Hello again, I am Len, wonderful to see you all again, it has been a very busy summer. I have spent much time reading and writing in practice and anticipation, and now I am ready to delve back into writing! Unfortunately, I've only got one plot in mind, but it's a kicker! If you're interested in the dead, that is. Now, this is based in the world of Paranatural by Zack Morris, however, with the exception of B.L., all characters will be non-cannon. Now, before we jump into this, I should put stuff about me.
- I am a fully literate RPer with +5 years of RP experience
- I like OOC chat, I like getting to know my partner, and I like to RP with my buddies. And by being my partner, you become my buddy!
- I prefer PMs. They let me know when you, my future buddy, have replied to our wonderful RP. However, if you are dead set on threads, for whatever strange reason in our silly little noggin, I hold no qualms.
- I generally post 1-2 times a day.
- I rp either as male or female, in this case I will be doing a lot of doubling to work on my multiple character control and interaction. I honestly don't care if you play male or female or want to double, but the gender you choose will affect the overall plot.
- As a high-casual to advanced rper, I expect my partner to be high casual as well. That means a minimum of 3, well-written paragraphs, and a character with depth and development. No mary-sues.
Now that we're all done with the unpleasantries, on with the post!
Paranatural
Welcome to the world of the Paranatural activities club, set here in the beautiful town of Pleasantville! You, whether you know it or not, are among a very strange and unusual group of people, known as Spectres. Spectres, unlike other humans, have the rare ability to see, touch, and communicate with those in the supernatural realm! Ghosts, spirits, grudges, wraiths, even gods!* (Note: Little evidence supports the theory that they are, in fact, gods.) Now you may be thinking, what, ghosts? How did I get these abilities? What do I do with them? Who can show me how to use them? Why is there a girraffopede on the roof, and why is it obsessed with Virginia Woolf? The Paranatural activities club has all the answers and more, whether you want them or not!
Now, a good place to start would be why you have these powers to see and manipulate spirit energy. There are a variety of reasons, prolonged exposure to the paranormal, near death experiences, and a diet obnoxiously high in citrus being but a few! Who knows, or even really cares why you have them, but the common factor in all of these possibilities is that the subject is usually entering adulthood it begins. That's right, during the tender ages between 10 and 14, you'll start to see Shades, the umbrella term for all thing ectoplasmic in nature! Shades are invisible to most other people, and cannot be heard, touched, or affect the corporeal. Soon after this, you'll learn how to manipulate your own spirit energy, changing its form by will. Of course, it can't impact anything physical, so you don't have to worry about accidentally chopping up your mother with a misplaced spirit axe. Unless she's also a Spectre, but that's another matter entirely.
Now, before we get too in over our heads here, one should know that using spirit energy takes years, if not decades of practice, and if one isn't skilled, it can drain their stamina, resulting in sometimes disastrous injury! And so young Spectres, new to the world which they now inhabit, typically rely on the use of Tools. Tools are items which have been possessed by a dying(?) spirit, embodying the item with it's powers and conscience. Completely useless in the hands of a normal person, but a Spectre can use such tools, provided they match it's Aura type, and borrow the power from the spirit inside. In return, the spirit in the tool feeds off of the spirit energy given to it by it's host, the Spectre, until it has regained it's strength enough to leave it's Tool. Many Spectres develop friendships with their Tools, some to the extent that the spirit inside will choose to stay inside it's item to be with it's host.
Of course, spirits aren't the only creatures that can possess tools. Grudges, spirits changed into their more animalistic forms by fear or hatred, can become powerful, yet often uncontrollable Tools, and Wraiths, beings comprised of pure, emotion left behind after a sudden death, often inhabit Tools, though they are short-lived and violent. Spirits, Grudges and Wraiths, having never been truly alive, grow stronger by consuming spirit energy, and though they can produce their own, many seek to feed off of other creatures, most commonly ghosts, weaker spirits, and, unfortunately, young Spectres. Some spirits are even able to take on the forms of Poltergeist, and can interact with or even feed off of the living. These spirits are extremely dangerous, and usually only dealt with by teams of experienced ghostbusters.
Now, you may be wondering, what with all this talk of spirits inhabiting Tools and whatnot, can a spirit inhabit a human, and make it a Tool? Absolutely! When left with no other option, a dying spirit can inhabit the body of a Spectre, provided the Spectre is weak enough, and transforms them into a Medium. Unlike with tools, Mediums are able to borrow their inhabiting spirit's power directly, allowing them to accomplish super-human feats. And as the spirit inside them gets stronger, the Medium's own body begins to change to resemble their spirit, a process which most find uncomfortable or embarrassing. And a Medium's power does have extreme drawbacks. As the use of their own spirit power and their inhabiting spirit's power become indistinguishable, overuse of their Spectral abilities can cause the death of their inhabiting spirit, which in turn, can cause the death of the Spectre or, in rare occasions, the complete loss of their spectral abilities.
And in case you wanted to ask, no, ghosts can't possess or use a Tool or Human. Ghosts have very little spectral energy, left over from when they were still alive, and typically have very weak and useless ghost abilities, like creating butterflies or being able to detect a fart from 50 miles away. The spirit energy they have is busy being used keeping themselves in existence, and as they can't create their own at a fast enough rate as a host or spirit would consume, they would quickly be eaten up, like an ectoplasmic bonbon. As such, this is the fate that typically befalls ghosts, becoming a delicious snack for larger, stronger spirits. However, should a ghost manage to avoid being slurped up like a spectral smoothie, then they may remain in existence for as long as memory allows. For a ghost can only remain as long as someone remembers it, and when all living beings forget about it or die, then the ghost itself fades away. because of this, many ghosts actively seek out specters and flock around them, because as long as a Spectre remembers them, they are allowed to remain in relatively undisturbed undeath.
Well now, enough with the gloomy stuff, you probably want to know more about Tools! And aside from Auras, there really isn't much else to mention. You see, every person, spectra or not, has an aura. They're born with it, it's an unchangeable force that reflect their own soul and personality. You can most easily see them as a color surrounding a person or object, and spirits and tools have them as well. However, you can only use a tool if it's Aura type matches your own. Black is the most common color, both among humans and spirits. It's also the weakest, it has often useless effects and runs low on spirit energy quickly. Reds and yellows are more powerful, greens and purples more long lasting and imaginative, blues and oranges very emotional and with higher effects, and rare whites, pinks, and colorless Auras have the advantage of all three. How you get your Aura and it's effects are completely random, but they do restrict what kind of tool you can use.
Now, enough explanations, it's time to meet our cast! They are your fellow members in the Paranormal activities club, whether you want them to be or not! So, without further ado, here they are!
