[OOC] A Great Bloody Mess

Despite sticking to the shadows and avoiding sunlight like the plague, vampires have become a pretty heavy threat in Japan. About a month ago, the vampires of Japan came out and said they were going to take control over the humans and turn Japan into a land of eternal night; a paradise for the nocturnal blood-suckers. Of course they expected resistance; it'd be weird if the humans didn't fight back. What the vampires weren't expecting, however, was that it would be really freakin' good resistance. They very last thing they expected was for a specialized sect of vampire hunters to emerge almost immediately after the announcement of their imminent takeover.

Now, a month later, vampires have been almost completely eradicated from Japan. Not even the night is safe anymore, thanks to these Black Sword hunters. They carry silver katanas, UV-ray bullets, and smoke bombs that release a garlic-based powder. They are the walking epitomes of everything that can kill a vampire, and when the sun comes down, they come up to hunt, pursue, and eliminate every last vampire. Now you're probably thinking this is an RP about finishing the job. Wrong.

This is a horror-survival RP where, instead of humans fearing the threat of vampires, it's the exact opposite. During the day, if you can't hide from the sun, you'll burn to death on the spot. A place to hide is necessary, and staying alert is key, for there are some Black Swords who strike during daytime hours as well. At night, it's time to hunt, while avoiding being hunted yourself. If you don't drink blood for three days, you'll shrivel up and die. In an out-of-the-way little town somewhere near Kyoto, the last of the vampires have gathered. There are no Black Swords here, so this town is a place we can call safe...

Below are the rules and CS template. I'm keeping this OP short, quick, and to the point.

Rules

I: As GM, my word is law.

II: Killing humans is only natural, but try not to go overboard. The more obvious you become, the sooner the Black Swords find out where you are, and then it's dying time.

III: Just because you're a vampire doesn't mean you're immortal. The sun, silver, wooden stakes through the heart, garlic, and other vampiric weaknesses all affect you.

IV: Sparkling is completely, totally, and absolutely indisputably forbidden. Violators shall be incinerated on sight.

V: No speed-posting.

VI: Don't take too long, either. If you're going to be away for a while (let's say 5+ days) please notify me. If you're quitting the RP, say so.

VII: As GM, I hereby proclaim that roman numerals are the fanciest, most vampire-esque way to enumerate a list.

VIII: Rules are subject to be added, changed, or removed at my discretion. I will never do these things without notifying you.

MORE ABOUT VAMPIRES

Vampiric Powers

As a vampire, you boast several powers lesser beings couldn't even dream of holding. Listed below are the mighty abilities you can access. But take note that some powers are only available to vampires who have had some time to grow in age and - by effect - power.

NOTE: All time-based measures of when vampiric abilities develop are based on the average of all vampires who have existed. These are not concrete, and may vary.

Vampiric Fangs: Show us those pearly whites! The vampire's basest ability is the power to extend or retract a pair of razor-sharp fangs that rest just above the canines. These are capable of ripping through flesh, enabling you to drink blood from whatever you bite.

Agelessness: It's good to be young. As a vampire, you don't age. For vampires who have been around for a couple decades or longer, not drinking blood can "age" you, mainly by means of your body drying out and you generally beginning to look like a 200-year-old version of yourself. Drink blood regularly to stay young and beautiful.

Vampiric Attributes: As a vampire, you are superior to humans in every way. You're stronger, faster, tougher, and have sharper senses than those walking blood bags. Not drinking blood can decrease these attributes; going two days without drinking will put you at the level of a normal human, which is damn pitiful for a vampire. Since you're also dead, diseases and poisons have no effect on you.

Regeneration: Time heals any wound. As a vampire, you can regenerate at incredible speeds. If you were to lose a limb, you would probably grow the whole thing back after a week. Drinking blood rapidly increases your regeneration speed during the drink itself. The current record for fastest regeneration goes to 14th-century Russian, Mikael Blorveski, who regenerated four limbs and the lower half of his torso in six hours, completely draining twenty humans in the process.

Bat Form: After six months, a vampire will gain the ability to turn into a bat. This is handy for getting from A to B with relative sneakiness, reaching hard-to-reach places, and scaring the hell out of people by swooping down right in front of them. After five-hundred years, the vampire develops the power to turn into an entire swarm of bats, or even grow massive bat wings from their backs in their normal form.

Mist Form: After five years, a vampire gains the power to turn into a cloud of mist. Elusive as the mist form may be, the entire cloud needs to be together to revert to your normal form. As a result, capturing part of the mist in, say, a bottle or something, is basically fatal to a vampire in their mist form. Windy nights are also a problem.

Hypnosis: After ten years or so, a vampire becomes able to hypnotize humans and animals, but only if they're not aware that you're doing this. A hypnotized human or animal will do your bidding for a time, but can only do lesser things. After a hundred years or so, this evolves into full-blown mind control, but it only works on one thing at a time. Vampires are immune to this ability entirely, in both its lesser and greater forms.

Necromancy: After two centuries have passed, a vampire becomes able to raise the corpse of somebody he or she has recently drained of all their blood. The corpse won't last long, but it's something. After hitting the thousand-year mark, a vampire's necromantic ability amplifies greatly, enabling them to raise more and more corpses, as well as preserve them better.

Vampire Society

Vampires are a species that values power when determining a hierarchy. Due to the fact that vampires grow more powerful as they get older, this effectively means that the oldest vampire in a group will commonly be the most respected one, and will be assigned as a leader. In the year 1534BC, Namtar the First created a system that determined a vampire's rank depending on their age, as well as creating the Ten Ancients.

The system created by Namtar the First, as well as other information about being a vampire, was published in 1946 in a rare book entitled "The Vampire Code", which many vampires own for reference. Its sales are kept secluded to prevent hunters from finding it.

Fledgling: A fledgling vampire is classified as "A vampire who has lived less than 100 years." In global vampire society, the words of fledglings rarely - if ever - hold any weight to the older vampires, and they're usually the first ones sacrificed in a battle that will require loss of soldiers. They're basically seen as not being equal to older vampires, and in some cases fledglings are even enslaved by older vampires. For a fledgling to stop being seen as a fledgling, they are required to pass a trial that they may take at 100 years of age. This trial is to kill a vampire hunter, which naturally means the fledgling population will increase if these Black Sword hunters ever go global. Not taking this trial will mean continuing to be deemed a fledgling.

Lesser Vampire: A lesser vampire is a vampire ranging from 100-500 years of age that has passed the trial of killing a vampire hunter. Politically, they're only recognized when all of them agree on a matter, and socially, they're only treated as equals because they're no longer fledglings. With the average lifespan of a vampire being some 1,000 years, lesser vampires are still seen as young and inexperienced.

Greater Vampire: A greater vampire has exceeded the 500-year mark. They are to be respected by lesser vampires and fledglings, because they've passed the halfway mark of the average vampire's lifespan. By this point in time, the powers of a vampire have almost fully developed too, so a mid-range greater vampire could wipe the floor with a mid-range lesser vampire if needed. It's beginning at this point that enslavement of fledglings is allowed, the number of slaves growing in proportion to your age.

Elder Vampire: An elder vampire has reached 1,500 years of age, greatly exceeding the typical life of a vampire. Politically, they're often considered as lords of the general area they live in, and lower-ranked vampires are expected to listen and respect what they say. It's also at this point that a vampire is eligible to become one of the Ten Ancients, though it's rare for a vampire to become an Ancient with less than 1,700 years under his/her belt.

Ten Ancients: The ten oldest vampires in existence, and by effect, the ten most powerful of all. The Ancients seldom involve themselves in the matters of the world, but when they do, everybody else better shut the fuck up and do what they say. They primarily are categorized in this way so that if a situation becomes dire, an Ancient can be called upon depending on their rank and the severity of the incident. The levels of such incidents range from one to ten, with one being the most severe. An index to determine the level of an incident is also written down in The Vampire Code. To date, there have only been four incidents greater than Level Five, and only one that has been ranked at Level Two. The threat of vampire extinction in Japan has been rated as a Level Three incident, and as a result, Priscilla the Ancient - ranked Number Three among the Ancients - has been summoned.

Namtar the First: Known as the godfather of vampire society, Namtar is by far the oldest vampire in the world. His exact age is unknown, but even Number Two of the ancients - Bel of Babylon - is a mere child next to Namtar. He wrote the code that determines a vampire's standing in society, and is revered by those who know of him as something resembling a demigod. An Ancient typically enters a deep sleep until they are needed. In Namtar's case, after writing the codes of vampire society in 1,534BC, he entered a slumber that has remained yet-undisturbed.

For now, I'd say to restrict yourselves to one character a pop, and keep it to vampires for the time being. When we reach the point where the Black Sword arrive in town, I'll probably allow players to take up hunters as well, and will most likely allow a few people a second character if we don't already have a lot of players.

I'd also like to point out that I'm cutting off recruitment at ten players if we get that many so soon. So far, it would appear we have six.

How diverse are vampire abilities, or are they just the stereotypical bread and butter ones?

I'll be putting the things vampires are capable of in a hider in the main post, but other than the typical things, vampires get to enjoy the following powers and possibly a couple others:

Hypnosis (doesn't work if the target is alert; part of why the takeover of Japan didn't go quite as planned)
Converting others into vampires (requires having the vampire-to-be consume a vampire's blood)
Making muscular things appear while screaming "MUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDA! ZA WARUDO!"
Night vision
Turning into a bat (older, more powerful vampires can also turn into a swarm of bats or mist)
Older vampires can also use necromancy to an extent, but it's not easy.

Speaking of old vampires, in addition to my main OC, I'll be dropping in a leader figure; this shall be the oldest - and by effect, strongest - vampire remaining. Do not let your vampire's age exceed 2,100 for this purpose, please.

Hisako

Name: Hisako Saito

Physical Age: 16

Actual Age: 98

Personality: Hisako is, without a doubt, a very selfish girl. Not cruel or rude by any means, but if she had to choose between a small benefit for herself or a massive boon for somebody else, she'd pick herself first, and herself second. There's nothing she'll do that doesn't benefit her, and nothing she won't do if it does. That said, she's a very live-in-the-moment kind of person, who thinks about the now instead of what her actions can do i the long run.

Hisako tends to dismiss her lack of concern for the future by saying "I'm not getting any older, so it doesn't matter." As long as she can keep herself young and cute, Hisako will continually satisfy whatever selfish wishes she has, with no concern for anyone else's well-being or opinion. She's also known to abuse her vampiric powers, especially the hypnosis she's so fond of, to fulfill these desires. Keep your thoughts and your valuables close by when she's around, otherwise she just might take them for her own sake.

Bio: Born in Hiroshima, Hisako has always been hopelessly selfish and quite the pickpocket. She was notorious in school for stealing things other students had that she wanted, and needless to say, she didn't have many friends because of it. Until high school, however, there wasn't much to say, but come high school...

Come high school, Hisako was bitten by a vampire one night on her way home from being held after school for her repituous theft. They gave her some of their blood, and she awakened a few days later as a vampire herself. Sunlight burned as though it were a fire, and silver burned her skin to the touch. It didn't take long before Hisako dropped out of school, and began taking blood from others nightly to maintain her appearance. Then, in August of 1945, the infamous nuclear bombing of Hiroshima happened. To this day, Hisako remembers it like it was yesterday.

The pain of actually surviving a nuclear explosion, watching her home town crumble to ruins around her, and above all else, how unbelievably ugly the radiation had made her. She didn't even care how many people died; Hisako couldn't look in a mirror until she'd mostly recovered a month later by going to other cities and savagely drinking non-irridated blood like there was no tomorrow. Once her appearance and composure had returned, Hisako fled to Kyoto, where she had remained until just recently.

When the Black Sword guys started killing vampires, the first thing Hisako did was pack her stuff and run. She hadn't taken a nuclear explosion in the face just to get killed by some lousy hunter. What she did was set up a tiny sanctuary in a little town just outside Kyoto, inviting a small amount of other vampires to join her once word got around.

Skills: Very skilled at using the powers of hypnosis. She even tamed and domesticated an eagle.

Anything Else: She'd rather die than admit it, but Hisako still has nightmares about the bombing.

Hisako takes insults VERY personally.

Priscilla

Name: Priscilla (surname unknown)
Some of the titles Priscilla has built up over the centuries include "Priscilla the Ancient", "The Black Queen", "Priscilla Blackheart", and perhaps most in/famously, "The Skull Queen"

Physical Age: 25

Actual Age: 2,107

Personality: Priscilla is every bit as haughty and self-righteous as you'd expect somebody of her standing to be. Especially in vampire society, where age determines everything. Permitting debate or questioning only from her fellow Ancients, she is a vampire who has already seen whatever her eternal life can throw her way. As a result, she's extremely quick to come to decisions, and expects others to do as she says. Surprises are known to throw her completely off-guard because of this.

Despite how high she holds herself, however, those who have had her as an ally know that the Skull Queen can and will prove to be a fiercely loyal ally, a leader who aims to improve her underlings, and if one manages to impress her, a compassionate friend. She's also not afraid to join her soldiers on the front lines of battle. Indeed, Priscilla will always be the first to offer to put her life on the line if somebody in the team has to, claiming "I've lived enough to sate even the grandest of kings, and seen enough battle that even Mars himself may never raise a weapon again."

Having said all that, she's been asleep for almost three and a half centuries. The technologies and customs of the modern world are things she hasn't quite gotten a grip on yet, and she's not particularly fond of all the fancy gadgets and gizmos today's world offers.

Bio: The child of a Roman general, Priscilla grew up in a Roman Empire that knew war quite well. She wanted to be a soldier, but there was no place for a female soldier in that day and age. So instead, she became the next best thing. A gladiator, and oh how the people loved her. Before going to take up such a dangerous career, her father had ordered a set of armor be forged for her. Because of the armor's black-as-night color, many Romans who watched her fights came to know her as the Black Queen, a vicious and cunning fighter.

One fateful night, she battled an opponent who had been a gladiator at least twice as long as she. Many called him The Immortal because no matter how much he was wounded, the guy just didn't seem to die. Priscilla had been the one to slay The Immortal, formerly one of the Ten Ancients. To celebrate, she drank her foe's blood. While this custom was normal for her, the blood of The Immortal was a new dish entirely. By means of drinking vampiric blood, Priscilla became a vampire. She awoke the next night surrounded by lesser vampires, welcoming her to their ranks and explaining what had happened.

She took the news surprisingly well. The Black Queen resigned from the gladiator business and made way toward Greece, where she became a sellsword; offering her blade up to the highest bidder. Throughout the centuries, she continued following this path, gaining more and more fame among both vampires and those seeking to hire such people as mercenaries.

In the year 1,357, Priscilla was given the title of one of the Ten Ancients. The ones who had lasted from The Immortal's time were impressed to finally meet the girl who had slain an Ancient without even knowing what she was dealing with. From there, Priscilla's life of battle only intensified. As she became more and more famous as a vampire, vampire hunters also became more aware of her existence and power. Driven to slay her, they came by the dozen. By striking down the hunters, Priscilla was able to hone the powers of necromancy. By 1,672, she had a veritable army guarding her home, and earned the title of Skull Queen. She then entered a deep slumber, planning to only awaken when she was needed.

Fast-forward to now; 2014. Her undead army has decayed to uselessness, and she was quite rudely awakened by a lesser vampire and told about how the takeover of Japan was going awfully. After a short time spent learning the language, Priscilla moved out. This situation called for an Ancient. Now that she's here, only a handful of vampires remain in this nation.

Skills: Priscilla, having come from an empire famous to this day for its impressive military, is a peerless swordfighter and tactician. She also specializes in using the necromantic powers of the vampire to raise the dead.

Anything Else: The armored mask on Priscilla's face conceals a burn she suffered from holy water. The burn will never heal, and reveals her skull plain as day should the mask be removed.

Currently ranked Number Three among the Ancients. This effectively means she's the third-oldest vampire in existence, as well as having only two who are more powerful.

Chiyo Shizune

Name: Chiyo Shizune, “Cheshire Chiyo”

Physical Age: 19

Actual Age: 763

Personality:
Calm and collected, Chiyo is often noted for her ever-present laid back attitude and borderline sarcastic nature. Having been described as a vampire who does not fear death, many would be surprised to discover that this is undeniably true in her case. Chiyo claims to not fear the end, instead choosing to go down with a smile, wherever and whenever that may be. As such, she is rarely seen with any expression other than a pair of lazy eyes coupled with a Cheshire’s grin.

That being said, Chiyo does acknowledge the fact that her species is extremely close to dying out. Therefore, she holds the elusive belief that emotion means nothing in the grand scheme of the real world, and that this whole situation is simply some past time of an omnipotent being beyond her own comprehension. Chiyo claims her only remaining goal in life is to meet “The Superior”, the omnipotent God she claims to be toying with their lives. Quite frankly, the whole idea of it amuses her, making her chuckle every time.

Chiyo will often ponder abstract concepts, asking conceptual questions and voicing out her thoughts aloud, whether they be positive or negative. In short, she is one who speaks her mind.

The only time or reason for Chiyo to falter in her smirks is when the situation is one she does not fully understand or something has deeply upset her. Another aspect of Chiyo is her tendency to act flirtatious towards all genders, male and female alike. Most of the time though, these actions are only there to gauge just how much she can mess with the person.

Bio:
Born and raised in exactly the year 1251, it was thus a time in which great legends were common name and Chiyo found herself in a world of strife and conflict. Because of her origin in the 12th Century, it should be noted that “Chiyo Shizune” is not her real name, but rather a chosen title for when she eventually traveled to Japan. She herself has stated that her birth name has long since been forgotten by others as well as herself.

As far as she can remember-or as far as she’s concerned-nothing of particular interest occurred until one fateful October day in 1307, or commonly known as Friday the 13th. Having been roughly 56 at the time, Chiyo found herself in close-proximity of the Crusader’s massacre site.

At that point in her history as a human, Chiyo had been accused of dark arts, and so was driven away from her initial homeland. Seeking to end her life, Chiyo stumbled upon the bloodied corpses and, in one final act against God’s will, drank the essence of the fallen knights.

Little did she know that a fair amount of the Templars were, in actuality, early vampires. It took some time for Chiyo to recognize that she was no longer human, but once she did, she dedicated her life to traveling the world in the belief that God gifted her with a second chance.

When hearing of a failed attempt to take over Japan in more modern times, Chiyo soon found herself scoping out the renegade vampire camp and eventually deciding to head there herself. Might as well have some fun before she ends up wasting that second chance.

Skills:
Aside from the usual vampirism abilities, Chiyo is most adept in using and manipulating mist transformations. She is so skilled in this specific power alone, that it is even rumored to be next to impossible to land a physical hit on her body, and some have even claimed that she can become fully intangible.

Of course, rumors can be just that; rumors. In addition to her powers as a vampire, Chiyo is also highly adept in using knives for combat.

Anything Else:
Chiyo has a habit of acting overly sadistic towards vampires and humans alike who proclaim they have no desire to live, finding their suicidal intentions as nothing short of hypocrisy. Furthermore, her favorite food is salty blood.

Well here it is. Just a warning though, every history student ever will hate me after this CS.
