and or redundant than Jacob wasn't sure if he was going to vomit up his guts or laugh until they were pudding. One way or another things were going to be no worse than he expected. He had already forced two 'qualified soldiers' into their execution blocks on the way down here and he was quite ready for this 'big man on the block' who was shouting. Though he may not look like much to the normal cadet one thing was certain. He was ready for this....he didn't drag his sorry hide from his home and get into the various problems that came with that to have colonel jar head shout him into submission. "This guy will mold us? Heh he doesn't understand how good I really am does he? Well he will soon. The only problem I see is that damnable contraption called 3 Dimensional Maneuvering Gear. And even that is just a trifle." thought Jacob as he watched the man finish his speech. Jacob's face was blank and devoid of any inner amusement the boy was really thinking.

When the jar head finally decided he was done scaring the rubes and the ones who kept their balls in a air tight container he saluted the man with the typical stance that he had seen so many times back home. And he did so with gusto....but it was really all just a sham to please and show that he was committed to this if anyone at all was paying attention whatsoever. When the man was finally gone he grunted to himself and dropped out of the pose. After quickly pulling a book that he kept in the inner part of his cadet uniform he opened it up and began to read it. It was a journal kept by a former cadet whom wrote about his time here and Rommel had book marked the chapter about the gear. He kept his eyes on the book while quickly turning around to head back towards the training field some place away in order to get some running in while he studied. If he was going to turn this frail body of his into anything resembling a soldier's he'd need to do as the jar heads did and run around some. And he was determined to get some reading in while he did so. "I wonder what the rubes will be doing?" Jacob wondered he supposed that the majority of them are currently worried or nervous. The others are panicking wondering how they're going to get through all of this. The smart ones will be mentally preparing themselves like he was and getting ready for the whole of the training and not just week one of hell's boot camp.

What the hell was she doing here?

Standing within the large crowd of cadets, Rayen was struggling to keep her composure. On the verge of an anxiety attack, her palms trembled visibly as her heart threatened to beat through her chest. This was a death sentence, and she knew it, but Ray was stuck between a rock and a hard place. With no other options, other then rotting away at home in Karanese, she was going to have to go through with this. She had been so eager the day her sister had brought up the idea, but now that she was here, reality was finally baring down on her. Casting a glance at her sister beside her, Rayen couldn’t help but feel envious of the taller girl. ‘I wish she could share some of that confidence..'

Dania had been waiting for this day for years. It had been a compromise that her parents weren’t all to happy about, but the older girl didn’t really give it a second thought. The Military was her calling, it was in her blood, and no one—not even her parents, were going to stop her from joining. Holding a strong salute, bright brown orbs burned with anticipation as the tall instructor made his introduction.

Every last one of you are now an officially a member of the training regiment No.104. Anybody who whines will be punished, anybody who cries will be punished, anybody who talks back will be punished, anyone who acts out of line will be punished.” Oh, god she needed to get out of here. Rayen felt her skin crawl as she fell for the veterans intimidation tactics. “Your 3 Dimensional Maneuver Gear training will start tomorrow and will last throughout the week, ending with a test at the end of the week. If you don't pass the test, than you are not qualified to be in the army. You are nothing but scum. You have the rest this day off but, when you wake tomorrow you will have stepped into the depths of hell. My domain.

The edge of Dania’s lip curved into a small smirk. Tomorrow was going to be the real deal, and the cadet couldn’t help but shift eagerly in her spot. “After these three years none of you will be the same pesky weakling that stands before me now. Right now your are dirt and nothing more. You are the dirt under my boots, pitiful and useless, only there to be stepped on and pounded into the ground. After these three years you will become warriors. Through rigorous training and exercise I will mould you, your body, and your soul into one that will be worth acknowledging.

You may be dismissed."

Still smirking, the brunette ran a hand through her brown locks as she turned to face her younger sister. “Rayen, you okay?” The smaller girl was frozen in her spot, shaking from head to toe as a terrified look sat along her features. “Y-Yeah, I’m alright.” Throwing a look of concern her way, the taller girl through her arm over Rays shoulder, pulling her into a playful hug, “It’s gonna be alright, Ray. From today on, things are going to start looking up, you’ll see.” Pulled away from her spot, Rayen trudged beside her sister towards the barracks as she reluctantly went along with Dania’s words, “I guess you’re right..” A terrible feeling was swelling in her gut, but right now all she wanted to do was settle in and try to see the optimistic side of the next few years of her life. ‘You can do this Ray, you just have to believe in yourself.'

Luca pushed through the wooden that separated the Bunkhouse from the outside, the hinges of the wooden door must have rusted some, because the resistance and squeaking were something that needed to be fixed. Luca ignored the poor condition of the bunkhouse and proceeded to walk in, making a B-line for the bunk bed which he dropped his gear off at earlier. The bunk beds that were scattered through out the bunkhouse were in less than good condition, most of them having loose screws. The beds that came with the bunk beds were thin. Luca raised his bag up and onto the bed. He unzipped one of the 4 zippers that were spaced around his pack, it was the largest zipper on his bag that lead to the largest pocket. In the pocket Luca found he comfortable shoes and clothes, the ones that he had brought from home. He placed them on the single shelf that was provided for them then continued to unpack some of his things. He packed a toothbrush, toothpaste, a towel, and a novelty razor. The shelf wasn't that large but it was enough to hold all of Luca's things, except for his shoes which he placed under his bunk.

Luca sat down on the thin mattress that occupied the entire surface of his bunk, he took note that the mattress wasn't very comfortable. Pressing down in some spots and bouncing on it to test it more or less. Luca removed the knee high army boots that were given to him and irresponsibly tossed them to his side, letting them flop over each other on the ground close to his bunk. He laid down on his bunk and put his scrawny arms behind his head, resting on his pillow as he waited for the dinner reminder to ring. It felt like time was standing still while Luca laid there, the only reminder that the day was still moving on was the repetitive ticking of the clock that hung above the exit door at the back of the bunkhouse. Luca closed his eye and tried to ignore the noises of all the other recruits that were getting comfortable in their bunks and were still coming into the barracks.

Shuya remained fixed in his rigid salute until the commander had left, he let out a sigh and his body sank away from attention to a calmer and more casual stance. He looked around at the different groups diverging off to different locations, he licked his dry lips and decided to head off to his bunkhouse. Stopping only to check it was the right one he stepped inside, one of the first to arrive he left to door open to let some much needed air into the stuffy room. Glancing around he noticed a few of the faces he'd stood beside a little earlier, he continued down towards the far end of the bunkhouse and retrieved the small bag, or rather sack, of personal items from under the bunk. He hoisted himself onto the top bed and started to unpack, he muttered a checklist aloud as he did so. "Towel, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste." He shoved the set of toiletries to one side and began to unload the rest of his things. A thick paperback book entitled 'To kill a titan' tumbled out, next was the latest news paper for the residents of the inner wall, then a shiny silver pocket watch with the symbol of the king etched into it, a set of casual garments followed there after before he turned the bag upside and shook it until his notepad and a set of pencils came out as well. Nodding with satisfaction he set each item in it's place and tucked the bag away under the bed, he stayed in his uniform, deciding to try and wear it in a little before training started.

Jumping down from the bed Shuya looked around at the set of other recruits, a few more had come in and were just starting to unpack. He tucked the pocket watch away into one of his pocket and took the newspaper under his arm, next he moved to area outside the bunkhouse and sat on a bench beside the door way, passing an older looking boy who had just removed his boots and finished unpacking. Whistling to himself, Shuya began to read the paper, leaning back and occasionally glancing up to see the new recruits passing by. This, he thought, was as good a way as any to pass the time until the call for dinner came, especially considering he didn't know anyone.
