Don't expect something amazing. Never really made a spy before and I don't know exactly what I'm doing so expect a mistake or two. But before I do, could you perhaps give me some detail of the kind I clothing the soldiers wear? Are they ornate, etc?

As a spy you want to have the least ornate stuff possible. You'd just want really, really plain clothes that a normal citizen would have. Not the Evil Empire's Regal Soldier Armor.

You'd want like just a plain black tunic and some pants and shoes.

Gotta blend in, and look like a normal dude.

Well I was thinking of him having a magic ring or something that helps his clothing change form but its base form is actually ornate. The ring itself changes the appearance of his clothing on mental command but that must be concentrated otherwise it will change back.

Both with varying swords, axes, maces and polearms. Officers would have badges of merit and more ornate gear. A spy infiltrating the ranks would dress exactly as a footsoldier, with few if any variances from standard issue gear.
