"I'll take twenty relics please. Oh the evokers wearing them? Sure. We'll take good care of them, as long as they serve the empress."

They're not selling evokers to foreigners, they're selling them to each other. You would have to offer something truly remarkable to get one to sell outside of Harra.

We'd suggest an era before crossbows become all that common, and before any form of gunpowder. If institutions like Knighthoods still exist as armored knights, then crossbows can't be all that widespread, for while a longbow takes years to master sufficiently to take on armored knights, a crossbow takes much less time.

Then we'd be going back way before the 11th century. The medieval crossbow as we know it was in use in Europe from the 11th to 16th centuries. Earlier forms went back as far as the Ancient Greeks, though these were heavier artillery-type weapons. Crossbows almost replaced traditional bows in many European armies around the 12th century, although its disadvantages compared to the longbow were realized decades later.

So far it seems like I'm tripping over myself chronologically.

But well, since this is a fantasy world I suppose we could just combine stuff and go with what suits us best?

Knights, longbows and crossbows shared the battlefield up until the 15th and 16th centuries, when the concept of heavy cavalry (knights) was defeated by a mixture of infantry-centric armies with polearms and gunpowder weaponry, which didn't care about armor. Until then, bows proved to be a bane of heavy knights all throughout the medieval era.

We could, although my inner conscious wants it to make sense in a technological context.

@Alida, that depends on everyone else's opinion. However, I already see the problems with that.

@Ellri, how do I upload an image edited with gimp to the internet? Imgur doesn't seem to recognize it.

Crossbow as in the mass-produced hand-held type, Aristo. Not the siege weapon type. Basically: an era when, for ranged combat other than siege weaponry and Evoking, you would be limited to things that take years of practice to become a danger to more than yourself with. i.e. Bows, slings, throwing knives, etc. Not crossbows, guns, reliable cannons, etc.

Don't forget that since this isn't earth, eras can be twisted a little.

you have to export the image to a common format like .png, .gif, .jpeg, etc. We personally like using .png.

Alright, thank you. Imgur still doesn't like it, but photobucket seems to be...yeah, photobucket is fine with it.

How does this look?

I know a couple things about crossbows! One of the most powerful handheld crossbows was the arbalest, which was so powerful it sometimes took two people to draw back the bow and reload it.

I'm aware of the kind of crossbow we're talking about; I mentioned the ancient artillery version for historical context. Because crossbows were simple to train a man to use, why wouldn't they be prominent in our RP's world? It'd be easy for a standing army to maintain a crossbow corps, and practical, since just about anyone can use it once you show them how.

Also there is nothing to say there aren't relic that makes someone far more intelligent.

I mean I don't want to go steampunk on y'all but there is a possibility of someone somewhere having such a level of tech.

It is something I am actually surprised someone hasn't picked up on already.

Maybe that is what the Empress' relic does and why it is an Empire?

Maybe one could be found later on?

It's freeform folks.

imagine. In Freeform conventional thinking goes out the window, into the garden and it just so happens to be Guy Fawkes night so look they're burning.

Ellri likes GMs who are in the box to ruin their plans, speaking from experience but I think its a mutual thing with everyone I chill with in the IRC.

Hell as Ivonas opposite mask grants invisibility maybe she can learn how to focus the energy on enhancing her cognitive abilities.

The Vocators with advanced tech, that's a scary thought if there ever was one.

Question I've been wondering for a while, can relics be used in conjunction with another relic on the same Evoker?
