What word is Haru using for "ma'am", or did you give it that much thought? 'cause "ma'am" makes me think "oba-san", which is aunt, and is used to refer to a grown woman who's name you don't know.

In secondary school I ate with one friend outside a few times but the kids there liked to pick on us so we didnt do it much. I was more thinking about primary school, when I was little I would eat outside alot

She's says Ma'am to refer a woman in a respective and polite manner whom she isn't close to. It will change to Sugarcube when she is fond of that person and are friends :T but Ma'am is basically her version of saying Last name-sama.
