I've noticed that in a few roleplay requests I've skimmed through, some people want to RP opposite of (or RP) a real person. No, not Abraham Lincoln, but, say an employee of Rooster Teeth Productions (the creators of Red vs. Blue and RWBY), or the cast of Mythbusters. Does anyone have views on this? For or against, either one. I'd like to hear.

You mean roleplay as an existing person?

Cause I've seen RL themed RP's all the time, high school life, fighting in a real war etc.
But specifically going "We're the mythbusters!" is a new one... and I had over 20k posts from RP's back on the old guild.

Personally, if that's what people want to do then more power to them. But it's not something that I personally would have any interest in joining.

The cast of Mythbusters is new to me, but wanting to RP as or opposite of real people isn't unheard of. I've seen more RPF than actual roleplays, but it's usually pretty harmless. Haven't you ever had a crush on a celebrity? I think roleplaying as or opposite of them is just an extension of wanting to play out that fantasy and probably self-insert an OC.

Although there is something a little different that involves celebrity/celebrity, and that has crossed the line with real people many, many unfortunate times. The most recent one that I can think of is Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto from Star Trek where a few people in the fandom thought it would be okay to show them their smut fanfics and ask if they were dating. And I believe there was also an incident with Rooster Teeth specifically, although I don't know that it was RP related, but a fan had accused one of them of being a closeted bisexual.

Really, though. As long as people aren't up in anyone's face with their writing, I stand by my original statement of it being mostly harmless. It's still a little weird though.

When I saw the title of this thread, i was all ready to defend the fact that pretty much all of my characters are based off of people I know. Then I read the OP.

I guess my opinion on this is "Whatever" (As is my opinion on most things), if you want to do it, fine with me.
