Hello everybody.

I want to pitch in the idea for A Song of Ice and Fire RPG.

I have not fully thought this out, and I am not planning on completely driving the plot. Rather, I want to gather a group of people who would like to each contribute to the plot and story-line. I want to be able, however, to moderate those who are blatantly killing the game.

The main problem that presents itself is the hierarchy in Westeros. Some characters are going to have much more authority then others.
It wouldn't be right if one player had a character who was the Warden of the West, while another was a hedge-knight.

Any ideas guys?

Maybe we can have the plot focus on a group of sell-swords?

Or, if we get enough players, we can have two or more groups of players, each fighting under the banner-men of different factions. Perhaps even have each character be the banner-man himself, a Lord with a small army who fights for his Warden. This will also allow the political aspect of the world to kick in. A hedge knight won't have many interesting political situations or intrigue, but a Lord of a holding definitely will.

Another option is, we might be able to simply use the world of Westeros and other continents from A Song of Ice and Fire, but create our own massive conflict, which would unite these factions and see constant interaction between them.

I don't think it really matters to most if someone is in a higher position than them. People like to play various different roles that are in varying states of power compared to everyone else. For example, I've seen someone apply as a freed slave with little money and possessions while a lot of other people were in high positions of power and wealth. Nevertheless I'm always interested in a GoT roleplay no matter what the requirements. I've only seen the TV show though so my knowledge of the world might not be as good as those who have read the books.

I'm obsessed with GoT. You have me, and if you have any lore questions, run 'em by me.

I agree with you on that, but it's just it leaves little room for interaction.

Although if we have an equivalent amount of players playing the lower hierarchy and the higher one that could work out.
While the political things are being sorted out, the hedge-knights/slaves/knights could have their own plots going between them. And then depending on the action and decisions of the nobles can affect both plots drastically. I actually really like this idea.

I actually read all the books before the series even came out, but that was quiet a while ago. Sounds good!

Interested, but I'm also someone who only saw the show.

I also need to ask two questions.

1. What are the post requirements?
2. Is this an alternate world where the families and shit are our own, or is this taking place during, before or after the events in the book?

Post requirements are casual to high-casual.

Let's say, two or three paragraphs a post?

I am leaning more for having the same families, which possess, geographically, the same territories as the beginning of the movies, but different characters.

If we leave the same characters, I'm afraid that things are going to get extremely complicated. Especially for the people who only watched the series.

If you are worried about the book/show setting not being very accommodating, you could always have it take place before Aegon's Landing. I believe that timeline is very much a blank slate up until Aegon comes along. The families back then were different too (Hoare, Gardener, Durrandon).

Another possible setting could be during the Targaryen civil war (the Dance of the Dragons). Players could choose a side to support. The only problem I see is that show-watchers would be unfamiliar with the setting.

Ok, I can try to do 2-3 paragraphs. I can normally pull off 2 is needed, but not always 3. The Game of Thrones setting should make it easier though.

I'd would be in favor of the "Same families, but replace the book/show characters with our own", or simply invent our own families. Both gives us a lot of freedom to do our own plot, and not have to worry about staying consistent with the series.
