"Ah...I suppose..." The boy watched as the cigarette was quickly put out, a bit relieved that he wouldn't have to explain the possible asthma attack after all. He really appreciated it. "I have...am eighteen." He looked back up at her as he answered, searching for a moment for the right words before speaking them out. It still felt a bit strange to say something like that for some reason.

"twenty." Jess replied. "Everyone who's dead is older than twenty one." She said pulling handfuls of I.D. cards out of her pockets. "Jon Ruther, 25, Kat Quarterly 54, James McDonald 22," She said listing off a few. "Anyone older than twenty one is dead." She said dropping the rest of the cards on the grounds and watching them slide on the pavement. "Every damn one."

Sonja stared at the cards for a moment. "Why were you...never mind, I doubt it matters now." He shook his head and sighed. "At least we're getting somewhere. If that's true, though, we definitely have a problem. For one thing, that leaves a lot of younger children without caretakers..." He grimaced at the thought of what that could result in. "We have to do something about this...maybe if we found all the other elder people among those left alive, we could come up with a plan or find out exactly what happened."

"Alright, but lets get to higher ground." She said walking towards the nearest Fire Exit and jumping up, pulling it down.

"Higher ground?" The bespectacled boy watched as she pulled down the fire escape before moving to follow her, not entirely certain of her plan. Perhaps it was to make it easier to look for people? It kind of made sense. As he approached, he realized that he never actually caught her name. That probably wasn't the best way to go about meeting people. "Ah...I'm sorry that I forgot...but my name is Sonja. And it's not a girl's name where I'm from, so please don't start on that." One of the reasons why he had always preferred books to people was because of the teasing that he used to get for his name. People here just didn't seem to get it when he was a bit younger, and the fact that he had actually looked a bit more feminine back then probably didn't help his case. It hadn't been a problem for a while now, but it still remained a habit of his to expect it.

Everyone agreed with her plan. She left the guys moving the patients. They wanted to put as many of the living patients together as they could. But first they had to deal with the dead. They decided just to store them in the basement for now. It wasn't the nicest thing to do put they had to get them moved quickly. They could bury them later. Right now they needed to worry about the living. While the guys moved the dead she and the girls sorted supplies.

Jess put out her hand. "Jess Juno. It's not a girl's name where I'm from either." She joked. "You can call me by either name." She said giving a half smile.

Sonja smiled back as he accepted her hand and firmly shook it. "It's nice to meet you then, Jess. Circumstance aside, of course." If one was paying very close attention, it could be noticed that the boy had pronounced her name in a way that sounded almost like 'Chi-yess' rather than Jess. It was subtle, but still there.

Jess cocked her head to the side. "Say my name again." She said to Sonja, beginning to climb up the fire escape.

The boy gave her a slightly confused look as he started to follow. "Ch...Jess?" He still said it the same way as before, not sure why she wanted him to do so. There must have been some reason, though.

"You have an accent." She pointed out grinning. "That's awesome, where are you from?" She asked as she got to the roof.

"I thought I got it right this time. I guess it still needs work." The boy sighed and let a slightly thicker accent show through as he spoke again. "I'm from Berlin. My whole family is. Or was. I don't know how far this might have spread."

Jess's eyes lit up and she grabbed Sonja's shoulders. "Du Sprechs sie Deutsch?!"

"J-Ja. Ich spreche Deutsch. Du sprichst auch?" Sonja was startled by this sudden reaction, but a little more surprised that she also seemed to speak the same language.

Jess grinned from ear to ear. "Ja, Ich Spreche eine Bissen Deutsch! But I only remember a bit. I took German before I dropped outta school." She said rubbing the back of her head.

"Ah, I see. That's good to know, actually. Kind of comforting, somehow." Indeed, the revelation did seem to calm him somewhat. Even if she only knew some of the language, it felt like a good connection had been made there. "I've been studying this language for a while, but there are still some things that I really don't get. Maybe we could help each other out sometime." Sonja looked around the roof briefly. "Ah...what are we looking for again?"

"People." She said looking outwards. "I don't see anyone." She said getting jittery.

Sonja looked out over the streets as well. Where was everyone? "Perhaps in another area? Maybe people have found a place to gather already...where would people normally go in a crisis?"

"Dunno, Maybe a public building like A school or a shelter..." She said shrugging. "The police maybe?"
