If you love original ideas and your old characters, maybe give this game a look?

Apparently I can't get a hider to work here so if you would like to for now you may skip down to the next section titled "How This Game Would Work".
Lore

Galileo, the great arcane, has grown weary of the lack of challenges the universe and its many dimensions have for him, for his powers are great and no other seems to hold even the dimmest of candles to his prowess. In fact, it was this dullness that gnawed at him now that had caused him to begin traveling between dimensions in the first place: boredom. The sickness of being simply and barely content weighed on him so, driving him mad – even more so than when he gained these powers to begin with….
It had been several eras before, the actual time period depending on what universe you hailed from. Galileo had stumbled upon powers, skills, traits, and abilities he had not deserved, but took them anyway and immediately abandoned and forgot his former life and identity, now claiming himself to be a God of sorts. Searching his mind, racking his brain, he sought and sought for a way to dull the apathy eating away at his eternal soul… until….
“Yes, yes... of course…. I’m not the only piece, am I? This isn’t even the only board, so why am I confined to the entertainment only I as a player can provide?!” Even in his realm, the idea of separate dimensions had been tossed around from theorist to scientist to arcane alike, yet none of them held that which Galileo possessed…. The power of a God, and the boredom and carelessness of a child. It mattered naught what abilities those in his own realm were limited to if he could manage to travel to others and hopefully find other powerful beings to observe or toy with. And without even the slightest hesitation or interest in earning the title of being the first of his realm to achieve this feat, Galileo swiftly developed a technique for traveling over, under, through and between the many borders separating the universes and dimensions, immediately jumping from one to the other in search of his entertainment.

As you might guess, this also did not serve to satisfy him for very long. Although their seemed to be endless universes and world’s within them to explore, exploration was not what the arcane sought. Those universes also held beings of great stature, which excited Galileo, but their seemed to be something still missing. It was a great deal of time before Galileo admitted to himself that he wasn’t enough the intellectual to solve the curious case that was the illness of his contentment, and so he began seeking ideas in the minds of others; who else had access to a better focus group than someone who could travel between worlds? It was quite a long journey of knowledge gathering and discarding before Galileo found himself on a planet known as Earth in a simple yet expanding universe, exchanging pleasantries with a Mr. Edward Alexander Crowley. The languages of the world took our arcane no time at all to learn, but their conversation was brief because, suddenly, time itself seemed to stop as the answer became clear to Galileo. He left Mr. Crowley with only the following words while Galileo’s hand rested on his shoulder: “Remember this day, Sir Crowley, because with your help and by the power of knowledge, I, in life, have conquered all universes!” The phrase was uttered moments before the arcane slipped through the dimension’s borders once more, leaving Crowley looking to be a madman. Unfortunately for that world’s prime inhabitants known as humans, the phrase was extremely valuable in knowledge and power, but it wouldn’t be discovered for quite some years that this phrase did not properly translate.

The answer blessed upon our dear time-skipper and world-skimmer that day, dear readers, was of course The Summoner’s Labyrinth.

Of all the amazing specimen he had encountered in the many places he had come across, why hadn’t he thought of such a thing before? He had met them, yes, but the problem lied in that THEY had not met EACH other! They were separated, forced apart by the laws of existence and confined to their own realms and times, but how fortunate of them to be discovered by the great Galileo, and how thankful they’d be to be blessed with his focus once more. Thankful right away? Probably not, but come due time and they’d all be bowing down to him, thanking him for this opportunity to dance with him this eternal dance of solace forever, never to be bored again.

And so, with all of his might and the remainder of himself, Galileo did as he imagined all dimensions were created and intertwined himself with existence and the multiverse itself to create a realm, a universe, a dimension separate of the others, yet one governed by similar laws – one created by him to house he and those worthy for eternity and further after the exam is finished and the first game is played, which just so happens to be a maze full of the inhabitants of other worlds Galileo has encountered during his journey through space, time, and the multiverse that Galileo has deemed able to survive here. However, he has deemed a secondary prize to his eternal company: a wish of their own, no matter how many victors there may be.

How This Game Would Work

After Galileo (The Summoner, his story is found in the "Lore" section above) creates his own realm, he uses his arcane abilities to summon the great specimen of his recollection from all corners of the multiverse. These specimen will be controlled by you, the players, if you haven't already guessed. They will be entities that he has encountered in the past (or even in their present or future, given his ability to transport between time and dimension) and he has deemed worthy of his eternal company. You will be playing a previous character you have made and used in a separate RP and that character will be brought to this universe by Galileo the Summoner himself to "play" in his maze. These characters should be diverse and come from as many worlds, fandoms, ideas, races, etcetera as you can manage (or as you want), though I imagine most if not all will be humanoid or very close considering the average character is such, which is perfectly okay and how the game plays out in my mind anyway. The character will be bringing their entire character sheets with them, plus a CS of my own to add on to it to make sure all our bases are covered. This may sound uneven depending on what character you decide to bring, but don't worry about that; I have that covered and will address it shortly.

You may be asking "how could it be a maze if we're all playing only through text?" Well, most of that is my own surprise, but to answer most of that question, we'll all be playing in separate messages, while the OOC and IC will still exist for their normal purposes. The IC will mainly be used for Galileo's announcements and happenings in the labyrinth that everyone will be experiencing (he will be acting as sort of a "GM" in a tabletop game), and things like that, while the OOC remains the same as any game's. The labyrinth, however, is all too real, and I will have a map of it and be following your positions with a neat little program called ScreenMonkey (a godsend program for tabletop players, in my opinion). Thanks to this websites group messaging system, when players are in parties we will all be able to communicate in the same message thread. Some players may even start out in parties, especially if you'd prefer to.

However, the same goes for party meet-ups and clashes: when two or more parties end up in the same location at the same time, they will all be lumped together in a new message thread to keep track of what is going on. After the parties have separated, the message thread will be reused for other party meet-ups and clashes (if it sounds confusing, it's really not, just hard to give idea without example).

Things to Know/Notes

  • The characters outside of this world will all be considered powerful by their own world's standards (or not powerful if you choose to bring one as such), but while in Galileo's dimension, all of your power will be equated to an extent. E.g., if you choose to bring in character with a weapon forged by a God, that God has no influence here and you now simply have an above-average weapon, while on the other hand if you come in with a minor superpower you may have it leveled up a few notches to stay on par with the others. However, if you choose to play a complete underdog (such as a human or child with no apparent offerings to the group), I will not continue to spare you forever.

  • Characters will be modified in other ways to fit the universe as well if necessary. E.g., you character has a curse that slowly turns them into a beast unless they perform a certain ritual every so often. In this world, they would not need they ritual, but together we'd choose how far along the curse is and it's effects on the character.

  • The Labyrinth is of course laden with a great many of things, be it monsters, towers, traps, gauntlets, weapons, illusions, housing, portals, and so on. You're not only expected to encounter each other, so don't expect an arena game.

  • Unfortunately, this will come down to a completely battle-oriented RP if you all don't produce your own RP moments because I have no control over that, so please do your part and make due with whatever drama you can muster, ranging from romance to harassment. Considering parts of the maze will actually have incorporated towns and townsfolk, it may not be that hard.

  • We will not be playing a constant "we go left... we go right... we go right again... now left..." type of game. A labyrinth or maze does not necessarily have to look like a bunch of lines leading in different directions contained in a box. While I describe settings to you, it will seem as though you are in your own separate RPs (especially those with parties) for a lot of the time, which is part of what is to be intended to be fun in this game.

  • To be in the game, you must be prepared for your character to die, though it's unlikely I'd do it without warning you. I've yet to do that to a player ever.

  • I'm rather certain I'll make the decision to add players in later if I feel we need them, but it's not like your characters would know the difference anyway, and possibly not even you. Just warning you ahead of time.

  • A big part of this game will be built off of references from many, many things, so enjoy that if you get them (there are a couple or so in the lore already).

  • I'm online pretty much constantly, but that doesn't mean I expect you to be, although I might tell some groups to slow down or speed up on posting due to progress of other parties.

The Labyrinth itself will have its many rules and tricks, but I don't want to bog down the interest check with those, I'd just like to see if this idea holds any water in it's current form and to get as many on board as quickly as possible. PLEASE tell me some people are interested?

The game is still currently accepting. If you would like to apply, make sure you've read all of the above and read all of my posts in this thread until my post about character creation, which you should then follow the instructions for.

I'm very interested! I like the interplay between all the different potential worlds and things that will come together. My only question is; what sort of forward action will be used in the RP to make sure people stay invested and interested in an eitherwise somewhat railroaded experience?

Well, at first I was considering going with "do it or die" type things, you know? Like, you're forced to move on because if you don't find a way out, how do you expect to live? But I'd rather leave that as a fallback and I'm currently working on a few other solutions. For a certain few characters, I'd like them to be motivated by the want/need to kick Galileo's ass for ripping them from their world, or maybe even a greedy type actually being in this for the wish Galileo is offering them. I'm still kicking around a few things, but even if a person were to decide not to move on and live off of the natural parts of the labyrinth, I have a little part that kinda makes that impossible.

Again, hoping I don't have to use that fall back. One of juggled ideas will likely be used, but if you guys have anything to fit there to prevent me from having to use a fallback or prevent railroading, I'm all ears.

Not to mention the single wish could be used to go home. Kinda an easy-way-out, but I'm just sayin'.

------edit--------
Quick question to you two: do you think a bunch of backup motivations would do? For instance, we start with the assumption that they want to confront Galileo or want the wish. After all, he may WANT them to stay, but he's just toying with people at this point, so them leaving doesn't pose a problem when he can grab more, or even the same people. Maybe after a certain amount of refusal, he could throw in a threat to kill their loved ones or family, announcing them by name or showing them images (because he can 'see' in his own way where everyone is located), then if that doesn't light a fire under them he steps up to threat of eradicating their realm, leaving them without a home to go to, then as the final fallback for any straggling left, he can simply threaten their lives if they don't push forward as I mentioned earlier? Like, these could go in any order.

Additionally, I was considering adding a few parts to the CS (the one I'm going to have added to your original) that make you outline weaknesses he could exploit, that way it feels less like railroading if I'm targeting specific parts for each person. This is for your speculation, and the first of the few ideas I had kicking around.

Sure, as long as you can show me where it's from. Everybody will have to show me their character being played in another game so that I can confirm they are an old character, along with the original character sheet. If a character's game and sheet for some reason cannot be found, you'll have to make a pretty convincing case to be able to use them, and if you still insist on using that character they will be missing a few traits, abilities, or maybe even memories of my choosing (kinda like Gallie's summon didn't fully work on them).

I just wanna be sure no one creates someone for this game. I'm not trying to be a stickler for rules, but that's the unique trait of this game and I'd hate to lose that. I'm even going to be playing one of my characters in the game as a secondary to playing Galileo, and it's one of my old ones from this site. I can't play the one I originally wanted to play because his character and game were on the old guild. :c He was from an Avatar: The Last Airbender RP about pirates! :D But now I'm going to use one of my more recent role-play characters. His game hasn't gone passed two posts and I'd hate to see him go unused in the event that my partner doesn't come back from her hiatus....

If I join, I'll most likely be bringing a vampire, which begs the question about such matters as sunlight.

First of all, I love your signature.

Second, I love your icon even more.

Third, logistics such as that will be discussed when I know more about my summoned "specimen", and might actually help me shape my world (since Galileo made it). For instance, if you decided that sunlight would be too hard to work around, I could have Gallie design his world to have, in fact, no sun, yet is somehow artificially lit through his own abilities as if a sun were present? Or maybe several moons reflecting far off sunlight into daylight for my world? But if you decided that you wanted the challenge of dealing with the sun, I'd probably just put one in it.

Then, if your opinion conflicts with another player's about the sun, I'd come up with a compromise or simply choose. All of my players will be helping my shape, create, and eventually refine my (Galileo's) realm he has created.... which is basically gonna be referred to for now as "Gallie's playpen." :D Gallie would like his playpen to be the best, most fun playpen ever for all of his new favorite friends. XD

Orchestratic said First of all, I love your signature.

Which one!? D:

That said, I think the sun is a pretty major challenge for a vampire to get around, especially in a maze. The "several moons" idea would probably work, as well as giving us something pretty to look at up in the sky.

I'm pretty interested, as well. :p

I'll probably end up revamping one of my really awful characters from an old roleplay, if that's alright with you?

When we make the characters, you'll have to show me the original and show me what you want changed, and we'll see. That's not a rule a really care about, so you'll more than likely have plenty of freedom on revamping, but again this is to bring together our oldies but goldies. Goin' classic is the best.

Also, the more information that gets revealed before you show me what you want to change, the less you'll get to change so I know you're not changing to fit the game. I want these puzzle pieces to be FORCED into their places, not smoothly slide in. That's why I'll be revealing as little info as possible until Galileo explains it himself. ^-^

---edit---
Or until I describe it myself as the GM IC. That's a thing too.

Oh, also, all who are interested please subscribe to this page and keep checking back until the OOC is up, because a lot of the before-game discussion will be happening in here (and in PMs) that way I can list all the active players in the first post of the OOC so the roster will always be easy to find and edit (thank Mahz for post editing [edit]am I right?).

Sorry UnendingEmpire, I didn't realize they were changing! The one at the time I was referring to was Sayaka from Madoka waving like a lil' cutie.

For now (unless it comes into conflict with another player in a way I don't enjoy), I think I've chosen how my world will be lit, though when we move to character creation I'll need to ask a few more questions about your vamp.
