Biography
Zeph is from the world of Aawalt and its city domes her father was a Solomani Trader and her mother a starry eyed romantic from a middle class family when she committed the unpardonable sin giving into her carnal desires and shaming her family.
Born an Elph (Bastard) Zeph in the old days might have been actually left outside the dome to die so her cessation of existence could wash away the crime of her making but that had all changed 74 generations ago when a Citydome had suffered an enormous loss of life. It had been due to sickness and the traders visiting from there saw the unwanted children of another city about to be cleansed. They begged to take these unwanted children and soon traders from there were begging all the City Domes they could to give them these casteless children.
As an Elph Zeph may have ended her days as some elites housekeeper and body servant except for the Lal Emparte (Mandatory Graduation Test). Zeph scored in the top 5% in her city and the top 4.7% worldwide. This meant had she been of a recognized caste Zeph might have gone to college but as Elph she was placed into the Service Lottery and drawn out as a Naval Recruit.
Sent to the Sub Sector Training hub along with almost 25,000 others from the 4 inhabited planets of her star Zeph was once more tested and despite her caste made a Candidate of OCS where her natural understanding of machinery and mathematics fast tracked her into the Engineering School.
She made her way into the Fleet an ensign but still a member of rank she herself had never thought she’d reach and while aboard her first ship a Repulse Class Heavy Cruiser (70,000tons) she was instrumental in restoring the Jump Drives after a fuel line burst that struck down all ranks above Lieutenant and the one assigned above her broke down under the heavy demand of the Command staff.
Zeph became the Go to Girl of her ship and proved so capable that by the time it came for her to reenlist she’d been bumped to a Lieutenant and bound for special training where she graduated top of her class and was bumped once more in rank to Lt. Commander.
Made the Chief Engineer of a Maxwell Class Troop Transport (100,000tons) Zeph was Mistress of her realm and any who wore the badge of an engineer her loyal vassals.
For the first time Zeph had felt able to relax as CEO of the “Wandering Turtle” once she had everyone doing things her way and earning a boost to the Rank of Commander in a lackluster patrol cruise based solely on her record of achievements.
Then they intruded on her life; her commander the Fleet Engineer who was the Wife of a Lord and Captain in her same fleet as well. They wished to make her Syph (Protector of Blood or in description the surrogate mother to their children) and her child seen as pure of crime and a minor member of the Noble family (Opps forgot to mention the Lord would be the Child’s Baby Daddy)
They were of the Noble ranks of Zeph”s Homeworld and were pressuring her to be what she had no desire to be and she wasn’t so foolish as to believe she could steer a course wide of them in the Fleet so this enlistment she cashed out, paid any and all debts escaping clean with little more than the clothes on her back.
