You know. The reason why Ebola is such an epidemic in Africa is cuz of the overall terrible health over there - like, brought about by lack of sanitary conditions and good, easily accesible medicine and shit.An Ebola outbreak wouldn't happen in the US, or Britain or any other well-developed country for that matter since the hospitals here can handle it and would be able to treat people much more easily. So even if a few cases sprout up from people who went to Africa, I think we can all rest easy knowing that it won't shoot across the continent like the fucking plague or w/e.
Ebola's not exactly a super treatable disease, they only just developed a vaccine for this strain after this outbreak happened. You also can't vaccinate against it yet, and there's different strains of it. The scary part about it is that it takes several days for symptoms to show, and those symptoms could be any number of other common ailments, and if anyone is in contact with you at that point, they run a high risk of infection. You wouldn't know hou had ebola until it's far too late, and the disease has a 90% fatality rate. While I don't doubt we're better equipped to handle an outbreak here than in Africa, it would still be absolutely devastating until it runs its course.
I can't stress this enough: the only way to deal with an ebola outbreak is to quarantine all the victims until they die. This is a seriously horrific disease that does not have an easy or effective solution, or really much in the way of effective treatment.
Edit: Also, Ebola originates from Africa and scientists still really don't understand the source of it. It can't just happen on another continent because it doesn't naturally occur anywhere else than central Africa. It's fucking weird.
