More posts in here!!! Can't be on chatzy often. Times just rarely coincide.

I have a question concerning the Jovian league. If someone else wants one of the moons around saturn or jupiter you're willing to accommodate right?

Also you might wanna think of what lives under the ice sheets of Europa.

That will depend entirely on what the person wants with a specific moon. There are a few that are off limits for a other player to claim as a nation as they are important to my nations structure,

These are;

Io- which is a large resource moon, holding a few subsidiary mining and refining corporations. The nature of the moon makes for surface facilities being very uncommon and overly dangerous so most facilities are on orbital structures with only the heavy machinery operating on the surface.

Ganymede- The Technical capitol of the Jovian league. As it has water and oxygen, it will have some prior life, although its very primitive fauna, like ultra early grass.
Using those plants and a little space magic, the world thrives on food made from those plants that, after being treated with said space magic, The planet, through space magic as well, has been entirely Terra-formed. I'll probably throw some epic space bs and say that greenhouse gasses and solar panel focusing arrays have made the planet warm enough for people to have open air cities (earth-like) but there are many MANY underground colonies and emergency subways from before it had an atmosphere.
Note: The world no longer needs the solar panels to stay warm as the gasses are already at safe levels to keep heat levels although they are still there and function to keep the present temperature (space magic)

Europa- The first colonies in the Jovian region were to Europa and now the surface is littered with giant oil-derrick like platforms with large stilts reaching far into the surface below. The under water parts contains space whales and primitive fish. The first creatures to actually be discovered that are that advanced! (can be changed) The atmosphere hasn't been changed much so that the entire planet doesn't lose its nature. So the air, though breathable, is very cold and windy. (think Antarctica) so many areas have focused solar panels to warm open air colonies and others are entirely enclosed. this planet houses many space elevators to the space stations that began the Jovian league. Many space ports exist and the Jovian main fleet operates from there.

Callisto- Kind of.. well, I'm juggling ideas of it being another industrial world and trade place. Seeing as its the furthest out, it'd have various orbital military bases but due to its proposed interior, I do not think it'd be Terra-formed at all. Just surface and subsurface enclosed colonies.

Metis- A giant... giant gas refining planet. Few enclosed colonies but quite a few giant orbital ones, both residential and industrial. It is the biggest one and also has one of the biggest military bases (Entire Jovian 2nd fleet guards this place as its vital to the Leagues economy.)

Adrastea, Amalthea, and Thebe- The other inner planetoids that operate similar to Metis but on a much smaller scale. The Jovian 6th fleet defends these.

Various other moons function as research worlds (both civilian and military) outer colonies or trade ports for nearby colonized moons. I'm thinking one or two are kind of Terra-formed using the panel and green house space magic but these would require constant solar energy to maintain heat.

These worlds are all called, no way around it. If people want factions on those worlds, by all means let me know (it's likely to be accepted as I intend the Jovian region to be a... dangerous.. place to live.) If people want to use one of the smaller asteroids for what ever purpose, that's fine but having a full blown military faction within the Jupiter region is a no go as the League navy would squash it without a thought. (like highlander, there can be only one!)

I'll make another post regarding Saturn soon but I'd go ahead and consider most large moons off limits but I'm not sure yet. Jupiter is the primary Jovian league stranglehold as its seat of government, main navy yards and HQ, and the biggest exporter of high end gases/fuels etc.

Post regarding Saturn,

Titan will be a space magic terra-formed world and is the central government of the Saturn region.

Might use Tethys as a terra-formed planet as well.. Other large moons will be possibly up for grabs so long as they fall under the Jovian laws etc.

(i'm thinking of Saturn being the more law-less of the two worlds but the presence of the Jovian fleet, the worlds proper still abide by basic law.

Jovian League

Location:: The moons of Jupiter and Saturn
Government:: Military Authoritarian
History:: The Jovian league draws its roots from early colonization efforts of old earth. As colonies began to spring up through the moons, earth began calling for resources to sustain itself. At first the Jovians were more than happy as they were just a colony of their home world, earth. As time went on an they became more and more abused, a sort of national pride kicked in and they began a bid for independence. Families of the miners of Jupiter and Saturn began leaving earth which bolstered numbers and the ships they brought seemed to bolster the Jovians resolve. The taxation of heavy metals and gasses began towards earth did not help the situation on earth.

When the Solar war began, the CCZ arrived in large numbers to take over the resource rich moons and machinery that at the time, has been untouched by the war. They were somewhat well received as the Jovians felt like they had some security. The GIU would tear that security down in a heart beat as they arrived in force, causing fighting right in the Jovians living room. As the two fought it out, various colonies were occupied by marines from both sides until the third earth faction arrived. An NAU fleet arrived and for a while, they fought it out but as they began to tire, the Jovians made a move on the occupied colonies, from within. It was luck that the colonies weren't bombed from orbit as they began liberating the worlds, the fleets started receiving word of earths fall and that their war was over and a cease fire was created. The Jovians were now in the middle of a culture war as the earth forces began merging peacefully in to the colonies they once occupied militarily.

At first it was harsh and people didn't trust one another but after two hundred years, the old wounds had healed as the old generations died out. There would still be some finger pointing to this day and the occasional extremist would raise their voice but one thing would always arrive to snuff it out, the Jovian military. Made up of all factions, the military grew into a juggernaut with a sole purpose of not allowing another solar war to ravage the only home these men and women have. Numerous rulers have come and gone but none have ever been allowed to lead without the backing of the military. Some colony leaders have lasted mere days before vanishing or being publicly executed to be sure people to understand how serious they are about their mission, to protect the Jovian League

Culture: Various cultures have taken root in the nation that are traced directly to the old super nations of earth. One dominant belief is shared through them though, the defense of the league itself. There is no one religion that shapes any ideology or any one figurehead that is revered as a grand leader of old. There is an criminal culture that has formed in the bowels of the nation that has formed everything from black market weapons dealers to mere gangs that fight for food.

Military: The Jovian league has put a lot of effort in to space combat as they feel any attack on another world would take considerable ground technology on its own to win a war. This technology is only as good as the soldiers using them so only the strongest people who would be less prone to having 'sea legs' are chosen to be actual navy soldiers so the focus was the ability to attack enemies from above and mop up with highly trained marines. The Jovian ground military is large but is thinly spread and is mostly law enforcement or support units. There are no tracked behemoth tanks but rather hover attack vehicles mounting various types of weapons.

The navy is where the true might of the League lays. The warships are not usually hulking machines but rather smaller sized, faster and highly maneuverable ships. This has been necessary due to the asteroid rich areas that they patrol. Hulking monster warships have problems navigating the dense asteroids. The Leagues warships also do not have an artificial gravity, rather they save the space and energy for weapons and other systems. The crew can wear magnetic shoes or glide through the hallways which all have hand rails for that purpose.

Technology: Jovians make a lot of money on trading gaseous products and heavy metals mined from the many asteroids of their home. This has created a society with alot of automation and robotics are almost as common as people. From giant mechanical arms with a laser cutter to massive hovering mining craft, the Jovians are always pushing industrial technology.

The nations military, for the longest time, was a collection of ships from the belligerents of the Solar war. These ships were all examined and over a long time, new ships were developed that use the best of all attributes of those vessels. Most ships use heavy kinetic weaponry and with no shortage of ammunition, they pack many of them. The armor on these ships are usually very thick and is supported by heavy magnetic shielding to deal with constant threat of micro meteorites and the very strong magnetic field of Jupiter. These heavy weapons are only a support role to the ships primary armaments, ion array cutting beams.

The cutting beams themselves are the culmination of mining technology turned to combat weaponry. The former mining tool was the laser which gave the Jovians an easy method of mining asteroids but the energy required to cut some of the dense rock was difficult to maintain. With better generators, these lasers became more popular and eventually had phased out most physical mining tools. The Ion cutting beam was created to split large asteroids in to pieces and be towed to specific ships that would grind up the pieces with ease. The Ion cutters were so impressive that the Navy adopted them and weaponized them. The navy still uses lasers on their ships but the primary weapon is the ion array cutting beam.

Ground weaponry is far more archaic. Usually they are purchased weapons but the marines use Jovian produced weaponry but for the most part, its not any better than the purchased weapons. Sometimes even worse.

Ganymede

Subject:: Planet
Location:: Jupiter
Geography:: Old craters now filled with green fields with settlements dotting the surface. both small and large canyons stretch for miles with cities built into the more shallow and wider ones.
Atmosphere:: Only two seasons, Fall and Winter due to the lower natural temperatures of the world.
Fauna: Imported and genetically modified earth plant life
Other:: Orbiting the planet is a decent number of orbital facilities ranging from orbital habitats and long range sensor satellites to massive shipyards both military and civilian.

Name:: New Galileo
Subject:: Capitol City
Location:: Along the technical equator of Ganymede.
Population:: 220,000 est
Culture:: The heart of the Jovian League is a mix of most cultures that exist in the League itself with many earth influences as well. Much of the culture can be seen in its building styles that vary from race to race. The city itself is very calm and reserved as the police patrol it heavily. This place is one of the few Idyllic places in the League.
Other:Being the Capitol of the Jovian League and named after the man who first discovered the planet, the city is an impressive display of craftsmanship. Large pillars line streets with ornate crafted lamps. Huge sky scrapers and massive arrays of mass transit systems define this city as one of the biggest in the League. The city is built in a circular pattern with an underground city that supports it. Huge underground power stations fuel the busy world above it. The Capitol building itself is underground for protection.

/////Name: Damian Changri
////Subject: Character
///Location: New Galileo
//Appearance:
/Biography: This man is the current civilian president of the Jovian League. He was a long time senator before rising to the station by a very slim margin. He has been president for seven years and has really been a passive, reactive individual. The military has seen increased autonomy in regards to government control or compliance. Some has began wondering if he has ties to certain crime families but no evidence has been presented.
other: He was in the military for five years before being injured on a ship. He currently has to use a cane to get around.

/////Name: Randall Montgomery
////Subject: Character
///Location: New Galileo
//Appearance:
/Biography: Randall is a newer player in the government as he was only elected as a senator three years ago and has rose to stardom as the one who brings the criminals down. With the military at his back due to having extensive family history, his actions are for the most part, unchallenged. His Requisition legislation and other attached laws have been instrumental in taking back many private refining stations that were operated under the table. These stations have since been turned into government facilities and have cut the revenue to many crime families. He has become an icon and has just recently announced his intent to take the civilian presidency.
Other: Having the military's respect has been his sword and shield and he wields them efficiently. Covert operations that would otherwise not be sanctioned by any government has been carried out without a second thought to achieve Randall's goals. Many higher ranking crime lords have fallen prey to these operations but its never reported, they just disappear.

Tethys

Subject:: Planet
Location:: Saturn
Geography:: Numerous plains flanked by light mountains. Craters and chasms are sporadic throughout the surface.
Atmosphere:: Comfortable open atmosphere, year round fall season. rain is common.
Fauna:: Imported and genetically adapted earth plant life.
Other: The Capitol of the Saturn area in the Jovian League. The world is full of open colonies and its underground facilities aren't even half as big as the ones on Ganymede. The reason for this is that the world had many domed colonies at the point of Terra-forming. The world has few, but heavily populated large cities that are partially underground. The buildings are close together and have massive enclosed foot bridges from building to building. Mag lev trains move throughout the city on a very complex rail system that has become more and more crowded as the cities slowly expand. Few settlements exist outside the major cities but usually have less than two hundred colonists, making these settlements nothing more than a footnote.

Name:: Karstown
Subject:: Capitol City
Location:: Tethys
Culture:: Karstown is a heavily populated city but the majority is Ethnic NAU descendants.
Other: The Karstown settlement was established shortly after the solar war ended and the League was in its infancy. The NAU portion of the fleet spearheaded forming a more NAU affiliated colony and at the time the man the colony was named for, Randy Karson, was one of the proponents of a more unified nation. His desire to tear down those barriers was so strong that he ordered families to be spread throughout the league to every world to promote unity so that the original ideology that formed the nation in the first place, to never be conquered or destroyed, would require no interior racial hatred. To this day, the planet is still more ethnic NAU than any other race.

Metis

/////Subject: Planet
////Location: Jupiter
///Geography: A irregularly shaped planetary sitting very low in Jupiter orbit.
//Atmosphere: Non existent.
/Fauna: [only if the world is valid for alien life]
Other: Metis is the biggest gas collection colony in the Jovian league. Huge solar panels power enormous, for lack of better terms, vacuums that pull various gasses from the upper atmosphere of Jupiter. It has many orbiting refineries and works with other nearby moons for storage and preparation for transporting. The moon itself is so important to the Jovian League that an entire fleet has been assigned to the area.

====================================================================================================
Europa

/////Subject: Planet
////Location: Saturn
///Geography: The surface is a very smooth layer of ice, massive cracks that run for miles due to the plate tectonic activity far below.
//Atmosphere: The atmosphere of Europa is breathable air but the winds are very sharp and cold. There are open colonies but most still prefer domed ones. The colonies are built like the oil platforms of earth, giant legs that stretch far under water or just float on the waters surface.
/Fauna: Small eel-like fish, giant clusters of what looks like coral but floats freely in the water. Large schools of smaller creatures call these super structures their home with some being an almost half mile across.
Other: The colony has many orbital facilitates and a few military shipyards. The surface started out as a research colony to search for life. When life was found, researchers flocked by the thousands to see the new life. This new life is quite old now with the only real scientific endeavors taking place is young school children doing science reports.

I've a notion to play an AI.

Noting your, um, note on avoiding technological singularities, I figure the programmer of said AI created it with laws that it physically cannot violate (thank you, Isaac Asimov). One of those laws being that it cannot understand its own code. Even if all the information is present for the AI to create another AI or improve its own code, it physically can't.

I'd have a few physical resources floating about; maybe I'd grab a planet or moon somewhere (perhaps I could even even be based on Earth as a war experiment, long-ago forgotten, that is now threatening the other remnant nations. of course, nobody outside of Earth believes such crazy rumors). The point is that I'd be happy going anywhere. Provided this is a concept you're okay with.

Good to see updates.

Speaking of updates, here is a tech sheet I made for the FAL:

/////Name: FAL Travel [Fast-As-Light]
////Subject: Technology
///History/Location:

The invention of FAL can be attributed to a Prussian man from the Atlantic Union working in the Greater State of India who is known to have had a complex relationship with the Global Cooperative Zone named Everstark Schneider around the year 2264 on Earth.

While a well educated and very prestigious man, in his time Everstark was notoriously manipulative in his pursuits to make sure he had total control over his projects in a business-like manner and funding from as many sources as possible, regardless of their legality. Everstark after the invention became something of a celebrity and rake in vast sums of wealth, however he didn’t agree with the way his invented was being used and used his wealth to make sure everyone used the technology the way he saw best.

This sort of behavior would end up having Everstark ultimately be executed in the year 2282 after trying to bribe engineers affiliated with the development of an extra solar military fleet to sabotage the FAL engine. His punishment was controversial in its time due to how arbitrary it seemed; the head of engineering in the Alantic Union commissioned an automatic death ship that used FAL to send him flying into the sun.

Regardless of Everstark’s personal life, his invention, FAL was first successfully tested in 2664 when a probe equipped with the proto-type device was sent to the moon from the orbit of earth in a second. Everstark’s invention would in a matter of seven years revolutionize the space industry and begin the construction of the first colony ships as the ever ideological factions begun to race their way to the stars using their massive, near-limitless budgets to generate the vast amounts of exotic matter needed to traverse interstellar distances. However, the drawbacks of FAL became clear when colony ships and the occasional expedition fleet kept disappearing and the danger of long distance travel using FAL became obvious- FAL as it turned out, was a very finicky device. But that didn’t stop the super states, whose mind set was simply to keep building colony ships and fling them into the cold dark unknown and hope for the best.

While exotic matter production existed since the 2230’s, there was not much application found for the surplus produced over the decades until FAL came along. The main reason exotic matter being produced so much being the mere desire between the super states to out produce the other super state in having more exotic matter. There also was the belief they could make anti-matter WMDs with it which thankfully didn’t turn out to be true.

After the collapse, FAL became far more expensive due to the infrastructure required to make it. It was to the point where no one used FAL for centuries after the collapse, instead using subluminal methods of transport. In more recent times however, FAL has been “rediscovered” however not many ships make use of it even today due to the limited industrial complexes of sol.

//Function/Technical Information:

FAL in the most basic sense is comparable to a “warp drive” in that both regionally warp space around their ships to drag themselves through space at “speeds” far faster than normally applicable to Einstein’s laws. However the nature of FAL is unique from the alcubierre drive in that it is unable to break the light barrier, only cause ships within the field to go at the speed of light due to field “hiding” the mass of the ships.

The result of the field generated is that any ships within it while the field is activated move at the speed of light due to being to the outside world just energy. The dangers inherit in a device such, as these are obvious, as there is no way to be stealthy with it. Even worse, sensors can actually look into the field and get visuals on ships approaching.

The field itself can carry multiple ships that are latched to the FAL generating main ship, and theoretically advancements in FAL could allow for larger fields that would be able to hold more ships that are properly latched to the ship that generates the FAL field. Ships not connected to the FAL generating ship during warp are doomed to absolute annihilation due to speed differences, and potentially killing everyone within the field through the field imploding in on the ships leading to instant death. It is suspected by some that this is the fate of various colonial expeditions. However, this all depends on the threshold the field being generated can handle and smaller objects like space junk, trash or people may only merely be shredded into oblivion when going outside the field while activated. The outside field therefore can “tank” attacks from the outside, but a sufficiently powerful enough projectile [like a rammed ship] could cause the field to implode and kill everyone too close or within the field instantly.

This also means accidently FAL-ing into a planet is instant death for those within the field.

The main danger is however, not the field being disrupted and imploded from the inside or even from the outside. The main issue of FAL is the supplied source for keeping the field up itself- exotic matter. For exotic matter is not easy to get, and requires high power facilities working day-in-and-out to produce the amounts needed to sustain the FAL field for longer distances. Another issue is that the drive itself is finicky- sometimes the drive suffers inexplicable power drains or leaks that cause the exotic matter supply to rapidly dwindle. Other times the drive itself just fails due to one of the systems breaking down by melting the mainframe or simply being overloaded. The danger however, does not come from the drive failing in itself, as the drive failing simply causes the generated field to dissipate and return the ships within back to the actual properties of space.

However, it must be noted the drive does not actually accelerate the ship at all. Instead the ship’s speed stays exactly the same as it was when opening the field. This has made the applications of FAL as a way to deliver weapons limited, as due to the space required to store a FAL drive and the cost of FAL it is simply more practical to use FAL to field in ships for transport, commerce or military related purposes when used.

The perception of time within the field does not actually change, as the field does not accelerate the ships themselves. As a result the effects associated with relativistic travel do not exist; the perception of time is the same for those on the ships as it is for those outside the ships. For instance, if it takes light eight minutes to reach the sun and a FAL user decides to fly his ship into the sun he will perceive eight minutes before the field implodes on his ship due to hitting the sun.

Those within the field may find themselves having trouble with communicating to those outside the field or getting much general information about their surroundings outside the field. As a result, it is generally a good idea to plan ahead. [not sure]

/Applications: FAL’s applications are almost always used for the transportation of ships across much further distances than normally possible concerning space travel. Usually a very large spaceship is used as the central hub for FAL and other ships within a fleet hook up to the main ship in order for them all to maintain a constant, uniform speed while within the field.

As a weapon FAL has proven disappointing for while the light speed delivery of highly devastating payloads may sound appealing, it must be remembered that the costs of generating a Schneider field with FAL and the lack of acceleration offered make any such weapon incredibly costly and ultimately impractical to even consider the use of.

Other: Should I make a short version?

Still will need to make sheets for the venusian republic [faction], Venus [terraformed] and warp gates before I can even get to my own faction!

On top of that, its drones swing from making incredibly elegant decisions one moment to making incredibly basic mistakes the next. Usually these mistakes are a result of unaccounted-for external variables that Watson can't react to in time.

The other main technological innovation that Watson has are the advanced PDA's that he distributes to his human agents.
