Hey guys, fraid to say I've been lurking for a wee while, and I'm thinking about submitting a cs. It'll still be a time before I do, I like to skim through the IC before joining an in action RP, but I'm wanting to start putting my sheet together now and I've just got one question. I'm wanting to make a guy who basically looks like a Viking Raider, someone you would expect to be a superstrong hulk type, but is actually a cross between an empath/precog. My question is, what sort of power type should that fall under?

Welcome to the RP!

Yeah, definitely sounds interesting. I look forward to the sheet.

I'm Jazzy by the way. I'm an co-Gm of Allens along with He Who Walks Behind.

Okay, I put down's Abe sheet before we get any more brutes in. I tried waiting for the next act, but man, there are too many physical fit people, athletes, and hell, even street fighters. I'd personally like more variety. I'd do it myself, but I might be overextending myself. I don't really have the time to put work into three characters.

Abe is accepted.

Elemental 7
Anatomical 6

Just like his old ratings in the first 218.

Yay, another extra-sensory type for Deborah to play with! :D

I'd say he'd be a Extra-Sensory/Cerebral type, depending on his capabilities. Anywho, characters can fall under multiple classes, long as it isn't anything ridiculous. Like, it falls under a thematic (Take Valjean for example).

Now, Space Communist, we already have a pyromancer, Ella, who pretty much as the same power as Konstantyn.

Ah, I did not realize there was another pyromancer in the RP. I must have missed her as I looked through various character sheets. In reality, I imagine there would almost certainly be multiple users of the same powers, but since this is an RP, I suppose I shall find another. I have already spent the night thinking of an alternative that might be less powerful (and more defensive than offensive), and will edit the character sheet accordingly (as I'm a stubborn man, I'd rather partially keep what I've written than make an entirely new design).

Mr Allen J said I also think that his personality could be expanded a bit more.

Alright, I can do that.

EDIT (to avoid a double post): I have updated Konstantyn's sheet. I've replaced his elemental power with a cosmic and a spatial one, the former being less offensive and more defensive, and the second being evasive. (Before you say it, if you should rather I get rid of one of the powers, I will do so, as I suspect you may not be happy with him having two.) I have also tweaked his appearance and bio just a little to replace the fire-power traits mentioned in them with the new ones. Not to mention, I have also doubled the length of his personality!

I'll review them in just a moment.

By the way, edited in Ben's backstory if anyone's curious.

Double post, whatevs

I've always disliked light related powers because they to not make too much sense (solid light, such as in this power is an example of that), but we have a lot of powers that dont really make that much sense, so it's fine in my book. As is the other void power. So you have my thumbs up.

Binding photons to form solid matter or something resembling solid matter is confusing. Maybe if you're able to draw it in and condense it, it will make a beam. But since protons and energy in general is pretty free floating, it would lose its shape pretty quickly and thusly its power. But it is still condensed, so all that probably explains why you're feeling a punch and not being downright incinerated.

I updated the third post and updated the list of the classes people fall under. Animal, Elemental, and Energy have the most characters in them.

I adjusted my character's power ratings a bit as well. I also threw a notice on the OP about newer characters with offensive powers.

Stephen has nothing to do till it starts and Kristen really doesn't until it's over unless someone tries to get her involved one way or another.

Ah, acceptance! Many thanks for allowing me to be a part of this storymaking process.

On the matter of the imminent CTF match, is it a tad bit too late for Konstantyn's participation? If need be, he can be in an observational position.

Look, I'm not a particle physicist; I dunno how "solid light" might function. All I know is that it *might* fit in a universe of talking panda-people and autonomous shadows.

No, I meant you had a point, not him. I really gotta be better about using vague pronouns.

i see both sides of it. This RP's leaning more towards vaguely pseudoscientific but at the same time the majority of things are outright supernatural. I think the supernatural nature of things is okay (ex. Lynn's shadow) provided there are concrete/realistic limitations on it. For example, there's no way Gabe's lasers could ever be a real thing, but they still burn her hands/take energy like they would if they were somehow possible. I think Jazzy's concern is just that if powers get to where they're purely supernatural, it becomes that much more difficult to decide where to draw the lines of plausibility.

Or something, I dunno.

I'm about to start the match, so Konstantyn could chill in the observation deck with Adam and the others.

Yeah, I agree; there may be a point where it becomes difficult to say what would be "realistic" or not. I'm not a GM, obviously, and therefore have no real authority to draw lines anywhere, but personally I think we should draw the line when someone tries to make themselves use the might of a "higher power", aka God. Such a thing would add an important detail to an entire universe that is not theirs to (fully) define, only to take part in. It's either be that, or—as the rules already say—instakill powers.

I personally prefer it where stories have some sort of pseudo-science, or at least a framework of rules, to follow when someone gives their character power. It prevents a lot of issues from creeping up; and I know this because a lot of stories I used to participate in that involved magic resulted in a lot of confusion.

With this in mind, though, I came up with a Spatial/Cosmic-class (not sure which, probably Spatial) character, or rather, have one I can re-purpose for this story, whose power involves overturning certain laws of physics, as long as she physically touches something, even though her own physical endurance/strength is really no more impressive than a human's. I enjoyed the character, because there was cool stuff she could do, and I could get away with causing comical accidents when she messed up regarding her powers (No one else but her was harmed, of course), like cancelling out the friction of her shoes by accident. I don't know if she would be regarded as OP or not, though, because if she learned to use her powers, well, she would probably score pretty high on the power strength scale.

I've always been a fan of balancing the suspension of disbelief and a little bit of physics. The suspension applies to the existence of powers and the fact the people have them and can use them. Peter being made of metal and generating/controlling electricity is the suspension. The little bit of physics applies to how that power affects the environment and the natural events that would occur according to that power. I entirely intend on making the usage as realistic as I can, to have these bolts of lightning and electrical discharges work as electricity regularly would.
