John also carries with him an arsenal of many lesser magical artifacts to aid him in battle. Both his father and mother are apt stage magicians as well as supreme sorcerers. As a personal skill, he can fling cards at over forty miles per hour. He makes his cards out of plastic ATM cards, metal sheets like silver or cold iron, slips of wood from various trees, If given the time, he will always inscribe symbols of power upon the surface, even if it is so risky as to use his own blood, but a sharpie is easier.
Back Story:
"Nature abhors a vacuum, the nature of magic more-so, so here I am."
Child of a tryst, he was brought up backstage rearing rabbits and practicing with pigeons. They would alternate guardianship when they would meet every year at the international magician's convention or occult convention, whichever was most recent after the latest world-threatening peril so that person should be karma-clear for the next few months. He was never allowed to attend any adventures, but was allowed to watch from a crystal ball to learn from a semi-safe distance and often did much of the prep-work when his parents were on their way back for the second round.
When Darkside expelled all heroes and villains, metahuman, martian, and magical. It released phenomenal amounts of arcane energy from those pinnacles of power like doctor fate and Faust to those remaining receptors to fill the gaps. For over a decade he had knowledge without power, now he had the power with the focus base to prevent from flying off the handle.
