[OOC] Naruto: The Rookie Nine

Greetings! Welcome to a brand new Roleplay that I hope will be enjoyable for everyone. The goal of this roleplay is for each player to take on the role of a member of the Rookie Nine starting the morning of the Academy Graduation. Canon history for each character is in place, but will allow for slight adjustments that would make sense in character. For example, Shino having knowledge of ROOT or Hinata already knowing how to Tree Walk. If it can be argued from a world state that they have these skills, I'll most likely allow it. Gender bending is allowed, but please try and stay true to the character's personality/history.

I will be needing a minimum of eight other people to join as a genin, and would greatly prefer another three in order that we might have actual players take control of Kurenai, Kakashi, and Asuma. The Jounin Sensei's will act as assistant GM's. If we are unable to find a full twelve roleplayers for this RP, I will do my best to GM the Senseis. Additionally, the rookies are allowed full control over their families/clans. The player in control of Kiba will have full control of all Inuzuka characters for example.

The story direction for this RP will be similar to canon, however it will deviate in both tone and direction as the plot progresses until it eventually becomes a true Alternate Universe. Tone will hopefully be more in line with the gruesome world of ninja and there will be no talk-no-jutsu/deus ex machina. On this note, anyone applying for the role of Naruto will be held to a higher standard in order to avoid Godmodding or the like. I will be playing the role of Sasuke in order to help with this. My goal is to develop the internal military system and political standings amongst the factions of Konoha. The genin will be trained as actual soldiers. This will allow for more interactions between the teams and character development.

Every character will start with canon jutsu, but will be allowed to develop custom or canonical jutsu as it makes sense within the RP.

One final note in order to shake things up a bit from canon, Teams will be a first come/first serve basis. Your character is not relegated to their canonical teams. For example Shikamaru could end up being on Team Seven with Hinata and Shino. In order to allow everyone the best possible choice, I'll choose my team last.

Anyways, it is my hope that this will become a great story we can all develop together. Onto the rules!


-My word is law. I will always strive to hear everyone out and provide a drama-free forum, but at the end of the day I am in charge.
-OOC drama/conflict is forbidden. If you are concerned about another player, please contact me privately and I will do my best to help resolve the situation. Let's keep the forum clear of such pettiness.
-18+. This Roleplay will become somewhat dark and mature. Romance is freely allowed, but please fade to black during the actual forum. Take all sexy times to private chat. Sexy time is prohibited for genin until after they reach seventeen years of age. No underage erotic roleplay.
-Quality. This RP is for at minimum, intermediate role players.
-Posting. I request that all who join post a minimum of 3-5 paragraphs and do so bi-weekly. Players will be contacted at one week of inactivity and dropped at two weeks. Please let me know if something happens and you will not be able to post. Real life happens.
-No God modding, OOC in the IC, or any other newbie RPer blunders.



-Jounin/Naruto Applications. Jounin will be considered assistant GMs if chosen. The Jounin/Naruto application will be held to an advanced RP standard.
-Players are limited to one character. Two are only allowed if playing both a Jounin and Genin. Players control the family members of each rookie.

History:
Sasuke is the second and youngest son of the Uchiha clan head: Fugaku Uchiha, and his wife Mikoto. During his early childhood, Sasuke greatly admired his older brother Itachi, wanting to be more like him. Even though he would often be too busy to hang out with Sasuke, they would enjoy what little quality time they could together. Despite his love for Itachi, Sasuke constantly lived in his older sibling's shadow, who was an acknowledged prodigy viewed by the Uchiha as a genius, and whose work would further strengthen the bonds between the village and the clan. Sasuke's father in particular took an active interest in Itachi, thereby neglecting Sasuke. Itachi, on the other hand, was rather ambivalent and full of oddly conflicting undercurrents, acknowledging Sasuke by taking interest in his progress as a ninja and spending time playing with him when even their father did not. Despite consistently scoring at the top of every class, Sasuke failed to receive any recognition from his father beyond comparing his success to his older brother. Itachi acknowledged the rivalry Sasuke felt telling him: "We are brothers. I am the wall you must climb over, so you and I will continue to exist together."

When Sasuke was at age 7, the relationship between Itachi and his father deteriorated after Itachi was questioned by other members of the Uchiha clan regarding the apparent suicide of his best friend, Shisui. As Itachi's behaviour became increasingly bizarre, Sasuke's father began spending more time with Sasuke, and began teaching him the Great Fireball Technique, a common family technique seen as a sign of coming of age in the Uchiha clan. When Sasuke first tried to perform the technique, he only produced a small flame and after that, some smoke. His father said that Itachi was able to do it on his first try at Sasuke's age, which disappointed him. Later, with one week of training, Sasuke performed the technique in front of his father, proving himself a prodigy as well in his own right and finally receiving his father's individual recognition rather than comparison to Itachi. Sasuke's father told him that he could now proudly wear the clan's emblem on his back. Following this, Sasuke also received a stern warning not to follow in Itachi's footsteps any further, surprising him as before, he was told to be like him; and his father showing he was proud of Sasuke for the first time the same way as he used to with Itachi.

On one fateful night, Itachi slew the Uchiha Clan, sparing only Sasuke, saying that he was not even worth killing. In addition, Itachi told him, "You've always wanted to surpass me. That's why I'm going to let you live… if you wish to kill me, then hate me, despise me… and by all means flee, cling to your wretched life." He told him that "to awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan," he "had to kill the person he was closest to", and that "when we battle, we should have the same eyes".

Name: Great Fireball Technique

Effect:A technique where chakra kneaded inside the body is converted into fire and expelled from the mouth either as a massive orb of roaring flame or as a continuous flame-thrower. The scope of the attack is altered by controlling the volume of chakra that is mustered. The released flames will engulf their target, and leave a crater on the ground's surface. This technique apparently requires more than average chakra reserves and most genin should not be able to do this technique.

Sasuke struggled to keep his face neutral as his knees and back muscles groaned in protest at the awkward position. He had been seated in meditation for some time now, waiting for his sponsors to summon him to their audience chambers. Homura Mitokado and Koharu Utatane were not known for their kindness despite their advanced age. Sasuke suspected that such age had simply made them bitter. Tragedy had a way of hardening the heart as he was well aware. His eyes remained straight forward even as numerous candles flickered along the walls. It gave an ominous gloom to the lightly darkened room.

His mind wondered as to the reason for his summons. Since the...massacre of his clan five years ago, he had only spoken with the two elders a few times. Mostly updates on the status of his Clan's financial holdings. The first meeting had left him bewildered...a young child with the barest knowledge of mercantile dealings and backroom politics. The second time had been different. He would not allow a lack of knowledge to prevent him from restoring his clan's fortunes. The Uchiha Clan was more than merely flesh and blood. It was money...and influence. His father's journals, dull as they were, were a gift sent from Kami when it came to the managing of the Uchiha wealth.

Now, here he waited for what would be one of his last meetings with his sponsors. Today he had graduated as rookie of the year from his Academy class. The smallest sneer passed beneath his placid face at the thought of his fellow students. Certainly there were some with potential, but the majority were mindless psychophants. He hoped that his future team would be at least tolerable. The young boy sighed. In the end it wouldn't matter. If he had his way, he would be Chuunin within the year and applying for ANBU.

His musings were cut short by the opening of a door. Onyx eyes observed the cloaked ANBU that had appeared. With a silent gesture, the ANBU motioned for Sasuke to rise and follow. The young Uchiha rose gracefully from the floor and nodded as he walked forward. Today was the start of something new. He would not waste this chance.


CHARACTER DIRECTION (2-4 Paragraphs)

My goal for this version of Sasuke is to have him more attached to the Uchiha Clan as a more political scion than simply desiring to kill Itachi. His primary focus is restoring his clan as opposed to killing his brother, though that is a major factor. I hope to develop him as a political creature and somewhat similar to Danzou in the subtlety of his methods. He will not be as opposed to romantic relationships, knowing the need for such things later in life. That said, any romantic relationship will be hard fought and almost cold unless the girl is able to break through his professional shell.

As a shinobi, I hope to develop Sasuke as more of a Tobirama styled fighter. More focused on the esoteric shinobi arts as opposed to devastating ninjutsu as in the manga. Though those will probably come with age. I hope to make him less reliant on the sharingan and am leaning towards not giving him the Mangekyou entirely, though it once again depends on how things progress on the Itachi factor.

He does indeed have a lot of jutsu. Considering such, you are free to just link his wiki page on that section. I'll hold you to scouts honor that you are at least somewhat familiar with them all. And yes, the Academy Jutsu is assumed. The jutsu portion is only for techniques beyond Academy style. C-Rank or higher.

Edit: Quick note, If Kakashi is accepted I will get with you before the Roleplay to discuss more specifics for the different storylines I have in mind. Canon is going to be an extremely loose framework.

History: Hinata is the elder daughter of the Hyūga clan head, Hiashi, and as the first-born, was the heiress-apparent to the clan's main house. From the beginning, because of her position as heiress, Hiashi had high expectations for Hinata and subjected her to long arduous hours of grueling training, leaving little time for Hinata to have any joys, such as playing with her younger sister Hanabi. After the end of another conflict between Kumogakure and Konohagakure, one night, Hinata was kidnapped by a head ninja from Kumogakure, who under the guise of striking a peace treaty with Konoha, had actually been sent there to steal the Byakugan. Her father killed the would-be kidnapper to save her, but Kumo demanded compensation in the form of Hiashi's dead body due to having signed a peace treaty with the village only moments before. This ultimately resulted in the death of Hinata's uncle, Hizashi, who sacrificed himself in order to protect his clan and village. This incident was particularly significant in shaping Hinata's early relationship with her cousin, Neji.

After Hinata gained a brutal beating from sparring Neji, both Hinata's father and grandfather began doubting her potential, especially when Hanabi's own prowess began rivaling Hinata's, despite being five years younger. Ultimately, it was decided Hinata and Hanabi would duel to decide the future heir of their clan. While the two sisters began fighting on par with each other, Hinata soon had an opening to win, but hesitated in not wanting to hurt her sister, to which Hanabi quickly counterattacked and won the duel. As a result, her frailty disheartened her father, which made Hinata lose her position to Hanabi. As her father chose to focus and develop Hanabi, Hinata was deemed a lost cause due to her lack of drive.

Hinata's strained relationship with her father caused her to lose more faith in herself and she would often spend her time alone, crying. It wasn't until she met Naruto that her perception changed drastically. Because Naruto was treated as an outcast by almost everyone in the village, Hinata found herself able to relate with his desire to be acknowledged and praised. She was amazed that despite Naruto having nothing and no one to rely on, he never gave up in believing he could become something great like Hokage.

History: They are considered to be one of, if not currently, the most powerful clan in Konohagakure. Their notoriety and prowess stretches far and wide, leading others to both praise and covet their abilities. During the Fourth Shinobi World War, a Kumo-nin noted that they had a hard time against them during a previous war.

The clan is separated into two parts, the Main House and the Branch House, a system that protects the secrets of the Byakugan from outsiders. The Main House runs the family while the Branch House protects it. The members of the Branch House are branded with a cursed seal upon the third birthday of the heir to the Main House. This seal gives the Main House members absolute control over the branch members, because they can destroy the branch members' brain cells with a simple hand seal, or cause them great pain to punish them. This seal also makes sure the secret of the Hyūga's Byakugan is safe, because it seals the Byakugan after the wearer of the seal dies.

Because they are essentially servants, simply because of their birth order or heritage, some Branch House members are hostile to those of the Main House.
In the past, there have been several attempts on the part of Kumogakure to acquire the dōjutsu of this clan.

Effect: The Gentle Fist is a form of hand-to-hand combat used by members of the Hyūga clan. It inflicts internal damage through attacking the body's Chakra Pathway System, subsequently injuring organs which are closely intertwined with the area of the network which has been struck. To do this, the user surgically injects a certain amount of their own chakra into the opponent's chakra pathway system, causing damage to surrounding organs due to their proximity to the chakra circulatory system. Even the slightest tap can cause severe internal damage, hence the name "gentle" fist.

Targeting the tenketsu can enhance the havoc and control a Gentle Fist practitioner can impose upon an opponent's chakra network. These special nodes, 361 in total, are key gatekeeping interceptions in the chakra circulatory network, thus forcibly opening or sealing them in whatever manner the Gentle Fist user sees fit is a powerful tactical option to have. The user's chakra can either increase chakra flow in the opponent's body, or disrupt it completely, preventing them from using techniques

Hinata always had the potential to be much greater than the author allowed her to be, but her drive vanished after Part 1 of the series, her character deteriorated in favor of making the main character, Naruto, look incredible. She had become mere fodder used to make the audience find her cute, when in reality the drive she had to beat her father’s opinion of her was what really stuck out to people, namely myself. Because Hinata had the background and the desire to change what her cousin deemed as ‘fate’, I rooted for the author to make her into an admirable female character within the story. This didn’t happen. Hinata was nothing more than a breeding device and I will forever dislike the author for this.

I want Hinata to become a strong figure for the Hyuga Clan and put more focus into developing her as a human being, rather than the main characters support. She will still admire Naruto and he will remain one of the reasons she has kept going, but he will not be the center of her world. She won’t follow him around like a creep after a certain age, and looking him in the eye while making conversation will not be so much trouble for her. She will be more outspoken as time passes, and show extra care and concern with how things are done within her own clan. She will desire her father’s favor, and want to reclaim her position as future head of the clan, allowing her to completely revoke future Branch Members from having the curse seal and preventing the fate of Neji’s father from ever happening again.

No more cowardice, shyness will gradually go away, and she’ll be more than a cheerleader. I want Hinata to be able to make friends and care about someone other than Naruto, and give more of a damn about her family.

History: Kakashi is the son of Sakumo Hatake, a genius renowned as "Konoha's White Fang". Little is known of his mother other than that she died at a young age.

Sakumo fell into disgrace after choosing to save his comrades rather than complete an important mission, which caused the nation and the village to suffer a great loss. Dishonored, Sakumo took his own life after suffering a deep depression and drop in his skills; this experience made Kakashi determined to lead his life strictly by the ninja code. Hailed as a prodigy and the best of his generation, Kakashi quickly became very popular among his peers and at age 5 he graduated from the Academy early in a single year at the top of his class, even earning the Konoha Forehead Protector after successfully performing the clone technique. He then joined a team alongside Obito Uchiha and Rin Nohara under Minato Namikaze's command.

Soon after becoming a jōnin, Kakashi was assigned to lead his team-mates Obito and Rin on a mission that would benefit Konoha in the ongoing Third Shinobi World War. They were to destroy Kannabi Bridge, which was being used by Iwagakure forces to move into Kusagakure. This would also be Konoha's first huge offensive move in the war. On their way to the bridge, Rin was kidnapped by two Iwagakure ninja named Kakkō and Taiseki. Obito immediately suggested that they rescue her, but Kakashi disagreed on the basis that they needed to complete their mission, opting not to make the same mistake his father did in his mission.

Obito would not hear of it and stubbornly left to save Rin, but not before mentioning that he believed Kakashi's father, the White Fang, was a true hero. Shortly after parting ways, Kakashi reflected on Obito's words and Rin's prior kindness. He realized that his father was not wrong after all, which prompted him to join Obito in the rescue effort. Kakashi arrived in time to save Obito from Taiseki, using his father's blade to combat him. Despite the two-to-one disadvantage, the more experienced Taiseki was able to attack and injure Kakashi, who took the blow that was intended for Obito, giving him a permanent scar while also ruining Kakashi's left eye to such an extent that Kakashi was left with only one good eye for the duration of the mission.

Obito's will to protect his comrades caused his Sharingan to awaken which in turn helped kill Taiseki. After finding Rin and defeating Kakkō with Obito's help, Kakashi freed Rin from the genjutsu before their opponent attempted to trap them in a cave-in. While trying to escape, Kakashi was hit by a rock, which he didn't notice because of his bandaged eye, causing him to fall. Obito pushed Kakashi out of the path of a huge falling boulder, getting himself crushed instead. This resulted in the right side of Obito's body being crushed beyond repair.

Knowing he was dying, Obito requested his Sharingan be a belated present to Kakashi and instructed Rin to implant his left Sharingan into Kakashi's lost eye. Rin complied, and as soon as the surgery was completed Kakashi used his new Sharingan to perfect his Chidori and kill Kakkō. He then returned to Obito to see if there was anything he could do for him, but alongside Rin was forced to leave him. With the help of Minato, they ultimately completed their mission, allowing them to mourn Obito's apparent death.

Kakashi in canon was not a very disagreeable character, so I cannot go on a rant about how poorly they were utilized. The most I can really say is that I want Kakashi to be more outgoing with his students and help shape them into capable shinobi and great people. Most importantly, he will encourage teamwork and strong communication between them, to avoid the friction he had with Team Minato growing up.I don't really know if I'll let him keep his Mangekyo Sharingan for later, but I'm not opposed to the idea. Sorry, but the world is barely ready to handle my Kakashi; FemKakashi would warp the fabric of reality and tear holes in it, much like Kamui in a sense.

I'm all for making this a one-team thing, smaller group rp's are easier anyway.

I swear this CS will come, I swear. First day of getting back to the old grind and figuring out just HOW far that building is from how I remembered it in my head. (note: Don't give myself five minutes to get from the library to the music hall, no give myself 15 because it's so fucking far away that it should have its own zip code) So once I get used to monitoring time and energy, I WILL put a CS down by right now I'm making ridiculous typos and it's only 7 PM.
