Alright, is it just me or would people cook with charcoal back then? This exposes an ignorance of mine, as I've never asked the question myself...and don't know how charcoal is made past minecraft.

The use of both charcoal and wood as fuel goes as far back as ancient times, I believe, with wood having less smelting applications than charcoal of course.

Fun facts (That might be made up, It's been a long time), Charcoal was the preferred fuel in forges over coal because it burned cleaner and therefore caused less problems, and over wood because wood didn't burn hot enough, but wasn't very popular with cooking because it added weird flavors to the meat (And I assume because it was hard to light without a Bellows. Today we use lighter fluid to get it started)

Well, charcoal would be efficient but it depends how far tech has advanced. Methinks they started using charcoal in the cities just before the end of the Middle Ages.

Fun Fact: Mystra is the name of the DnD Forgotten Realms goddess of magic whose death caused the Spellplague - possibly the most influential magic event ever in Toril. The arcane refused to work and acted weird. *HINT HINT*
