It is 57th galactic year, the year 2450CE, nearly 400 years since the human race became the first to travel faster than light. Their technology spread throughout the galaxy as they flourished, as pioneers at the forefront of technological advancement. Many men and women struck out to form their own great nations, many of which survive to this day. Yet, although humans are powerful, they are not the only inhabitants of our Milky Way galaxy. There are many others; many more who thrive and prosper as they do. There are many, perhaps dozens of other nations in the galaxy, some forged by warfare, others by business and trade, and others by religion. The majority, of course, by a slew of complex factors.

It is the year 2450CE, a time of change for the galaxy.

And that's the currently WIP introduction for my sci-fi roleplay. Yes, it is a high sci-fi NRP, so there may be some issues in regards to technology, but that is one of the many things I hope to refine with my interest check.

(Note-the following is not the list of rules for the final rp, just some ideas I especially want opinions on)

1. The human race isn't as it usually is in most sci-fi. Humans, for the most part, are in a position of much power, although their general disunity and the fact that there are many other nations that are highly powerful means that they can't simply just steamroll the entire Milky Way. They have gained a certain reputation amongst the species that know them, though, as particularly defiant, persistent, and adaptive. When they were faced with a barrier that seemed impossible to cross, they found a loophole. When they faced an enemy which seemed far more powerful than themselves, they turned the very bodies of their enemies against them. That's the kind of motif I want humans to posses, at least to some extent. Obviously, not every man or woman will be the same. Other human nations could have drastically different histories, but I at least know that the larger human nation will be shaped by that persistence. To an extent, by many, humans are feared - to some, respected. For many nations, they introduced a technology - warp (or Alcubierre) drive - that has become the galactic standard for FTL travel. Yes, some likely do use other methods, and, yes, some may have achieved FTL travel before humans did. The point is, humans aren't the galaxy's punching bag. They're a force to be reckoned with. At the very least, they can cause drastic changes, though any other species can do the same.

2. Keeping things grounded in reality. Is there magic? No. Psionics? Nope, unless you can provide a scientific explanation. Maybe, through extreme genetic and cybernetic engineering, although I have yet to admittedly decide on this. On one hand, psionic power itself is a powerful statement, but my worry is that people can use it to mangle science. If you're doubtful of my warp drive, keep in mind that NASA itself is working on a warp drive. It's conceptual, but, if you look it up, they designed a potential craft and named it Enterprise. We have even learned how to teleport photons, and it's very possible that we could eventually make matter out of energy, according to Imperial College London.

3. Biodiversity is key. It's not terribly likely that you'll will get near-humans unless they're in an environment extremely similar to Earth. Even then, the chance is still quite low. I'm fine with humanoids and bipeds, but I would prefer to stay away from pointy-eared humans unless there is a good reason. On that note, I'm perfectly alright with strange biology, as long as it makes sense. Aliens don't necessarily have to be carbon-based, although that will likely be more prevalent.

4. Originality. Obviously, you can take inspiration from other sources, but I'm not going allow people to copy-paste something, apply a new coat of paint, and call it original.

5. This RP will likely be mid-casual to advanced in terms of required skill level. I'm also planning to include the ability to play individual characters, organizations, and other such groups.

-Preliminary App Sheets-

Nations-
Name:
Location:
Flag:
Form of Govt. and Applicable Leader(s):
History:
General Military Information:
Other:

Organizations:

Type:
Logo/flag(if applicable)
Location:
History:
Other:

Living Entities:
Name or Designation:
Race/Species:

So, what do you all think? Questions, criticism, or anything in particular that you like? Obviously, this RP is still in development, and subject to plenty of change.

I'm going to put forward some possible interest in this. And since you said the points were up for discussion, I'll give my opinion on them.

1. I like it; it's a nice change from the typical norm of the human race being either the newcomers or the underdogs.

2. My opinion on the matter of psionics and the like is that it should be allowed, but it shouldn't be overpowered and a sort of 'sci-fi' magic that can beat technology every time. After all, psionics can provide for some rather interesting nations and races (so long as nobody tries to use psionics as a justification for an entire overpowered race of beings). You could have races that come have it naturally, and perhaps look down on those who can only achieve it through genetic and cybernetic modification or something. Just a thought, since right now I'm just vomiting my thoughts out onto this post.

3. I agree completely. When your imagination's the limit, the galaxy shouldn't be full of rubber-forehead aliens unless there's a reason for it.

4. Once again, complete agreement.

5. Cool.

Considering making an application now. Good Sci-Fi sandboxes are hard to come by and this seems promising.

If I might make a suggestion though, you may want to consider some sort of unifying plot arc that encourages us to cooperate/compete with one another. Open world RPs, especially when you have an entire galaxy to play in, are easy for people to be isolated in. Some sort of galactic congress where each player is represented would be a neat way to get people to interact. Open NRPs need something to drive everyone together, otherwise the RP becomes a collection of unrelated plotlines.

Call me interested in playing as a human spinoff faction consisting of a coalition of colonies recently unifying against outside economic and political pressure after discovery of motherloades of ultrarare elements in their cluster. Which is also drawing attention to some of their radical transhumanism programs and development of eudaimundic societies built on robotic and biosynth labor.

Although I can play an alien faction of living metal creatures if that would be more appropriate.

Was gonna wait for the OOC, but it might be the best time to ask. Jeddaven, would ravenous space bugs raise any objections?

Well, I like the precursor theme in sci fi; How about the game space is filled with remnants of a defunct galactic empire with super tech? It'll give us an incentive for conflict (To get that precious technology)

I'm personally going to play as a nomadic armada of warrior monks who roam around serving as a mercenary force for other nations to maintain itself while searching for it's lost home.

It would appear so. Or maybe they're just busy, or maybe they stopped visiting the site for a few days because it had all but stopped working for a while there.
