It is 57th galactic year, the year 2450CE, nearly 400 years since the human race became the first to travel faster than light. Their technology spread throughout the galaxy as they flourished, as pioneers at the forefront of technological advancement. Many men and women struck out to form their own great nations, many of which survive to this day. Yet, although humans are powerful, they are not the only inhabitants of our Milky Way galaxy. There are many others; many more who thrive and prosper as they do. There are many, perhaps dozens of other nations in the galaxy, some forged by warfare, others by business and trade, and others by religion. The majority, of course, by a slew of complex factors.
It is the year 2450CE, a time of change for the galaxy.
And that's the currently WIP introduction for my sci-fi roleplay. Yes, it is a high sci-fi NRP, so there may be some issues in regards to technology, but that is one of the many things I hope to refine with my interest check.
(Note-the following is not the list of rules for the final rp, just some ideas I especially want opinions on)
1. The human race isn't as it usually is in most sci-fi. Humans, for the most part, are in a position of much power, although their general disunity and the fact that there are many other nations that are highly powerful means that they can't simply just steamroll the entire Milky Way. They have gained a certain reputation amongst the species that know them, though, as particularly defiant, persistent, and adaptive. When they were faced with a barrier that seemed impossible to cross, they found a loophole. When they faced an enemy which seemed far more powerful than themselves, they turned the very bodies of their enemies against them. That's the kind of motif I want humans to posses, at least to some extent. Obviously, not every man or woman will be the same. Other human nations could have drastically different histories, but I at least know that the larger human nation will be shaped by that persistence. To an extent, by many, humans are feared - to some, respected. For many nations, they introduced a technology - warp (or Alcubierre) drive - that has become the galactic standard for FTL travel. Yes, some likely do use other methods, and, yes, some may have achieved FTL travel before humans did. The point is, humans aren't the galaxy's punching bag. They're a force to be reckoned with. At the very least, they can cause drastic changes, though any other species can do the same.
2. Keeping things grounded in reality. Is there magic? No. Psionics? Nope, unless you can provide a scientific explanation. Maybe, through extreme genetic and cybernetic engineering, although I have yet to admittedly decide on this. On one hand, psionic power itself is a powerful statement, but my worry is that people can use it to mangle science. If you're doubtful of my warp drive, keep in mind that NASA itself is working on a warp drive. It's conceptual, but, if you look it up, they designed a potential craft and named it Enterprise. We have even learned how to teleport photons, and it's very possible that we could eventually make matter out of energy, according to Imperial College London.
3. Biodiversity is key. It's not terribly likely that you'll will get near-humans unless they're in an environment extremely similar to Earth. Even then, the chance is still quite low. I'm fine with humanoids and bipeds, but I would prefer to stay away from pointy-eared humans unless there is a good reason. On that note, I'm perfectly alright with strange biology, as long as it makes sense. Aliens don't necessarily have to be carbon-based, although that will likely be more prevalent.
4. Originality. Obviously, you can take inspiration from other sources, but I'm not going allow people to copy-paste something, apply a new coat of paint, and call it original.
5. This RP will likely be mid-casual to advanced in terms of required skill level. I'm also planning to include the ability to play individual characters, organizations, and other such groups.
