This is a one-on-one RP between PopeAlessandros and Jiskastya. Not us, don't post.

Base Idea:

The beast has always felt, just a little different from his fellows, and after a particularly bad incident with his pack mates he leaves for the nearest human settlement to let them cool their heads. There he comes across a young apprentice who is often mistreated by his fellow humans. Feeling a kind of kinship with the young human the beast worms his way into the young man's good graces and becomes his pet, the boy none the wiser as to the magical nature of the beast. After some time the boy decides to leave the settlement, tired of the treatment, and travels together with the beast, trying to find a place to call home. The best stays by the boy's side, however in their travels they often meet with other magical beasts that to not appreciate the beast's presence. The humans know nothing of the magical animals, and the beast must work hard with each clash he has with his clan that the boy never finds out.

~*~*~*~*~*~

Okay, so you wanted to start with the definition of the beast, right?

Lol. So we would hope.

Yup. If the magic beasts aren't known in this world, it probably means that they are concealed somehow, or look exactly like the normal beasts. So how are they hidden, and what makes them magic? Those are the two things I want to know. Other than that, I'm content to just jump in.

Well I would imagine that we can either go with the simpler option of the beast looking totally like a normal earth based animal, but with a human/ mostly human like form it can take which would be part of his magic, but other than that a base of magical skills running along the more nature sphere and/or concealment magics.

OR

We can go with a more fantasy like world with non normal earth looking animals/beasts that all humans think are feral/unintelligent that are considered either monster/wild animals giving us a broader range of options for your beast. Also I would consider these "Monsers" tamable to a degree so there would be wild dog like beasts and tamed ones, but not the. . . . .As in there is no Canis Domesticus, simple a wild dog like thing that has been trained as a pet. If that makes any sense. I always loved the idea of a special kind of people who can tame wild beasts as a vocation. No that the tame animals don't breed, but more that this is way before the true domestication of animals. . . . Anyways, this would be the same as above, maybe with a few more combat based magics/skills(Still with a human/mostly human like form), but this is mostly to allow for us to come up with some funky beasts AS we play :P

Basically it's the difference between Harvest Moon and Rune Factory, if that makes any sense :P Minus the gardening monster bit. Either work for me. One is more simple and less likely to cause conflict, and one's more my area of "Study" as it were.

Oki doki. We should leave the "Beast" thing open for now so we can just build them as we go. However I do think there should be a distinction between beasts that can be tamed, and ones that no one's tried to tame because they seem too wild. Not anything specific, just an understanding that that is the case with some kinds of beasts :P

So, funky beasts, some tamable, some not, and. . . . .Just humans? To keep it simple? Also, I was seeing midevil swords and sorcery era. Oh! And we have to decide if there is magic that humans know about, or is that all hooey as far as they are concerned.

Sure. Some beasts people haven't tried to tame. In fact, I would say the majority of them are that way, especially since the beasts get more and more wild the further from human civilization, and there are probably many beasts people didn't know about.

I'm really imagining this world as being highly fortified but highly isolated cities, in the middle of wild territory filled to the brim with wild beasts and strange plants. The cities are ancient, originally built upon crossing ley lines of safety that prevent the most absurd of the beasts from drawing close with harmful intentions. That is why it is such a massive undertaking for your character to leave the city and try and go somewhere else.

I think just humans would probably be for the best.

The way I'm kind of seeing magic in this world is as specific traits that are linked to individual species, rather than having some aether pool that anyone or anything can draw from and shape in any way. So, since humans don't have any of those specific traits, they probably wouldn't really believe in magic, although I could see superstition running rampant.

Yeah, I agree. A fairly small number of kinds of beasts that have been tamed. And since the towns are so isolated and put in places with natural protection, the further they move out from the village the more unusual the beasts.

I agree about the town set-ups. Maybe a few more open places on the open plains and stuff, but most places deep in wilderness and away from other towns.

Yes, humans, good. Agreed.

Okay, so were going with the “Magic is within” rather than “The magic is all around us” setting. I can work with that. . . . .Hmmmmmm. . . . . .I like the superstition thing :P

Oki, oki, oki. . . . Do we wanna poke a plot a little bit, or is it character time?

I think it is character time. We need to pick a setting, though. I kind of have an idea forming in my head, but it would require your character's village/city thing to be in the middle of a forest, kind of near the mountains. That alright with you?

I can see that. It works for me. Do you want me to drop the empty template again or do you wanna grab it yourself from the other thread? I should have my character dome some time tonight, if not tonight then tomorrow definitely.

Ah, that's right. I forgot that you liked character sheets. Sure, go ahead and give it to me, or I'll just wait until you are done and model off of the one you use.

Name: Kir-Kon(Key-er-con)

Race: Human

Age: 22

Height: 5' 2”

Weight: 130lbs

Hair: Shoulder length, chocolate brown, shaggy, kept tied back with a leather strap, bangs chin length and cover face most of the time.

Eyes: Black

Skin: Tanned from working outside.

Build: Well muscled but not bulging.

Clothes: Simple earth tone tunics, mostly a bit tattered and old looking, not really fitting properly. Worn brown highwater cloth breeches. Simple brown soft leather shoes.

Accessories: Flimsy strip of brown leather to tie hair back, tied around wrist when not in use. Simple hair clip to hold back bangs when needed, kept clipped to sleeve when not in use. Small tear shaped pendant on a leather string. Black leather belt worn over the tunic around the waist, like the rest of the outfit simple and not in the best condition.

Powers/Skills(If Applicable): Has a wide variety of basic skills based around manual labor, mostly focusing on construction and working a forge. No other specific kills of note.

General Personality: Having a very bleak outlook on life, Kir-Kon has no apparent drive beyond wanting to live, and even that he seems to do halfheartedly. He avoids social events, feeling suffocated in crowds, and tends to freeze up when it comes to talking to people. He does not feel right in his community, and they return the feeling making him certain there is something wrong with him. He does not trust happy feelings, as he believes they are fleeting and there is no point in getting excited over something that will be gone soon. Though feeling completely alienated in his village, he feels hopeless in his inability to do anything about it, almost certain he'd be better off dead. However his drive to live drifts along, keeping him from giving up altogether and he works hard despite himself.

Background: Kir-Kon was abandoned as a child on the outskirts of the village for some unknown reason and nearly died left out in the cold. However the village elder found him on one of her hikes in the surrounding forest and took him home despite how he made her feel. Though not formally adopted into her family, he was given a room in the basement whee he was poked and prodded by the children of the household for many weeks. The elder had to put her foot down rather hard to keep him from being put back out, however eventually it was decided that he could stay in the house at least until he could lift a hammer. By then at least he would have a useful skill.

Growing up in that household was unpleasant to say the least, not that those outside the house were any better. He was the butt of every joke, the focus of all pranks and teasing, and by the time he was able to leave, he was glad in his own muted way. He took up residence in the workshop of the local blacksmith and learned what he could from the man. Now away from the torment he was able to relax a little, however there was still so much awkwardness that it was little better. The one perk was less time around people, as the blacksmith liked working alone, or with just his assistant. When an official journeyman blacksmith came to town however he took over Kir-Kon's job and once more the now young man needed someplace to stay.

He eventually found a place with the local stable master in the beast stables on the edge of town where many of the milk and wool giving beasts are kept. He is the night watchman, and during the day he takes odd jobs around town. His pendant it the only thing he really owns other than the clothes on his back, and it takes all the money he ears to keep himself fed. The people of the town are not above making him pay more than other villagers and do so quite often. He has a few tunics and two pair of pants that he keeps in the loft where he sleeps, however all are less than stellar in appearance and most have stains along with being rather ratty. He gets knocked around quite often by the stable master, who has a drinking problem, and carries a nasty scar from a burn that covers most of his left shoulder from a time that the man's drunken behavior lit the barn on fire. He had been ordered to try and save the livestock and been struck by a bean that pinned him for several seconds. He carries may other scars from various things, but the burn mark is the largest.

This guy. . .Came from a place I don't look at very often. . . .He's really not my style, but apparently he's the guy for the job. . . . .I hope you like him. . . .

One of my pets died today, and I think I told you how I meet my characters. He showed up, said he's the guy in this story, and I couldn't help but write him. Truth is, he's not really dark, he's just never had anything inspire him. He has a faint affinity for animals, and I can see once he has the beast as his pet, he will begin recovering. He has a REALLY good reason to want to leave, and he's strong, so it won't be completely insane for him to leave and expect to live. I didn't seek this guy out, but he showed up, and I can see good in his future, recovery, and even if this RP ends up a flop again, I'm sure we'll get far enough that he's not a completely hopeless character by the time we reach that point. Think of it like, he just needs one person/thing to accept him, and he'll begin changing. A pet is a perfect motivator.

Oh, Pope, I'm sorry to hear that! *hug*

Do I need to use a character sheet for this? Or could I give you a picture, and then offer up a few changes that would make it pretty much perfectly suited for this story?

I am morally opposed to using pictures that were not specifically drawn FOR the character. So, I would really prefer you didn't, though I can't force you not to, however I will most likely end up asking a crap tone of questions about your character before I would be comfortable starting. I would love it if you'd use the CS, but again, I can't force you.

Thanks. . .*Huggles*

What if the character is literally based off of the picture? I would have never had this idea if I hadn't seen the picture, so in that way it is FOR the character.

That's still using someone else's work for your own benefit. Even if it's what inspired you, the artist didn't draw it for you and your character. It is a character they made, with their story behind it, for their own reasons. But like I said, I can't stop you, so I won't try. I'm just letting you know how I feel about it. I must admit, I have used pics to give a general idea of side characters, but main characters are kinda on their own tier for me. To me, if you can see the pic, you can describe your character in words, adding your own personal touches and flare to make the character your own. But again, I can't make you conform to what I wont, and I would never try and make you. I'm just very protective of my own artistic creations and wouldn't want people using my characters for such things. 'Cept fanfiction, but I doubt that will ever happen with my RP guys :P

... Fine, Pope. I'll play by your rules.

This is going to take a while.

Name: N/A As he is not a human, and has never needed to identify himself as a human, he has never had need of a name. His existence is more than enough for him.

Race: Part of The Pack.

Age: The eldest of his pack by far, he has seen the coming and going of a countless number of pups.

Height: The top of his head would reach about to Kir-Kon's chest.

Weight: 180lbs

Physical Appearance: He is long and sleek, more catlike than doglike in movement, although his appearance is reminiscent of both canine and feline. He has long, dark, thick hair that works as well as any armor, but underneath it is a layer of short, orangish brown fur that can occasionally be seen through the guard hair. The only place that does not have the guard hair is his nose, and because of that it is most susceptible to attack. The many scars on his nose speak to the battles he have been in, and many more are hidden behind the fur which does eventually grow back in.

His nose is long and sharp, somewhere between dog and marten, and filled with needle sharp teeth designed for puncturing and ripping. Starting where his snout begins to connect to his head and running all the way along his head to his neck is the start of many long feelers, which grow out from among his fur. When he is not under attack these feelers lay flat along his neck and back, but they are completely opposable and he is capable of moving them freely and using them, whip-like, when under threat. Each of these feelers is capable of splitting open into a large number of hair-like filaments, which are incredibly sensitive and he uses in substitute for eyes. This is because the space where most carnivorous animals would have eyes is covered by two of his longest feelers, as well as the space in between them. Each of his feelers are leathery and almost the same color as his fur, but each feeler, especially near the base where it joins in with his main body, has orange tinged chips in them. There is another one of these chips, significantly larger than the others, in his chest, although it is almost entirely hidden by his fur. When he activates his magic, these chips will all glow a fiery shade of orange.

His tail is long and ropelike, and most of the way down its length the fur transitions into the same leathery material that makes up his other feelers. At the very end is a small stinger, surrounded by more of the orange chips. Each of his paws possesses a set of dagger-like retractable claws. The pads on his feet are paler than his brown-orange undercoat, and are slightly rubbery which allows him to keep traction on almost any surface.

Half again as large as any of his packmates, he has become a king among his species. Despite the competitive and territory-hungry nature of the Packs, very few other pack princes dare challenge him, and even fewer survive the challenging to keep their own pack.

Powers/Skills: His most obvious ability is the same ability that is present in all of the Packs, albeit mostly on a smaller scale. Every member of the pack has a small ability in elemental creation and manipulation. Most commonly the element is air, although fire and earth show up relatively frequently. Occasionally, like him, a pup is born with the ability to manipulate two or three elements. He is capable, on a small scale, of manipulating air, water, and fire.

However, his more significant, albeit less used ability, is a form of shapeshifting. Up until this point he has yet to consciously use this ability, but it is the thing that has kept him from aging with the rest of his Pack. As the years have crept by it has slowly made him larger, stronger, more physically capable than the other members of his species in every way, but it has also made him more intelligent, to a point equal to or even greater than most humans. This is what eventually leads him to conflict with his pack, and to the eventual separation.

I had a really tense, drawn out fight with TShara on the subject of using pics. If you really wanna throw one in, feel free, just please cite the artist, or at the very least the site you got it from. That is the crux of my moral objection is using with out citation, however I have other reasons for asking for people not to use pics, but apparently these reason mean I'm a pretentious ass, so, whatever. . . . Use your pic. . . .
